The winglets produce 3kg of downforce at 260kph, which is good because I thought it was just for style, but those 3kgs are enormous, that's like filling up your tank a smidgen before riding
If you want to get more of a sportbike feel from the Gen 1 and 2 1290 SDR get the geometry better sorted, install an adjustable length rear shock and add 8 to 10mm of length to get better swinging arm angle it's much too flat stock, bike will finish corners along with a massive improvement in rear grip on corner exit. Also purchase some KTECH 25 mm cartridges so you have preload adjustment and slide the fork tubes up through the triple clamps 3mm.... whole new animal on the track, feels like a sportbike, rode the bike at the track stock and after suspension/geometry upgrades and there is no comparison, no more floaty front end bike its planted much better feel. gel.
Good luck with that... KTM don't care one bit about your issues once you've bought the bike. I went through hell with my 890R last year, there was no way of contacting KTM directly and InMoto in Croydon (the dealer I bought the bike from) were really bad. The bike would leave with more issues than it had before I dropped it off. I loved the bike but had to sell it before the warranty ran out as it wasn't worth the risk :(
Lol... wouldn't that be nice. I really love my KTM but having to fight to get them to fix manufacturing or design defects is pretty standard (and annoying).
Missed the most important part, Chris telling us all that anyone over 25 is shite on a superbike 😂 The headlight suits the bike I think. I'll have one in orange please. With a loud bastard exhaust. Is this one of the most powerful mass produced v-twins ever made?
Looks good. I've been stuck on V-Twins for the sound, torque and power delivery, since I bought a '97 TL1000S, and this is the last open class V-Twin still in development. Might even be, "the last of the V-Twin hypernakeds". I'm still on the 2018 model, but the big bore, shift cam and (evo) active suspension might be enough to convince me to upgrade once they've been in the wild long enough to gauge reliability and sort any issues.
Who's going to make an actual high performance parallel twin 270° crank? Like 1200cc+ high power parallel? Packaging would be super easy. Only issue would be quelling vibrations. And by the way, the Vtwin KTM bikes and the parallel twin KTM bikes fire with the exact same intervals, 435°-285°-435°-285°.
I really like the new bits around the radiator, I think that's the one thing I'd transplant on my '23 if I could. I haven't had any relability issues (albeit it's only been 2000 miles over a few months), but trying KTM's first attempt at variable valve timing would make me *slightly* nervous.
I’ve always wanted a KTM but I actually ride my bike, a lot, so went with a FZ1 second generation… about to hit 100,000 miles and still a reliable missile.
@@BikingVikingHH Yeah, time will tell! Since switching to work from home I don't put nearly as many miles on, but there's nothing mechanically about the LC8 that makes me think it couldn't go 100k+. I'm sure all the electronic suspension bits will explode by then, but I have a feeling that's true across all brands at this point.
The electronics are the biggest problems on ktm nowadays. Even if it has taken them forever they are mechanically sound. I’m part of a ktm club where i live, almost everyday during summertime someone has issues with keyless startup, electronic suspension, mtc failures etc etc.
2000 miles is literally nothing, that's not even 1 service if you exclude the break in service. Do people actually expect to have issues at this low mileage? Like if you said I did 40 000 miles and had no issues then I would say that's awesome.
You are on to something about the 190hp bikes vs the 140hp ones. The 140 ones can be as exciting. With the electronics now, the bikes are more refined but not as exciting and at premium cost not to mention insurance. There are many little things like this that the smaller bikes will never be able to give you. Sure they are equally as fun around the same twisty road, but the bigger bikes are more fun in more places, small bikes are catered toward a very singular area, same as how a small dirt bike is very fun off road, but crap elsewhere, imo a big 1290 SAR is just as fun off road, if somewhat less capable (although nowadays that gap is closing) but then the 1290 can do everything else aswell..

The year is 2080 and we finally have a KTM V4? As an owner of a KTM, all I can say is that the 1290 is the most beautiful bike ever made by the folks from Mattighofen ! 💪🧡
All V4 engine drink gas like an old carbureted Chevy V8. Same with the crossplane R1 engine. They just don't work efficiently with crankcase pumping losses. Vtwin engines are much more efficient for the power made.

At least you can ECU flash Japanese bikes. KTM runs ECU's that make such very problematic. Good luck removing factory restrictions, good luck paying the KTM-electronic-package tax to make it all useable. Good luck making use of that extra torque and power above the 1290. It's all an exercise in diminishing returns at this point. You want crazy power? ZH2, exhaust, ECU flash and voila... 227 horsepower 100 ft-lb torque Naked bike.
I’ll be keeping my old 990 Superduke R, thumping engine & zero electrical issues. Modern KTM’s only make sense if you’re taking it out on PCP & know you’re definitely handing it back after the 3 years. It’s a shame really why bike manufacturers just build rubbish that falls apart after a couple of years now. Scrap all the electronics on bikes & concentrate on building better machines.
Id like to buy one but i don’t like the sitting position, it’s very forward and high with no bike in front of you. That’s probably great for performance being so over the front wheel but i prefer the Tuono just to have a little bit more bike in front of me. The Super Duke rides great though. (Maybe if it had a bit of a bigger light unit and cluster and screen?)
I'm glad I didn't wait for this update and brought my new gen 3, four months ago for a little over 13k with it fully kitted and a four year guarantee. For the little hike in performance this new gen offers. It's not like the gen 3 is short on performance, it's certainly got more than I need having never taken it on the track. I think the looks will grow on people though and I'm not against the new headlights. It not worth an extra £5k in my opinion.

Owner experience seems to be a challenge for KTM. Great performance and innovation but I would like to see a commitment to quality assurance and post purchase service.
Not sure why many of independent RUclipsrs are seemingly downing KTM for adding like 8 hp to bring it up to 188 hp, when every other manufacturer makes bikes that are 200+ hp, including many other nakeds? I can’t wait for this bike! I’m trading my gixer 1000 that has 200hp in for the superduke 1390. I like the v twin better for the street, and a more comfortable riding position.
People will get used to the headlights, like they do every time someone releases a polarising design. That said, it doesn't seem like there is all that much too get excited about. The engine changes sound like they are mostly emissions focused. The chassis changes are vague enough that they are probably going to be imperceptible to the average rider. More range, really? Is that what the riders or you hooligan bike have been asking for? Anyway, I cant complain. Ultimately I get exactly what I want from this release which is cheaper 1290's without feeling like I missed out on a whole bunch of stuff. Thanks for the video lads.

People asking KTM for a V4 engine are totally missing the point - very frustrating - what don’t you understand about the joy of having a big v twin with a ton of low end grunt on the road!! Nobody needs a V4 on UK roads - you will never ever use it. I also prefer the non-electronic suspension option - if you know what you are doing with geometry and suspension configuration you can much more easily fine tune the bike to your own weight and riding style. Plus no electronic suspension electrical faults! Looking forward to trying this new 1350 - mostly to see what the shiftcam does for the engine.
Yep you’ll never use it. Like 99% of the power and config most vehicles deliver. You must be a barrel of laughs. Where tf did all this ‘you don’t need it’ bollocks come from? We have it because we can and it’s fun..
My 2005 SuperDuke 990 has (for me) enough performance for the road, 116 rwhp, and no electronic aids, just my experience Looks brand new ever after all these years and zero reliability issues
I like SDR, rode 2022 model many a time, imho the most exciting bike. BUT, given the quality control problems that are mentioned everywhere (MCN long term review - the reviewer said he would not buy one himself, for instance), I think I skip buying one, even though I am so tempted, and just stick with my 1050RS.
Drag bikes lower the front for a better launch. Lowering the rear will only make it more prone to wheelie off the line. Sounds like they are trying to put a more fun spin on it but really it’s purpose is for short people.
Ktm design always reminds me of the situation when you I step into a bar in the winter and take off my foggy glasses for a minute -all of the sudden everyone is beautiful! Same story with their concept and reality. One amazing, one ugly. Ps. Good luck cleaning that veg from bugs after summer ride. 😂

Like him no regreats this new bike looks great and I think Is for someone who want and upgrade from the 890r and the 990r isn’t enough . I knew this offer of £3k discount and 4 years warranty was because a new bike was comming out but I really loved the ride and look of the 1290 and now I have a fully loaded one and provably will keep it for some years to come.
Agree. Got new a ‘23 SDR Evo here in Texas late October for $18,200. Factory offering heavy rebates that month, likely due to slowing sales
@@salsadurauk I paid £13;350 with tech pack included. I also knew a new model was coming. However, I knew it would be £4/5k more expensive and only have a 2year guarantee. Would I like the new version? Yes, but it’s too expensive at this time. I will keep my gen 3 for 3/4 years until the price on the gen 4 is as heavily discounted. That’s what KTM do
@@Steve-motorcycles bro we have now engine that is great and is been out there for sometime been refine and has good reputation and 4 years warranty and diccount price . For the upgrade of some BHP I don’t think we will miss a lot . The 1290 is amazing machine and I think will be worth upgrade when KTM produce a V4 engine and I really think that’s going to be the next 1290 r in couple of years . The 1390 twin engine is probably the last production of that type . For now enjoy your bike …. I will 😀
There's a problem with the video near the end, lads. Freezes for a while
I thought it was just me!
Will it be reliable?.
Great if it's reliable???
Owner experience seems to be a challenge for KTM. Great performance and innovation but I would like to see a commitment to quality assurance and post purchase service.
Love the graphic of the bikes on the desk 💪
From 14:49 to 16:00 I think there is an edit mistake (the screen freezes)? 😢 Only for me?
Not sure why many of independent RUclipsrs are seemingly downing KTM for adding like 8 hp to bring it up to 188 hp, when every other manufacturer makes bikes that are 200+ hp, including many other nakeds? I can’t wait for this bike! I’m trading my gixer 1000 that has 200hp in for the superduke 1390. I like the v twin better for the street, and a more comfortable riding position.
This video is knackered from like 14:50 to 16 mins.
Jeez that thing seems like a fun ride.
That giant pipe work looks like something a Super Duke would need.
Prefer this headlamp. Looks like a predator alien 👾 I can imagine this is what theyd drive on their homeworld 😅
In black of course.
Ooh a hot nugget from the purveyors of "THE NEWS" would love to have a good probing of this "alien like" machine!
The bike I'm most excited about for this year. YES PLEASE!
top speed ?
Woof! if ever there was a face for radio. Everything else is cool though.
Poor Al. How do you think he feels about that ... ??!
I've just finished putting heating in the garage today to keep my lovely gen 1 1290 Super Duke R nice and warm during this cold snap. My missus said I can f@ck off and sleep in the garage with it......!!!!!.👍👍👍👍👍
Does it come in black?
I'm still rocking the original superduke 😂 still a lairy wheelie machine, it's the most fun bike I have ever owned and perfect for where I live in the Peak District
The cutout of the bike on the table during commentary was the best idea ever.
Love your NIGE hoodie 😄
Does this mean in wheelie setting "very high" I can let the clutch slip and the bike will hold the very high lean angle endless?
Would love to try an evo version on the road, but might feel the need to cover that headlight! 😂
Having owned a Gen3 Super DUke R and riden an EVO, the extra money for the suspension is worth it. THis bike is a Monster that I really, really want to own! I have Never Riden a KTM and not have a smile on my face (they can be exhausting bikes to ride, but they are a whole lot of fun, unless you'e somewhat inexperience and the bike will try and succeed in killing you). I've had several KTMs of different displacement (620 Duke (the old supermoto), 690 Enduro R, 390 Adventure, 890 Duke R, and 1290 SUper DUke R, and they are all fun!).
I do want this bike!
Great looking machine ,very aggressive, but might have to settle for a vespa 300
Prob cost you about $100 less for the Vespa…
@@Showmetheevidence-ktm $ 33,000 nz Vespa 300gt $ 10,000 nz
Video freezes from 13:50 - 16:00. Chris looks like he's being rogerd. Great content otherwise as usual thanks lads.
New headlight looks like sleeve of wizard. Nasty looking thing.
The tyres reduce the unsprung weight of the wheels by 1.2 KGs - changing from Bridgestone S22's (old 1290 model) to Michellin Power GP's - nice...
Love the graphic overlay 💪🏻👍🏻
I currently own a 1290R Gen3. And the more I see this 1390R... I'm like....MEH... 😮💨 that new headlight I UGLY AF. The rear light is just gone. And the specs...hmmm... for that little more that I have now.
Gen 3 SDR 1290 in blue and orange is a thing of beauty.
This is exactly why I won't be changing my 2016 1290 SDR. It's the minimal electronic mental beast!
When, you don't know why you like it, but you like it. That's your bike. I love this ktm...!!! ❤❤❤
Not sure if it’s just mine but the video freezes around 15 mins lads, might want to check it. Have been forwards and backwards a few times and it just freezes for about 40 seconds
Yeah. This big bore twin is what makes this platform so special. If I wanted a v4 track bike I'll go with Duc or Aprilia.
I've got the latest 1290 super duke and I can't imagine anything being more jizzy for the street. This thing will be a beast
I want this bike... I have a 1090 Adventure R, and a 890 Duke R. I think this will be the next bike I buy.
I'm fan of helmet art & the green Arai looks nice
My 2005 SuperDuke 990 has (for me) enough performance for the road, 116 rwhp, and no electronic aids, just my experience
Looks brand new ever after all these years and zero reliability issues
The beast deadset like a transformer with that head light
For the love of all that is good, put that Diavel V4 trackday video up!
*Error with the upload at **14:48**? Is it freezing for anybody else?*
Yep, gets going again at 16:00. Has no one else watched it that far?
Anyone having issues with playback at the 15 min mark? Seems to pause.
I applaud KTM for holeshot device. Awesome. Wish it would lock out the front too -LOL. Ride height button is next I reckon.
I like SDR, rode 2022 model many a time, imho the most exciting bike. BUT, given the quality control problems that are mentioned everywhere (MCN long term review - the reviewer said he would not buy one himself, for instance), I think I skip buying one, even though I am so tempted, and just stick with my 1050RS.
images from the ktm pics has the orange bike with black wheels and the system, i think that loks the best of the three shown.
Drag bikes lower the front for a better launch. Lowering the rear will only make it more prone to wheelie off the line. Sounds like they are trying to put a more fun spin on it but really it’s purpose is for short people.
So wrong
Clever touches with the bike superimposed in front of you.
Does the video freeze around 14:50 mark for anyone else or is it just me?🤔
Yes. Chris upset the track day Gods of those wannabes over 25.
“Robotic partners” 😂😂😂
Can you actually buy KTMs, are they reliable enough to own?
wild and in a game of its own
They've got budget, they've got knowhow what they don't have is elegance, charme and delicacy 😂
Gen 1 too upright and soft suspension🔥✊gen 3 with full akro faster and more sporty🔥
The tires are 1,2 kilos lighter. Not the rims.
And Overall reliability of the bike has been improved.
Head lights setup is very smart in my opinion
Ktm design always reminds me of the situation when you I step into a bar in the winter and take off my foggy glasses for a minute -all of the sudden everyone is beautiful! Same story with their concept and reality. One amazing, one ugly. Ps. Good luck cleaning that veg from bugs after summer ride. 😂
KTM: sportsbikes don't belong on the road
also KTM: heres an automatic holeshot device on our 190hp naked bike
I bloody love the new headlights. I don’t know what people are on about. I guarantee tho they will hop on the trend wagon when they see more it on TikTok or some shit lol
It looks like your neighbors smashed your 1290 headlight.
Anyone else having a long awkward pause in the video from 15:10 to 16:00 where Al is just bored and Chris is sleeping?
Had a gen 1 SD but the MT10 I had afterwards was honestly better
I had the gen3 and my mt10 was better.
KTM is low key developing a V4 with CF Moto
Your video continually freezes at 14:53. Maybe you upset the wannabe track day Gods for over 25s?
the "blue" with orange and black applications like RC390 - make this brand
ktm collabing with aliens now😂
Yeah.. I think I’ll stick with my gen 3 1290 Evo. That headlight looks like gash. And I can’t see me feeling the extra few cc’s.
It’s all about the beauty on the inside!
I totally see the lady flower thing, not a bad shout
