    I found I didn't improve much even over years until I started pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and doing studies that were practicing a specific thing. For example when doing a study I might be just focusing on blocking in values. When I started doing stuff like that I saw noticeable improvements over months more so than I used to see in a year. If you're feeling frustrated sometimes you just need to narrow down what you're practicing instead of everything at once.

    the way that artists can improve so quickly is insane...it’s a bit scary to be honest. I actually did this. I got from drawing literal stick figures to creating comic pages and book illustrations in less than a year. I was so convinced I could never learn to draw that I had never tried. When I finally decided try, I drew every day and used a lot of reference. I'm really happy with the progress I made by doing that. In the next year, I want to get better at drawing backgrounds and clothes. Among several other things. All that to say I encourage anyone who thinks they can't draw to give it a year. You can do it!

    I think a big part of drawing and improving is not only being good and drawing realistic, but putting your mark on a piece. Everyone likes to see a good drawing with perfect anatomy and stuff and that´s a really solid base, but everyone likes it even more if you see stylization because diversity is what expresses us and our work. Especially on Sam´s art you can really tell that it´s his because there´s so much expression and stylization.
    Just wanted to put my thoughts down here, have a nice day :)

    Looking back on years before really does help. I am always very very critical of my art. I feel like I've been drawing for years and still need references and can't do much but recently I found an old flash drive from ten years ago and the drawings on it were done with reference and were lacking so much. But my drawings today that I do I was able to see much more confidence in working without references.
    What helped my art a lot was to stop feeling like I should be guilty about using reference. By studying the references hard while I draw instead of just copying what I saw was the biggest help.
    In the ten years I simply became a student of life. I looked at people, how they sat, how they moved, how their muscles moved. Looked at my own body, looked at nature and the colors etc. All of this I believe have contributed a lot.
    Hands used to be so hard for me too and I would do all I can to hide them in a drawing but now I'm drawing them and like them!

    Coloring tip!
    What helps me
    1. Make a drawing where the colors interact like if the character has red hair and the background is blue, tale a little bit of the blue and paint over the characters with it
    2. Make gradients. Like the hair looks brown but the top part is a bit yellow, the bottom of the hair is more blue (shadow). The yellow and blue should be about 50 percent opacity though.
    3. Don't use a lot of colors!! Not the whole color wheel! (digital) . Like maybe choose blue and orange, take a lot of orange shades and a lot of blue shades and work with those.

    this inspires me so much. I have been super in to drawing lately, but I want to try digital art but it’s just so much harder than just sketching or something like that. I’m gonna try my hardest to become a very good artist and I’ll come back to this comment next year and I’ll see how far i’ve come by then :)

    i was so blown away and surprised by the improvement and was wondering how they managed to improve so much over just a year or two. but then I realised that *holy shit I did the exact same thing*. you forget how much you've improved yourself until you look back at your old pieces!

    i just looked at a drawing from last year and my least bad drawing from this year and put them beside each other and uh- i never realized how much ive improved throughout the year- its actually crazy- i had no idea how placing parts of the face worked so the nose was literally in the middle of both eyes, the hair was absolutely horrendous and had a very tiny neck- the shading was also pretty sad- now, the face has better placed parts, the body is so much more realistic than basically a rectangle, i experienced with many more outfits than a hoodie in every drawing and the hair flows a lot better than before- im so glad i decided to take a look because this has mad inspired me to keep pushing and learning, and to go out of my comfort zone like i did when i tried new clothing and better proportions

    • @yeetusdeletus2501
      @yeetusdeletus2501 2 года назад

      of course, i still have a lot of improvement to do if id like to be a good artist, and i still dont see majority of my drawings as all that great, but i am pretty happy with my improvement so far, and hope to keep improving and pushing further in art

      study the fundamental structures. there is this class here on RUclips that I really like, I'll copy the link for you.
      edit: ruclips.net/video/gpH8T2CRlLI/видео.html i know, this can look hard in the beggining. but, if you think this tutorial, you can search for "drawing fundamentals" here on ytb.

    • @mayslilcorner
      @mayslilcorner 2 года назад +9

      It depends on what you ultimately want to be able to draw. But you should start with the fundamentals: proportions and accuracy , good lines, values, colours,perspective etc because you can’t draw anything without them.
      So start by learning simple stuff like perspective and lighting on primitive objects and then you can work your way up to faces/figures.

    That’s from genshin impact, the artist might’ve traced parts of the art (the background and stuff) from a story part of the game. I’m not sure though.

    I like the "draw this again" meme a little more than comparing different pieces from different years, since it shows that you inherently have a better understanding of how to draw something (a pose, environment, etc.) than you did before, and it shows that understanding.
    Still, I definitely agree, don't compare your progress with other people's progress. I think it's just as important as saying not to compare your art with other people's art. Everyone goes at their own pace, and everyone learns differently. As long as you are better than your previous self, no matter how big or small, that's all that matters.

    Guys please don't stress out, because not everyone has the luxury to study, some are even in art school but they didn't even mention it out
    And people will mistake that part time studying can reach that when they have to work normal jobs while some art students have guidance to drawing in art college
