YES. Finally someone destroying the “art style” myth 🤣👏 It’s one of those things that I’ve never cared about but I’ve seen just *flatten* budding artists. Especially when they’re just starting out on social media and seeing *everyone else* freaking out about it too. I wish more advanced artists put the chill on “finding your art style”. Thank you!
4:58 before destroying ergojosh's art carrier 13:35 after destroying ergojosh's art carrier Sam, I really love your creative artstyle and especially the lighting, but what really separates your art from others I follow is that your art can look amazing in just 1.5 hours. It's also really calming:D. I learn a lot about subsurface scattering and bounce light just from your works.
I'm so in love with Sam's art style like wow i can stare at one piece for hours and not get tired of it. This was a very good video to watch! I dropped everything I was doing when i saw the notif lol thank you for this!!
You could reveal every single secret about your art and still nobody would be able to copy, what makes every artist unique is their inner sense and yours is trully unique and beautiful Much appreciation for this video!!
Your style amazes me every single time - the colors and the stylization is simply unmatched. Seeing how you improve the picture and sharing your techniques is an awesome opportunity. Thank you so much for sharing.
As a young artist, Sam has continued to inspire me and my art for the better. It is really incredible how he explains his thought process and emphasis on shadows and light sources. Thank you so much sam!😊
I do my character first then the background. I always do the final lighting first and then I can get a better idea how the character affects the lighting too, like their shadow or if they are reflecting any light or have fire powers. But my style is a lot less paint-y then yours so of course that makes a huge difference on my process.
That's such a helpful paintover. Seriously many of us have no clue how to take our paintings further, and just seeing your thought process really helps.
To me your art style is soothing...I'm not an artist, just and admirer. Your pieces and characters give off a peaceful, not a care in the world, everything is going to be alright feeling and vibe. Like listening to your favorite song to relax, that's what I feel when I view your creations.
I think one of the most helpful things about your videos is that you make it clear how much you just... do your own thing so your art will look the way you want. I'm at a stage where I can't really get any more help from youtube videos and it's my mindset that's blocking my progression the most. Leaving sketch lines in, for example - in art school I wanted to do that but was constantly told that even my polished artwork was "rough" and that it had potential for when it was "fully rendered." Now I feel like I can't make art unless every square pixel is over-polished, so I don't do it at all. Recently, I posted an unfinished practice on my art blog and was shocked at how many people thought it was a full piece. Made me rethink some things. So the freedom you allow yourself is helping me. Thank you :>
There is so much cleverness in what Sam paints. It is not only the level of style, light and the choice of colors. His digital art tells a specific story about each and every character. One can really feel what is their mood and almost what they are thinking. Somehow, this translates to us and we feel the same emotion, which is what makes it so vibrant.

Good call out on the backgrounds. It's one of the things I enjoy about your work. For my part, I never know what to do for my backgrounds. My references are often on a stage on against a plain backdrop, which makes it easy to put off thinking about the background until I'm way too far along with painting the subject. By then, it's too late and my backgrounds just wind up looking a little flat. *sigh* so many things to work on :)

Excellent explanation about taking care of body proportions, composition and the secret of playing with the contrast between light and shadow without exaggerating with color saturation. What I would need most in my case is to see how you calibrate, according to your style, the brushes you use, in their different parameters of opacity, flow and mainly how to achieve your textured finishes to paint landscapes, clothing and skin.
