Thought your descriptions of "The Train" sounded familiar to me, and I looked it up and sure enough she used the story as the start of her first novel Wise Blood (one of my all time favorites). Hazel is the main character in that novel. It appears all the stories you mentioned were part of her master thesis, so you are on to something by drawing those connections.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for your comment. Planning on reading her novels after I finish with the short stories

Haha I always thought Flannery O'Connor was a man and you thought F. Scott was a woman. Authors are fun. Enjoyed this haul vlog a buttload! Wanna hear about my recent haul? I'm gonna tell you so you have no choice: I bought The Rules Of CIvility by Amor Towles (a man, I think), I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron (definitely a woman), a critical overview of Tennyson's poetry (that's my favourite poet - a man), and A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu by Proust (a man!) - and that's the one I've started reading (six volumes God help me!). Also love that you have a newsletter. Subscribing. Sorry for talking your ear off. It's 5 AM in London and I can't sleep (because of Proust). Bye!!!

An interesting mix of classic and contemporary. You should make a video about it! Are you reading Proust in the original French?

It falls off from time to time, but somehow it always grows back
