Macbeth as the ultimate self-help manifestation book is a seller for sure 🤣 Kurt Vonnegut is such a wild ride too. I still have no clue if I like him or I don't. Part of me thinks he's a literary genius. Part of me thinks it's like listening to your drunk uncle ramble on. I think at this point I'll die never knowing what I think of him, And I'm with you on not really enjoying reading smut in book and its the reason I always avoided the Scarlet Letter. For some reason the back of the book synopsis made it sound like it was band for explicit content and I wasn't down for that. Had a quick check and don't think it was banned for that at all so might have to finally get round to reading it.
Dude you inspired me to go value village book hunting. Found some decent titles. Some Aristotle, some cormac McCarthy, Oxford classics Rousseau. Goated content
Let's goooo!
"Le tour du Monde en Quatre-vingt jours" (and here I thought all this time that you were French-Canadian!) OK that O'Connor story is just fantastic!!!
woah! "letters to a young poet" mentioned! slay. im glad you enjoyed it
If you find the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, I can recommend the book to read and review. It is a 1970s classic, and it changed the lives of many baby boomers. It is now in re-release. Life changing read.
I read it 6 years ago! I'm due for a re-read....
you are just so pretty
just noticed the ears... no way the book plug is also a fellow grappler
Yeah man purple belt.... but only no gi
@ ah right on… I’m more of a gi guy, but I won’t hold it against you haha
Maugham - rhyme it with 'warm' - that'll do!
😵💫
I really like your videos <3
Thanks for watching!
great analysis man
I’m currently reading Northanger Abbey as my first Austen! It’s much, much better than I thought it would be :)
I really like diderot! (pronounced without the t at the end since the french language likes to be complicated) he wrote a lot of very varied things that are fascinating to discover. As for Molière I like him a lot less but it's mainly because as a french person I study him almost every year since middle school and to find him again almost every semester at university drives me crazy.
Yeah that's totally fair, I've never read him so idk what to think yet. We'll see!
That candle at the back next to the corkboard is giving me anxiety, and when you said controversial German Fellow I was expecting a completely different book 🤣 I always wonder what the male experience of reading a romance is. Like when you're reading Jane Eyre, is it an emotional experience or is just a cultural one?
The depth of field makes it look really close, but its like 10 inches away 😂 and yeah I don't have a copy of THAT yet. So far I'm half way through Jane Eyre, and the romance has mostly been alluded to but not gotten too heavy yet... but I'll let you know
Oh man I'm kinda jealous of your Flannery O'Connor Collection. Been trying to get my hands on that for ages.
I couldn't find it used, so I just bought it new at Indigo
Wow at those thick Luther volumes! 🖤
Read through Brockton Brown's Edgar Huntly, Or, Memoirs of a Sleepwalker when I stuided American Gothic lit, and it went pretty hard. The one you grabbed sounds sick, though. I'll have to hunt for it.
Nicee
From where do you get these novel recommendations? Your taste is so unique.✨
Thanks! I just look for classics at the thrift store
Immediately clicked seeing Gormenghast in the thumbnail! One of my favourite books ever.
Woolf leaves such a long lasting impact. A room of one’s own is beautiful ^_^
Looking forward to reading it!
some Australian authors to read: - Trent Dalton - Richard Flanagan - Tim Winton - Helen Garner - Miles Franklin - Marcus Clarke
I will take the scent of a used book over a new book any day....what a great book haul! Enjoy!
I love hearing this guy talk lmao
Thanks for watching!
Just discovered your channel, new favorite !!
whats ur camera
Sony ZV E10
@@Literary_Devices yoo thanks
Happy New Year. This video just showed on my feed, great picks. Gormenghast, Frankenstein, Hamlet are all-time favourites of mine and East of Eden is so good too.
Awesome!
i love your videos so much, i really like hearing you talk about books and plot summaries are my fave
Thanks a lot!
You're much too beautiful to be this clever
Great RUclips channel. Hope your numbers grow
Thanks!
Dude I know you read Sun and Steel and didn’t love it, but I highly recommend you read some fiction from him. I’m in the middle of The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea, and it rocks, I promise
I've heard this from other people as well.... maybe I'll try spring snow. Do you have a favorite?
@@Literary_Devicesyou can’t go wrong with the tetralogy, which starts with spring snow. It’s all pretty dark I’d say, but I personally can’t get enough of his storytelling
Although I’d say my favourite has to be the sailor who fell from grace with the sea
don't apologize lol the sniffing is probably the best part of buying old used books. interesting things can happen when you do !
may I know what you do for work
Hit keys and stare at a screen
Fairs fair rocks !!
Dude this channel rocks, so glad you popped up on my feed. Happy to support a fellow Canadian
Wait I think you’re Canadian but I don’t know
@@dylanmccann1924 Thanks bro! Yes I am
Little Women is one I absolutely adored as a little girls. Bittersweet retrospective nostalgia from reading books is not talked about. I get such pangs of sadness sometimes reading 19th century books. Probably not the industrial era English books that talk about the plight of toiling manual labour, but any time I pick up a classical English book about fields and bonnets and metal bathtubs and people getting excited over letters I want to timewarp into the novels era. But then someone dies of Cholera in the text and I reconsider. I think you did Chalamet dirty though 🤣He was always described as a small looking lad. "He turned to look at Paul-a stringy whipcord of a youth, not as desiccated as the Arrakeen natives, but with ribs there to count, and sunken in the flanks so that the ripple and gather of muscles could be followed under the skin"
Old school courting should make a comeback
you have hunter eyes bro
I unfortunately didn't read the book yet, but i watched the movie. It is so beautifully made
Agreed
The thumbnail is hilarious 😂.
Thanks!
I had no idea Shaw's play was against St. Joan of Arc. How interesting!
I love the copy of Mansfield Park you got, gorgeous cover!
Glad Gormenghast was in your top pile.
Very helpful! I'm reading the Brothers K right now, and finding it a bit hard to follow at times. This really makes me understand it better
I'm glad I could help, thanks for watching!
Your reading taste is impeccable. Although as an Englishwoman all I have is pain and anguish associated with Shakespear from having to read it at 12 years old. Steinbeck East of Edens is a masterpiece. Have you read Ubik by Philip K Dick. It felt like reading a movie.
Thanks! Yes, unfortunately many English teachers terrorize their students with Shakespeare and do a bad job teaching him. No, I haven't, but I have a copy! Maybe it'll be the next PKD that I read.....
@@Literary_Devices It definitely should be 🙃😉 It's such a wild ride. I'm not always the biggest fan of his writing style but the story blew me away. May have overhyped it to the point of your disappointment now though haha
Forster’s The Longest Journey is really good as well
Thanks, I'll look for it!
Interesting choice of books
I also hated sun& steel lol. I wonder if it'll be the same with the rest of his work. Less motivated now
I've heard that his fiction is more accessible.... maybe try Spring Snow?
can't believe you gave the bell jar two stars 😮💨
It is so sad!! Maybe I could be convinced to bump it up to 3....
You are so pretty it is difficult to concentrate on the books 😭. And this is coming from someone who teaches literature at a university, so affinity isn't the problem.
