  • In addition to the difficult relations between India and Canada following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations against India, a significant issue for Indian students studying here is the scarcity of employment possibilities.

If your a Canadian citizen how are you going to pack up and leave ? Do you mean your a dual Canadian / Indian citizen? If so pack up and leave. Historically 1/3 of all migrants to Canada eventually return to their birth countries.

Also VAncouver is in British Colombia and education and housing are the responsabilities of the Government of British Colombia not the Governement of CAnada . Same for Toronto , The prime minister Doug Ford is reponsable for the lack of housing , cost of living and universities . The MAyor of Toronto is responsible for housing and make sure the city built affordable housing for students . But Toronto is more interested in rich people from Asia ( China) or inetrantional investors to buy expensive condos for investments and not living in Canada . Not the same in other provinces

Many who expected to pay fees through part-time is still suffering. One of my friend also dropped out from course. Its a bit cherry picking. The prior year enrollments were up over 70% due to backsurge from Covid. So you could also conclude it has just dropped back to normal, but that wouldn't make the needed horror sound bite for RUclips and other social media based news trying to get those view numbers up.
The West is expensive. It is a reality and be very careful in advance of the 'earning potential' of the degree you are getting in advance.
In the US, college loans are guaranteed by the US Govt, so banks will give high interest loans to anyone for college. Colleges picked up on this and now offer very many "fun" degrees to lure those high paying students in. They rack up all the debt as a real degree, and at the end get a bachelors degree in 'beer brewing' or 'language studies' Those aren't useless skills, especially if you enjoy them, but you are not going to get a high paying job with them.
If these students who can't find jobs had gotten their degrees in chemical engineering instead, they would have companies knocking on their door with 60-80k starting jobs and be making upwards of 100k/yr within a year.
Tough choices ahead for the current generation, as AI is just getting started and going to be able to do most jobs better than humans.
Also, since its Indian news, to put the "problem" in perspective. India had fewer than 50,000 total foreign students from all other countries combined, and half of those were from neighbors Nepal, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. High cost of living isn't the main detriment.

It is good for the colleges, because they can charge 3x the tuition, also good for Canadian banks, as students go in debt quickly, Also good for mega corporations, because we will do the dirty work for minimum wages that nobody else would otherwise do. Because of us, companies will seldom raise their wages, but increase their profits. The Canadian government is bringing in mass 3rd world immigration because Canada has a lack of cheap labour, they keep housing costs high so you cannot accumulate savings and leave. It's a scam, you basically work each month and break even, which is slavery if you think about it. Canadians don't mind immigration, especially pretty girls coming over, but it's all Indians, how about some Russians, Germans, Columbians, etc, not very diverse. I think you guys are nuts coming here, it's freezing cold most of the year, the women are fat and hate men, it has a massive real estate bubble, healthcare is a joke they try to kill you off, the food is low quality, taxes are 51% if you figure out how to earn well, and there isn't really anything fun to do, they've closed down almost all the attractions like Ontario place, they are letting the Toronto Zoo die off, you can basically work and go for a walk after work it's boring.

The perception Canadians have of Indian students today has changed. One or two generations ago, Indians who came to Canada were there in post-graduate programs, with scholarships or fellowships in research universities. Today, thousands are in second-rate colleges, paying exorbitant fees, working in fast food and delivery. It is no secret to the Canadian population that they are here as a means to acquire residency and citizenship, while other professionals from other countries wait longer to get their applications processed. Troves of Indian students have also put downward pressure on wages, since they cannot belong to trade unions and often work under the table, avoiding paying taxes. In Quebec, it is a particularly egregious problem, since many of them do not speak French, yet are working in retail businesses, forcing to clients to speak English, where the official language is French. Imagine a Canadian student working in a store in Delhi and not speaking Hindi or any local language. It wouldn't go over well.

I came to Canada in 2009 and am very well settled here. No doubt things are not as easy now and living expenses have skyrocketed but that is true of most other countries as well. Rents in Canada for sure have risen more sharply. This means that international students need to come with more savings and cannot depend on part time jobs to meet all their living expenses. I still see some international students complete their studies and settle down very well in this country despite high living expenses. Where most international students are making mistakes is in program selection. Their primary aim seems to be to just get accepted in a college/university whatever the program may be. They don’t understand that the programs which are easy to get into are so because after graduating they don’t have much job opportunities. Programs which have excellent job opportunities are very competitive and extremely hard to get admission. Do proper research and aim only for programs that have future opportunities. Otherwise don’t come here to just waste time and money.

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become the North Korea of the western world.
Their are many reasons why Canada has fallen apart. But the number one reason is ‘multiculturalism’. My friends, multiculturalism simply does not work. Different cultures do not come together and mix, different cultures come together and clash. The world is divided into different countries for a reason: because people hate each other and only want to be with their own kind. The number two reason for Canada’s demise is ‘socialism’. In this modern era of aging populations, it is mathematically impossible for socialism to continue. The government does not have the money to take care of old people and provide healthcare, pensions and the various other benefits, even with the astronomical taxation that burdens hard working Canucks. Well Canada, you had a good run. Time for Canucks to move to an emerging country. We welcome you here in Southeast Asia.

Job market is fucked up too

@@abheycanada7599 FYI I attended university and I have a degree. I attended a business school and no my program did not require an internship.
Seeking an unpaid internship to complete your program requirements vs seeking a paying job is different. It’s a very competitive environment even for internships. I grew up in Canada and despite the challenges concerning jobs and opportunities, I never complained. Have to adapt and go where you’re needed.

There are two sides to the coin. Although there aren't a lot of opportunities, students come here just to study some nonsensical courses. How will they be employable?

Other options are no better. I live in Canada but have worked in UK, Australia, then moving to US for studies and then after 10 years, 3 years in India and now Canada.
For tech jobs, Canada is still better than Europe and Australia. For tech jobs and higher education, no country in the world even comes close to the United States. Good and high quality work, robust economy, no housing crisis compared to Canada/Australia/Europe and with employment you have access to high quality healthcare.
But for people born in India, due to country quota, it is impossible for Indian students to get employment based green card in their lifetime.
But still indians continue to live in US, even if they can get Canadian or Australian citizenship easily. Its better to live in US for whole life on visa then live in UK/Canada/Australia as their citizsn.
I know many people, especially who studied and worked in US (not indian body shop people) moved to Europe, Canada and Australia and within 5 to 10 years came back to the US.

Not sure what it's like in the regional areas of Canada, but here in Australia most international students want to study in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - all cities with an acute housing crisis and spiralling cost of living. I live in a regional city with it's own share of problems (youth crime mainly) - the Vice-Chancellor simply got on a plane to Dhaka last year and we now have a highly visible Bangladeshi population. Many work in hotels and restaurants - I have no idea what their prospects are after graduation but at the moment anyone with qualifications in health and welfare seems to get a job. The dream of owning a home in one of the big cities is out of reach for most Australians - as it seems to be in Toronto, Quebec and Vancouver - but the initial aim is residency and citizenship. I wish Canadians all the best as we face similar challenges in the 21st century. Edit: forgot to add that this is a tropical city, much closer to what many in East Asia are used to - 'Winter' this year was a cool night in July ;)
