  • A Brampton-based food bank has come under fire after a photo of its whiteboard with a controversial message went viral on social media.
The message, which read "NO International Students" among other instructions, has sparked outrage online.
The incident has led to a heated debate on social media about the requirements for international students to stay in Canada on a temporary visa. While some argue that they should prove their financial ability to afford their studies, others believe that those in need should receive help regardless of their status.
    Global News’s Sean O’Shea reports.

By them posting videos showing how other international students can get 'free food' that means they have no problems scamming and taking from actual needing citizens of this country. I fully agree with this food bank. They had to declare upon entry to Canada that they had the funds or scholarship to financially support themselves through the course of their education here. The goverment made sure to make this mandatory to prevent things like this.

It is about time that signs like this were posted on every food bank door. One of my friends who vaulunteered at a Brantford Ontario food bank decided to stop when she heard that the University was in fact advising their international students to go there for food. Actually the big issue is that families take out large loans over 6 months before applying and therefore it looks like the family has the savings to pay for the child’s education. After they get accepted they pay back a large portion of the loan. There is a false expectation set by consultants in their country that they can cover tuition and living expenses by working all while studying and passing their courses.

As a citizen I have two thoughts on this:
    1. Our government needs far more stringent vetting processes. Students are borrowing money from banks to show 10k then coming here with debt. They then take our jobs and young adults and kids have no way to support themselves. On top of that, because the international students faked their savings they come here and rely on our shelters and food banks to stay alive.
I know too many Canadian homeless people struggling to be okay with the international students using our food banks.
    2. The requirement to have $10 000 in savings is no where near enough.
Tuition is 4x more for them and will probably cost around 12-15k for a year.
Rent for an entire year is at the very least 10k, closer to 15k if you don't share a room with 8 others.
Food, phone and other bills are up to 5k per year.
Why on earth are we accepting people with 0 dollars to their name when they need to have at least $30k CAD to support themselves for a year?
I cannot believe we're still importing people into our country in mass, us citizens are up to our necks in problems and the food banks have kept them from dying, now citizens are unable to get the help they need because our politicians need more money in their own wallets.

U do realize its not like international students can come and receive education here for _free_ , right? Every single IS must pay at least $36,100 in tuition fees alone. And where does all this money go? To the government, to taxes, money to help improve the country. Im all for international students, not just for the money they pay, but for how much diversity they bring. I love meeting people from all over the world. I agree that _some_ IS are exploiting the food bank system and that they should stop trying to hijack the system, but to go as far as to say they should simply be _banned_ from coming here is wrong in so many ways.

In the recent years the makeup of international students have changed. There is this policy that international student who graduated from Canadian universities and colleges can obtain work permits for something like 24 or 30 months. Now we are attracting all sorts from certain parts of the world whose sole purpose is to get permanent residency so they can apply the rest of the family to come over. They pick the easiest of the college programs and degrees from the small town universities.
Problem is these graduates on work permits are stealing jobs from local young people. These people will take jobs at low salary that are way too low to cover the living costs. They will accept commutes that local won't. Eg. Taking public transits from midtown Toronto to Newmarket on a daily basis. Their quality of work aren't too good. They are usually not a good fit for mainstream work culture unless the workplace are full of their own countrymen.

I think every person deserves an opportunity regardless of their economic status.
However how governments approaches this issue makes a whole lot of difference. If full time work would be available for everyone that wouldn’t be an issue.
If the housing would be affordable and available for everyone that wouldn’t be an issue.
Trudeau has a direct contact to prime Minster Moody, he can request supplies for Indian students in various forms based on how many students require such help. They can request non perishables etc.
I’m sure India would not oppose sending food and some other goods that Canada need. India isn’t that poor anymore it will become the biggest economy in the world after China but proper negotiations needs to be conducted to avoid immigration fraud and scams.

Blame provincial government then too who has let colleges get licensed in strip malls with very poor education and almost only international students. Also underfund the good quality colleges and universities so they are dependent on the tuition from international students. Lots of blame to go around.
