    This is why we have tv reviews. And super valuable from calibrators that break things down well. If we just assumed every tv was going to be great, companies wouldn’t have to do anything well. Great review. A great tv it sounds like…if you never watch it at night, don’t game, and you want to overspend. Ouch. But maybe it works for some people.

    I think reviewers forget what it's like to have a bright room 100% of the time, not just for quick tests. There's significant value in a TV that can handle that and get really close to the best OLEDs.

    I had a lot of great expectations for this TV being that on paper it sounded great. So, thanks for the honest review. I'm starting to wonder just how critical Value Electronics can be since they are a retailer and have dubious interests between their customers and their suppliers. They gave this TV an amazingly positive review.

    Thank you classy for reviewing a 75 inch version…while I want to say, the qn90b doesn’t offer Dolby vision as well. Though your hate of lifted blacks, is starting to drive me crazy, I mean I will be coming from a 55 inch edge lit Samsung ks8500 | 42 direct lit x85j, so for me the size of the tv, will be a good upgrade, while I understand blooming won’t be under the best control, but I could care less for the oled could have burn in, which I do not want to deal with… I will see how well the Samsung deals with the possibility of burn in, but I may consider a Samsung/Sony qd-oled panel once they make a bigger tv.
    I just want to add, that I have the 75 inch x95k, and I don’t really see blooming… which could be my own eyes, not showing me such things, but I think I am good until their will be a bigger qd-oled tv, available, depending on how well it does with burn in….

    It's funny how sometimes reviewers see the world through completely different eyes than customers do. Case in point: the S95B from Samsung. All the reviewers raved about it, but when it actually got into the stores, customers quickly found out how ridiculously over-boosted and over-saturated its colors were (especially greens and reds). Not only are customers not buying that "flagship" TV from Samsung, they are asking if the TV's are broken when they see them. The first thing most customers actually say when they see one is, "Why do the colors look so completely unnatural? Is there a way to fix that? Why does it look like that? I sure hope that can be adjusted?" Well, needless to say, the S95B is not selling in anywhere even close to the volume Samsung was expecting. But, when you mess up on your color accuracy that bad, that's the type of thing you can expect to happen.

      Colors look oversaturated in stores because they're in store demo mode, not in a natural setting. How do you know when people see it in the stores they don't like it?
      How do you know nobody is buying it?

    How would you say this compares to the X950H and the X95J? From other reviews it looks like this had more blooming than both of the previous models despite being mini LED. Would you say this is worse overall with contrast?

    • @Monster-Abee
      @Monster-Abee 2 года назад +2

      I have a X950H, LG CX and an A80J. The X950H was the best TV I bought before the OLEDS. The X950H had decent contrast even with the wide angle filter despite what the numbers on paper stated. Only real weakness is the blooming in a dark room in regards to movie and watching shows. The next model from Sony didn't improve and nor does the X95K that much from the X950H. In other words, there's no upgrade from the X950H in led terms. You have to go OLED from there.

    • @jibrilbarayseh
      @jibrilbarayseh 2 года назад +1

      @@Monster-Abee I have the X950H and I would agree with that. And like you said the contrast is deceiving. I have a U6G which is supposed to be double the native contrast but the 950H is actually deeper, I think it has to do with the local dimming. But yea just sad that Sony can’t get rid of blooming, even with mini led and their charging triple the price of other TVs that are actually better.

I especially like that you addressed what could possibly help this set going forward with a price drop and firmware update. I don’t know enough about programming and controls but I am guessing that any firmware update would have to be MAJOR to correct these issues, and Sony does not have the best reputation with fixes through firmware updates. If firmware can really turn this around then they should have delayed its launch a few months and tried to get it right the first time. Anyway, I value my 75” x950h that much more now. Thank you!

    It's a shame Mini-LED really hasn't changed anything. We all want LCD brightness but the zones and control is severely lacking; even at 1000 zones which is basically "flagship" ...still laughable. Step it up to 20-50k and maybe we have something. Sony probably realized LCD is a dead end though and they're just going through the motions until it's no longer worthwhile to produce. I respect them for not harming the actual content due to the panel's shortcomings though; just my opinion but preserving detail is more important than trying to make LCD look like OLED.
    Thanks for taking a look at it Classy

    Any chance the 85 inch might review better? This is very disappointing to say the least and if I’m being honest it’s kind of taking a little bit of the air of excitement from the balloon for the Z9K. Even if it does slightly better than the X95K it still won’t justify a 10K price tag.
    Anyway as you say I guess this panel can look good and satisfy some consumers (even myself lol)with the color and brightness but yes the price needs to come down considering it’s using Miniled. I was just expecting more.
    It’s crazy though because when Whisperstatus did his comparison with the S95B I actually thought his X95K looked better in a few shots compared to the S95B. Then again it might’ve been the camera not fully representing the S95B at its full potential.
    In any event if there is that much panel size variance in terms of performance for a specific model that’s just another can of worms that should not be happening. Oh Sony **sigh**.
    Unless the Z9K does wonders at a respectable price point(doubtful) then my choices come down to the Samsung quartet: S95B, QN95B, QN900B or QN90B. Samsung really hit hard this year and seem to have a better handle on the Miniled tech than Sony. Granted it’s their second year but I don’t recall them struggling with Miniled in their first year (ex: QN90A).

    Ouch, not good. I had high expectations for this TV.
    I noticed the S&M disc and tv demos you showed looked great on this tv, showing why we probably shouldn't use them.
    If you could come up with some really challenging scenes (darker scenes with highlights) compilation so we could really see how these tvs do against each other like that sweet water scene is good to test a local dimming tvs.
    And I was wondering if you could edit your side by side of the qn90b and c1 to show the tvs exposed properly at the same time? Hopefully it wouldn't be too much trouble. As I and probably others had trouble comparing the performance, showing one at a time (would love to see how often the qn90b raises blacks to hide blooming? as I've noticed it doing...maybe, or is it trying to show more shadow detail over maintaining contrast? which is why i'm hesitating on pulling the trigger on it, it's already been on a decent sale!). If you could that would be awesome, it could really help people see how well it does in actual scenes. I couldn't find another video that showed real dark scenes side by side. Don't worry about the gaming part, there is plenty of that content to compare. Thanks.

    Just a question that hit me nothing related, generally number of dimming zones is less with reduction in tv size. So smaller tvs have a tad lower brightness than its larger siblings. Can anyone confirm that does lower brightness tends to improve color gamut coverage or the color gamut coverage remains same accross the board in the same line up.

      He turned up the ISO. But I’m sure there is blooming. It’s a miniLED, so it’s going to have it, but it might not be as abundant as his video. But that’s the trade off. Super peak brightness at 1700 nits over inky black images with no blooming. If you want dim inky images, there’s always an OLED. However, the VRR local dimming issue is ridiculous. Hopefully Sony patches that via firmware, because that is a huge miss.
