  • In this video, I take a look at the iPad version of Gravity Sketch which is a free 3D app for the iPad. It is really fun!

    It looks like a very interesting app. I may have to get an iPad so I can try it out. Thanks.

      You also have grease pencil for Blender you can try that one as well.

    Thank you for video. I was confused with this iPad version of the app, as I could not figure out what was going on as the tools are not as intuitive. I just started seriously getting used to using the Oculus version of Gravity Sketch and I figured I need to learn how to use the iPad version as well. There is a surface to spline tool in the Oculus version that's more easy to implement than manually applying the ribbon tool to add surface to the chair.

      @robertlkiss  2 года назад

      Yeah to be totally honest ever since I started working in the VR version is topped with the iPad completely. While the iPad version is great for travel, the VR is just so much more intuitive and full of tools.

    i have found this app really amazing for working out ideas in 3D and I’m just an illustrator. I’m struggling a little with knowing what the different tools do and how to use them, for instance what’s the difference between a ribbon and a planar volume. I’m also having trouble with symmetry but I’m still learning the app as well. Very helpful video! I’d love to see more gravity sketch for ipad vids

    Thanks for the vide. I first saw Gravity sketch in the Oculus and am saving money to get one to experience the app. Now, i got to go just download on my ipad! lol It sort of looks like the geese pencil in the blender, i wonder if it's similar... just started learning blender since it's free when SW is like 5 grand. BTW, I'd refer the "drawing surface" as "sketch plane".

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  3 года назад

      I hav nt tried out grease pencil yet but I recon it's quite similar, but the good pare is that it's portable. And yeah slat h plane should have known that ^_^

    Gravity Sketch seems really cool! I wish there was an app for windows so I could use it for my drawing monitor. So far it looks like there is only an Oculus Rift VR version for windows.

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  3 года назад +1

      That is correct but you should try out Blender's Grease Pencil tool, which is relatively similar.

      @@robertlkissvery funny for me at least. I am gonna check out gravity sketch on my iPad. So this vid was useful. Hope they have some sort of a loft or skin function at this point so recreating the surfaces is not needed, 🤞

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  2 года назад

      @@EricStrebel they have great surfacing tools in the VR version but those don't translate that well to the iPad sadly :(

      @@robertlkiss Bummer, not sure I can justify the cost of a VR head set, or if I am even interested, but this 3D sketching looks like the future to me.

    What you can do on an iPad/Pro is over the years is slowly crawling its way to what can be done on any old PC in tripple the time. I appreciate the demo and apps like this, thanks. Still, it's painful to admit, because of the growing cost of iPads, that using open souse/free software like Blender 3d on any inexpensive 2 in 1 PC laptop, anyone could due this demo with many more options, for less money and time. Just a thought thanks

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  3 года назад

      Well said! But sadly I am not really good with blender, I don't like the workflow there, but there are a ton of great tutorial out there for it.

      @@robertlkiss Yeah Blender was much better, I haven't tried gravity sketch for Ipad but i am going to today. For vr viewing 3d projects in real scale is cool but without the options for key binds or shortcuts it can be rather janky
