Incredible that a cassette tape running at 1.875 ips is able to reproduce that frequency response. When audio gear was worth every penny and built like a tank.
Glad to see a successful recap, pity Nichicon FG are gone.
These days watch out for degraded tapes... CrO2 and superferric suffered the worst THD and remanence. Metal are frail in their nature.
My 222ESJ also has the same issue. Usually, the level of Type II recording cannot exceed Dolby's level, while Type I or IV tapes are slightly better

Nice video but i saw record eq cal on "normal " ? with a metal tape ?
10:00, 11:45, 12:10, 13:15 Where is it shows normal???? Look at the display carefully.
If you mean EQ switch position - you can use it in any position for any tape, read the owner's manual. It says "low" for music with a lot of low frequencies and "high" for music with lots of highs.

А я в своей 222esa не менял конденсаторы - стоят все родные. После добавления 300 PF в левый канал и 700 PF в правый для компенсации спада АЧХ, THD на TDK D90 от 0.7% до 0.9%. На втором типе ленты эта дека пишет с заниженным подмагничиванием, если перевести в режим HIGH Rec EQ и повторно выполнить калибровку - получим тот же ровный частотный диапазон, но записанный с большим подмагничиванием и меньшими искажениями (около 1% для IEC II) 😅
p.s да, и кстати, я поставил в 222esa головку от 222esl
В этом экземпляре головка в полном порядке. Играет весь диаппазон без спада и без компенсируюших конденсаторов. В один день и к вашим конденсаторам заглянет пушистый зверек. Время все таки. Они уже все подсушеные. Попробуйте Nichicon Fine Gold, пока еще не совсем все закончились. Их уже нет, и год как не производят.

Привет Сергей, не думал что придётся тебе писать но нужен твой совет, не покидает меня желания купить Nakamichi CR-7E или RX-505, оба в хорошем состоянии, особенно CR-7E, продавец пишет что пробег 50часав и в принципе продаётся как новый с пультом и бумагами .
Что посоветуешь?
Для меня главное надёжность и особенно Sound! Голова кипит 😅
Оба дека с одинаковой схемотехникой и звучат одинаково. Я рекомендую ставить Nichicon Muse по пути звука, намного живее звучит. Мне оба в принципе понравились. У CR-7 Direct Drive. У 505 старая лентопротяжка. Новая менее капризная. Но я бы брал либо оба либо по состоянию. Слушать нужно.
