Rest in peace brother You are one of the reasons I started playing guitar back in 1970 and still play today. It's going to be a good time whenever I get up there with you guys that have gone on before me and jam brother!!!
I seen them in 92 in concert and Free Bird was the last song they played that night. Now every time I hear it I cry like a baby my cousin went to the concert with me a month and a half after the concert she passed away from cancer. It was the best damn night we ever had she really enjoyed it but man it still hurts to listen to the song without her being here. Love You ❣️❣️❣️ Angel. R.I.P. Sherry Bennett forever and always in my heart.
All of the guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd where unrated. But they all Great !!! Steve, Allen, Ed, and Gary where (and are) one of the greatest guitarist of all time. That three guitar attack that Lynyrd Skynyrd perfected is what made sound.
Freebird is a slide into that wiil last forever man and Gary played it so pretty and perfect he was so amazing i dont think he new how great he was . I love that riff rest in peace in guitar heaven Gary you are a true great guitarist. How could he not crack a smile after nailing that riff time after time talk about southern gentleman. Gary you sre the coolest man .I love those Skynyrd tunes lam gonna listen to the first album again for the millionth time .
Sweet and seductive and building up to that climactic release. His expertise is just so beautiful. The way he and Allen would play off each other both of them just giving and giving it's just so great synergistically making the songs so powerful. He is an iconic guitarist.
The famous Burgandy Gibson SG! Only famous because of Mr. Rossington. Rest in peace the original Skynyrd members. Playing southern rock on the streets of Gold in Heaven!
Loved Gary's guitar playing, especially his slide work, gets no respect along with rest of the band, all underrated. I love the Freebird Live @Knebworth where they are out on the tongue, he & Allen standing so cross together tradin licks & Gary looks up & Allen & smiled (since Allen was like 7" taller lol) you can't see Allen's face, I so want to know abt that moment, did Allen say something, those guys knew each other so well, played together so well, you can tell they had special relationship like brothers.
@@robertevans275 yep, & they looked at Ronnie as a brother but also a father figure even though he wasn't much older. I feel bad for Gary bein the last one. I hope he & Allen made peace. I heard during RCB days they were always fighting, I brlieve after Allen's wife died, Gary said he had so much anger in him, that's why they broke up band & Gary & Dale moved to Wyoming. I think it was Gene Odom that said when Allen was in wheelchair, he would come out on stage & he had to speak abt why he was in wheelchair then he would talke abt Skynyrd bein the best band & he went to side of stage to watch with tears tollin down his cheeks. That juat breaks my heart to think abt, I know he brought it on himself but I dpn't think there was any worse punishmemt than to watch the guys all out there & he os stuck in a chair. I hope he Gary were in a good place when Allen passed.
@SNAKE PLISSKIN good question, I wish I knew. It certainly couldn't be abt their reputation because plenty of other bands/people have done crazy, if not crazier than they did. I don't think it is because of time pre-crash band was together becausr there are plenty of acclaimed ones who died in their 20's, so many in the 27 club. I often wonder if the Muscle Schoals tapes they did in 71-72 that were messed up by whoever in charge of recording that when they shopped it around, people thought it was terrible, when guys listened to it, they said this is fucked up & not way we recorded it, somehow it was recorded on wrong side of tape so it sounds like you are in a cave (I did similar myself once , I knew it was wrong immediately, I wasn't recording, just listening on reel to reel & threaded it wrong way so blows my mind, no one figured it out!) Sorry that part so long, kinda hard to explain BUT if record companies had heard properly & loved it, they might have been recored sooner by a few yrs, would that have made a difference? Would it have made a difference, maybe they would never have been on that plane. Guess we will never know. They were headed to the top w/ Street Survivors, Steve was a whole new weapon. Not that Ed wasn't great but Steve wrote lyrics, the guys wrote their music & helped here & there w/lyrics but RVZ was primary songwriter & Steve had the lead vocals that Ed didn't have to give Ronnie's voice a chance to rest sometimes that he desparately needed because of his throat issues. Something I still think abt it & still chokes me up, still grieve
Yeah Kathy, I don't think the "rock n roll elite" could handle some down home, shit kickin' southern boys being so God damned TALENTED. Always liked RVZ's tshirt that said, "Who the fuck are the rolling stones anyway?"
@@allencollins6031 Ronnie never sounded quite as good to me, after Allen was no longer physically capable of doing his thing. Kinda like Angus & Malcolm. But when Allen took the lead, it was all him.
Just think..a year ago... When this was posted...you'd of never thought Gary would be gone....here it is He's gone to go play with Ronnie & Alan..Cassie & Steve...Bob & Billy & Ed....
I am a huge Gary Rossington fan primarily because of his slide work. When anyone asks me my favorite guitarist?? You got it! I do love the way Allen, Ed, and Steve played. Ricky Metlocke is up there too. Am I the only one who sits in front of these licks and lessons, with my guitar!?!
I don't think their musical genius was or is underrated, I now so many people here in germany, that know this great and unique band and miss these guys and their awesome playing, one of the greatest bands ever 👌
I always liked that intro he played on "That Smell", and love the feedback effect on the studio recording. I watch this live 1977 black and white once in a while as I thought it was so cool, and just months before the plane crash. Gaines was going to be a maestro. Love the piano in this song as well. Best band ever (IMO) with the triple guitar attack: ruclips.net/video/hib4n9RmFrQ/видео.html
I’ve seen interviews with Gary and he says in the early days playing clubs he only had one guitar and they didn’t have time so he played in standard tuning, in those early clips he’s playing slide on a les Paul, I wonder if he’s in standard tuning or using another guitar that’s in an open tuning like e or something
Really good but imo not even close to the best. What made them great was the "coincidence " of them finding each other. Separately each one is tremendous. Together they are the certainly among the best bands ever.
Gary Rossington was the Prince and was one of a kind there will never be another like him . He was often imitated but surely never duplicated. R I P
Rest in peace Gary, you're as free as a bird now 🦅
Gary was pitch perfect always! Deep in! RIP brother.
Thanks MAN!!!!...for All the good times with your Pick..N..Sliden,...RIP.

Gary’s playing speaks right to your damn soul! Dude has brought me to tears many times from his guitar riffs. Especially Tuesday’s gone
Couldn't agree more, Gary has a sound all of his own and he shows it on his solos especially on Tuesdays gone. Absolutely love that song

I just love all Gary's guitar work.,he's been an influence on me since the 70's when I first picked up a guitar....
Oh yeah!
And it ends with soloing by the late Allen.
I seen them in 92 in concert and Free Bird was the last song they played that night. They are all great, I saw Gary at Shoreline and he plays as well as always, a real treat to see.
I just listened to this on repeat for an hour.

The live from Atlanta is the most soulful lead I have ever heard.
The famous Burgandy Gibson SG! Only famous because of Mr. Rossington. Rest in peace the original Skynyrd members. Playing southern rock on the streets of Gold in Heaven!

ALL OF THEM ARE MY FAVORITE!!!!
Call Me the Breeze is a kick ass Rossington solo but no slide -

All of Gary's slide work is good,👊
RIP Gary
R.I.P. Mr Rossington
That lean with Bernice is killer...59' LP named after his mom
Freebird is epic, but beyond that I would have to go with Tuesday's Gone and That Smell. RIP Gary.
Freebird has to be the best overall slide ever.
Steve Gaines was one of the most underrated guitarist ever.
Got to love "Got the same ol blues again"

The best slide guitarist to ever live in my opinion. Gary Rossington hands down.
Better then Duane Allman you think?
Easy there tiger
Loved the video, Gary’s my top 3 guitar players all-time

RIP to the master!
Thang you for Video.
this was fantastic
I think One More Time is not only Skynyrd at its best, and some of Ronnie’s best singing, but Gary’s prettiest & tightest solo work.. 😊💕👍
God bless you Gary bro.
Steve Gaines is the best and a stud on the guitar
The one that starts 3:03 Oakland 77?
You know it
Great idea for a post. Ty

When it comes to Skynyrd I’m personally an Ed king fan but something bout Gary just slow playing and slick
Most awesomeness band ever
I heard Gary say that he had a guitar in the rock n roll hall of fame right next to Duane's. That right where it belongs! Rip brother.
0:21 Best bad ass solo in the history of music
Americas Rock Band

You went to black and it was an Allen Collins Solo. Not fair.
Gaines...just looked the rock guy...
When you listen to Lynyard Skynyrd you know your getting the real deal.

The picture in the caption is NOT Gary Rossington! It is Steve Gaines, who died in the 1977 plane crash.
No , the pic is Gary not Steve
Duane who? Gary’s chops I dig more
