Ford StreetKa, one of the cheapest sports cars you can buy

  • The Ford StreetKa was based on a concept by Ghia and then designed and built in small numbers by Pininfarina in Italy.
    There are now very few of these chic two seater sports cars on the road.
    If you had £1000 to spend on a car and you wanted to get something sporty and rare, but also cheap to run, I believe the Street Ka would fit the bill.
    Come for a drive with me and I'll tell you why.

    My first car was a SportKa and I had so much fun driving that car. The low end torque, the gearbox feel and it's short throws, the feeling through it's hydraulic steering and the suspension that is insanely supple compared to modern "sporty" cars but still feels so sharp. The same speed bumps my sister's '14 Seat Leon FR has to slow down to 40 kph for to keep from having our teeth rearranged my SportKa took at 60 kph with room to spare.

    I have one of these (just the soft top). I use it for trips around the EU and up to Scotland. I've only seen one outside the UK, that was in Almeria in southern Spain. The best thing about it is the boot, which is a decent size and separate from the hood compartment. The parcel shelf (shown near the start of the video) is the right size and shape to hold your phone for maps, and the 12V socket is just below. As for parts, they are generally readily available, but not always. I had a side window smashed in Porto and it took three weeks for the replacement glass to arrive. On the other hand, an electrical breakdown in a remote part of Spain was fixed without delay and the car was on the road the next day. My car has an electrically heated windscreen which works well. All in all I'll be sorry when it goes.

    Well! I was so impressed by this review I went out and bought one, the problem being that here in France it cost £7000, and the roof,(from UK), another £600, but that is for a little car which stands out in a crowd, a very stylish car I think, but I will have to get the Ford badge off it and replace it with a Pininfarina badge I think. Thanks for steering me in this direction!

    Had one, exactly like the one in the video, I still regret selling it for a more "sensible" option (MB C270CDI), fitted it with some sticky 205/40 R16 tyres and it was a blast around the twisties and the most fun i've ever experienced with less than 200hp. Such an underrated little thing, although slightly thirsty if pressed hard. And dont get me started on the transmision... The feeling was otherwordly.

    Beautiful little cars unfortunately they do rust. It would be nice to do a video on a Renault wind. Which was based on a mark two Renault twingo. It is also in a similar price bracket to the street Ka.

    Have you found out what the lock in the inside middle of the back of the locking compartment does? Chris B.

    • @sportscarstory
      @sportscarstory  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. It opens the boot if you can’t use the remote button on the key. I suppose it’s useful if the battery goes on the key fob.

      @@sportscarstory Very many thanks for that information! I was a bit worried that there appeared to be no other way into the boot but the plip, and I really do not trust electric relays. Chris B.
