Matt is on it with these cheap cars, these are decent little cars, shame the only experience I have of these is it breaking down on me on a busy motorway due to overheating. I think the Fiesta is a better bet over this plus I think the original Ka is better on design. Great video as always
agree , looking at getting fiesta 14 or 16 petrol to replace my focus 1.8tdci on 130,000 at moment ... had clutch flywheel etc but im also looking at runnign costs in general its tight wether to do it or not ...or keep fccus untill boy finished uni which involves 350 mile up and down to lancaster uni from hastings 4x a year .. ALready replace vacum pump , clutch fly wheel and servo boost ... but i think its got a injector on way out or tappet rattle ...comes and goes eco boost 1.0 or 1.25 big no no
The 1.25 engine has been around for years, its very reliable. I wouldn't touch a fiesta with the 1.0 ecoboost engine, the 1.6 ecoboost found in the fiesta ST is very reliable engine
The dog was hilarious, thanks for keeping it in. I'm always suspiciious of a car on a forecourt with the wrong wheel trims, it's worth getting the right ones
It was many years ago now but this video reminded me, when I was looking for my first car, I went to view a first gen Ford KA. This thing was at the time 13-14 years old, was listed for £600, right up your alley this thing. Went to see it, this thing was brand new, it looked like the day it rolled off the production line, it had about 11k miles on the clock, full service history and receipts for each bulb, bolt and wiper blade it ever had, sold by its first owner. Really wish I could have bought it but I just didnt fit behind the wheel.
That is the Fiat 1.2 FIRE engine, badged as a Ford engine. One of the best engines ever made in my opinion. Seen them do big mileage with so much abuse, when I worked at fiat some young girl brought a Punto in with oil light flickering. After driving 250 miles home she thought she ought to get it checked out. After putting 2.8L of oil in, (service fill was 3.2) she was on her way. No issues. 😅😮
I drove one of these a few years ago and was impressed with it. Very quiet at speed and fairly comfortable, good on fuel and quite good looking too! Good choice Matt.
I daily a siver 14 plate KA Edge 1.2 petrol. It was my mums and when her dementia got too bad it was just sat on her drive so it was passed on to me. Its a brilliant little 2nd car. £40 to fill, £35 tax, low insurance. Gets me to work at Hazel Grove High, up to Etherow, Hayfield, Poynton, Sainsburys, Marple Tip, Teggs Nose, 2 kids football. Only had 5k on it when I took ownership, and only just done 16k now after 5 years. Serviced every year, cambelt done.
I never understood why owners don't maintain their vehicles, no matter how inexpensive, properly. Even the least expensive new vehicle is quite a bit of money and maintenance is always less expensive than repairs caused by deferred maintenance.
My partner bought one of these 2 years ago as her first car an 09 with 75k on it, I have serviced it twice now and it’s spot on drives like it’s brand new
The engine in this looks exactly like the 1.2 I had in my fiat punto. You're right matt, it is a fiat engine. And a quite reliable one if taken care of.
Talking of Bond cars, Casino Royale also showcased the then new Mk4 Ford Mondeo. It was before it was even launched. Bond drove it to the airport or something.
Brilliant video as always. It shares it’s air vents, with an F40, F328, Alfa 33, and the Panda you took to Spain, an evergreen video for anyone reading this, to view. I will out nerd anyone car wise! Even you Matt 😂
I would love to see the full story on these cars - how and when do they sell, and for how much. Perhaps a roundup program on the last few sales, or an addendum at the end of each video. Is that possible? Love the videos, by the way.
My wife’s car is a Ford KA Edge. The Edge was a middle of the range model, we’ve owned it for 5 years and the only problem we’ve had is a leaking clutch fluid pipe. Ours has also had an advisory for rear axle rusty on the last 3 MOT’s, I must get around to tidying it up this summer.
Hi! Could you please share your opinion - I went for a viewing and this KA Edge from 2010 had quite a high biting point - also clutch pedal is not so smooth - is it just a specific feature of KA's or only my particular KA?
Having been in the motor trade when the first Ford Ka (not K A) came out, I remember the advert at the time which said "get into the Ka" which rhymes with Ma or think of a posh person saying car. People in the trade have been saying K A for years which is why the general public have picked up on it but it was always meant to be a play on the word car.
Wow I didn’t know the fiat Fire engine still existed, these were good engines and don’t do damage if the timing belt ever snaps, that dog at the end 😂😂😂😂😂nice one fella 👍
Love these little cars . I have inherited my Mums 06 Ka after she died . One owner 17000 miles full Ford History . Lovely little thing . I bought a mk 2 Ka for my son the learn to drive in . Again great little car . Cheap motoring ! As an aside I asked Mercedes for a quote to fit a tow bar to my W213 estate …………. £4500 😭makes you think
Those Fiesta-style wheel trims were worth every penny, much nicer than the originals which would have come with the car. Looks great Matt, these are great little runabouts 👌🏼 Keep them maintained and car ownership doesn’t come much cheaper.
it's not based on the fiat 500, it's based on the fiat panda. same engine line and chassis, different body. the fiat 500 came with some 1.0 turbo petrol engines, the KA and panda both came with 1.2L "fire" petrol (renamed duratec for ford) engines or 1.3 diesels. you could get aircon and radio with the edge if you paid extra for the "cool pack" optional extra.
Back in 2009, my first car was a Ka like this, in Dive blue with white alloys. Looked great and was a great first car. Did all sorts of things with it, like transporting five adults with luggage. Only problem I ever had was a dead battery. But then I did service it every year, like you should. :)
Always fun to see what you can fit in a small hatchback, I once took home an aluminium framed sun lounger that only folded where the back rest props up. I took off the passenger side headrest and hooked the front legs over that, then took out the parcel shelf and hooked the rear legs over the back seat; shoved the parcel shelf in the rear footwell area and drove it home. EDIT: Forgot to say this was in an old shaped Ford Fiesta.
My niece had one of these and compared to my mums mk1 Ka I was surprised just how Fiat it felt - the drive and interior plastics quality ( or lack of)). It really is a Fiat 500 in plain clothes.
The second gen Ka (we call it Ka - as in the Constrictor ! - here in Europe) was, according to the German equivalent of the JD Power survey, the No 1 most reliable car for most of its production run, beating even the Fiat 500 hands down ! Mine is now 12 years old, has done over 80000 miles and in all that time has only suffered from a cracked expansion tank, where the plastic is welded to an aluminium plate. My garage repaired it for about £150 - I could probably have done it for £50 but couldn't be bothered the hassle
My stepdaughter has one , 2012 with genuine 53k on it. It’s unloved , not serviced very often , has a BIG dent in the rear driver side , rattles and creaks but keeps going , gone through last 5 MOTs with no advisories. She did want to sell it but I said keep it until it’s uneconomical to repair.
That's a great turnaround. The Ka looks really good. My wife has an 06 Fiesta that was given to her. It's a bit raggy round the edges, but it's just sailed through its second MOT with us. " "Cheap as chips" as they say ....except chips are beginning to look pricey these days 😕
As you thought, that generation of Ka is a less cute 500 and, if I'm not mistaken, was made in the same Polish factory. In fact the same facility as your Panda MJ and my last Panda MJ. It has the same engine and gearbox as my current Panda Easy, except mine has done less than half the mileage. I'm feeling pretty good about that.
You know I had to look it up because of the pronunciation, because sometimes I can be such a pedant about how to say something. 10 minutes of searching, I finally found a commercial from Ford with how they pronounced it. Put nicely, Ford lost their minds when they came around to giving this automobile a name. Calling it Kay is fine, although the way you said it from previous comments was sort of a mangled. As it turns out, Ka is pronounced like a New Englander would in that the R get's dropped in words. So, instead of Kar, it's pronounced Kah. Wish I could remember where someone I met from the UK who was south of Birmingham heading for Oxford where he was dropping the harder R sound in words like most New Englanders. Said he never traveled to New England, and how he spoke was just natural to the region he was from. If anyone knows, that would be lovely.
I’m fairly new to the channel and I’m currently flicking through and doing a mega catch up. I love the channel I also buy and sell cars myself on the side for some pocket money and have done since I was 15-16. The more and more I watch your channel you can’t tell me you’re not related to top gears Richard Porter 😂 even all your references are the same. 😅. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I wanted to buy one of these when it came out for my girl, but the dealer couldn't find the keys for the test drive car, so I got her a Škoda Citigo. That was a fun little gokart
Paper thin sumps.. just had to replace one on a 2010 Smart Car that had rotten through. This video for some reason reminded me of my partners Fiesta she had, decided to check the MOT history on that and somebody has done 45k in it, in a year, who the hell does 45k in a 1.2 petrol!
Proves there are bargains out there to turn a profit on and the way the market here in Ireland is, it seems to be in cheap, reliable run arounds. Great video as always Matt.
Matt,Sam here. Just watched very interesting. Love the mix of fact, knowledge and humour, tea pot,dog peeing on wheel. Enjoyed it hope you get asking sure you will. Was gutted no dog toys left in this one😂 Great vid per usual
Hi Matt, love your videos. I have just watched this Ford Ka. Your prices are crazily low, compared to here in Spain. I am looking at a Ford Ka 2015,for 4500€. It's done 136,000 Kms,(84,500 miles),or a Hyundai i10 1.1 classic from 2012 with 93,000kms,(57,000 miles),also 4500€
Sounds like you have done ok with this one and should be a nice little earner as they used to say😄 Don't think the KA was a bad looking little car and the money spent on those genuine wheel trims was worth every penny.
This car was a good one from the beginning, considering they sorted most the MOT advisories, the cost breakdown still always shocks me how expensive garages are, oil change, replacing the sump, a rear wiper blade and and an MOT being £400, bloody hell, would cost 1/4 doing it myself but fully understand as you are the car salesman, buying and selling them, not getting dirty fixing them which also takes up your own time. But glad this one turned out well and wasn't a dog, my friend bought one of these, engine blew and had to be rebuilt at the cost of £600. Still, surprising why someone repaired all those advisories recently but then traded it in for absolute peanuts.
Decent little car/Ka. We had a series 1 (which was in production for ever) and really liked it. Way better condition that the similar mileage BMW 118d in your recent vid.
I like these. The one thing I learn't car transporting is that shite (French and Italian) cars were actually good and the good (German) cars were actually shite.
It certainly looks like a decent city everyday car. The old but reliable fiat 1.2 is a plus in cars like this and it will never ask for big money for anything that may occur.
I had a 14 plate one of these a few years back & I liked it. Contrary to popular opinions I think the Ka2 is a great looking little car & better looking than the Fiat 500. The ka is a better handling vehicle than it’s Fiat counterpart. I love the interiors & overall the clean lines & look. Cheap, reliable, modern and economical to run & insure. Lots of men slate them & see them as women’s cars but it’s an honest reliable quirky little runabout that makes perfect sense in today’s economic climate. Also good wee motors for trade like yourself to turn fast profits relatively easy.
Another great find, well bought and maintained. The wheel trims make the car look much better. The movie is Quantum of Solace, famous for the opening car chase that destroys two black Alfa 159s. I would like to get one of those as a future classic
Dog is a star! It’s like a stunt dog you should hire it for all your videos 😂 I saw the car on your website but you driving it really helped show the high mileage shouldn’t be an issue 👍
The faulty boot release is a really common problem on the 500, either water shorts out the wires or the wires ware thin and then snap in the top hinge. Unfortunately, the 500 doesn't have a key hole on the boot lid so the whole tailgate is then rendered useless.
As a former owner of a Fiat 500, I can testify to all sorts of design niggles like that. You're probably much better off with the Ford version, and the dealer network is far superior. Fiat 'customer service' is dreadful.
Had a slighly older Ford Fista until recently, when stuff starts to go wrong with them it really never ends. It was an absolute money pit. Here's a list of just some of the things i had to deal with in its last 2 years, all in all it cost me about 2k to fix these issues. Both window mechanisms failed, water rusted the spark plugs, under body corrosion, exhaust fell off, all the seals had failed so it was always damp and would freeze from the inside, the aerial rusted off, door open light wouldn't go out, the seat tilt handles both broke, failed oxygen senor, all four wheels had slow leaks due to innner wheel corrosion.
My daughter had brand new 14 plate fiesta and froze inside from day one. Ford would hear nothing of it. Sold it at huge loss. Never have a Ford again. Heard it so many times on new shape fiesta as well as overheating 1.0 engines
@tomjardine100 2008 was the new model year so it's mostly a totally different car. Plus mine was OK until things started going wrong and when they did they wouldn't stop.
They're crap but Matt wasn't going to replace a new set. Hope the new owner doesn't need to do an emergency stop. If you have to buy budget, Tomket is the least worst. But you'd improve braking enormously by going to the next level up and buying Kumho or Hankook.
I've gone through a couple of sets of Landsails on my mk4 Mondeo over the last 120000 miles I've put on it and they've been fine. They don't grip as well as the more premium tyre but I never felt unsafe with them, even during bad weather and winter months. They wore quite well and I'm not a slow driver (the car is also heavily modified) and I live in a town of high speed roundabouts. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in a pinch.
That little dog say's it all 😂😂😂
I was about to wander off and put the kettle on and then doggo appeared. Matt's first profitable car for a while and Mutley rains on his parade. 🙂
Hahahaha
Yep, puts the Ka into perspective !
Ha ha ha ha. Reading commments then watched to end I pissed myself out loud
Also wanted to mention it... see at 17:53
The dog was giving it the seal of approval. Good job Matt.
Oh, for crying out loud Matt. I must now sit for another 18 minutes of perfect RUclips content. I feel like an obedient puppy 😂
As soon as I see ‘I bought a cheap…..’ pop up I drop everything 😂.
Addictive viewing.
Good little cars. My mum had one, and yes it was in Quantum of Solace. You're basically 007

@@joem8213to get as much power as this out of a 1.0 must mean it's under a lot of stress. And also is probably very complex.

My bad, thought it was going already.
Still, Ford had such a strong range if cars back then, now it's just Eco bollox.
The dog was hilarious, thanks for keeping it in.
I'm always suspiciious of a car on a forecourt with the wrong wheel trims, it's worth getting the right ones

But glad this one turned out well and wasn't a dog, my friend bought one of these, engine blew and had to be rebuilt at the cost of £600. Still, surprising why someone repaired all those advisories recently but then traded it in for absolute peanuts.
That's a Fiat 1.2 FIRE unit first seen in the Mk1 Punto no powerhouse but a tried and tested little engine
Decent little car/Ka. We had a series 1 (which was in production for ever) and really liked it. Way better condition that the similar mileage BMW 118d in your recent vid.
Love it, right at the end and a dog p#@ses on it 😂😂. You couldn't write it. Brilliant.
That model of Ka isnt actually too bad. Cheap & cheerful, albeit a bit tinny and noisy on the road. But for that kind of money it does the job
what a proper little video, enjoyed that
Thanks 👍
Ohhhh a video from Matt that I missed with the bank holiday/half term and gorgeous weather interfering with the usual surfing of RUclips 😎😆
Nice bit of tyre shine from the dog
Actual video starts at @05:37
Looks great. My Mum has one 13 plate. She is very happy with it. Good video.
Another great find, well bought and maintained. The wheel trims make the car look much better. The movie is Quantum of Solace, famous for the opening car chase that destroys two black Alfa 159s. I would like to get one of those as a future classic
Epic timing from the Jack Russell!
I absolutely knew you were not ordering the knock off wheel trims. You can't help yourself 😂
All the cars you’ve done I’ve just looked I’ve not done a video of the Ford Mondeo Mk5
I often find on silver cars the bumpers start to look a different colour.
do a video on your valet team.........let us see them transforming one of the cars.
Dog is a star! It’s like a stunt dog you should hire it for all your videos 😂
I saw the car on your website but you driving it really helped show the high mileage shouldn’t be an issue 👍
Hi Matt, well done nice bit of profit for you another good little car back on the road well done. Cheers Phil from Newark
Shoutout from Chicago !!!
Yet i have had my 2010 fiesta and only consumables needed replacing
@tomjardine100 2008 was the new model year so it's mostly a totally different car.
Plus mine was OK until things started going wrong and when they did they wouldn't stop.
@@Max-lf3tx I had a vw passat like that, it was reliable then it was just problem after problem and it never seemed to stop!
Keeping in the clip of the dog peeing on the front wheel was awesome!!
Nice little runaround for someone great video matt 👍
I’m curious to your opinion about Landsail tires. Great video as always! :)
