@@silverfortune2205 I'm wondering what will happen to our ghost as it's basically made of light and we using the darkness may be in conflict with that.
When Lightfall hits, I want to see Titan, Io, Mars and Mercury return from the vault in the form the Darkness envisions for them. Also, with the Leviathan getting vaulted does anyone think Calus is going to get his moment with the Darkness before being utterly annihilated by it?
I think I may have finally figured it out! The darkness tells us "we are not your enemy, and we are not your friend. We are your salvation". And all the while during this season, the darkness is telling us to grow & to move beyond just the light. They even give us a gift. What if the darkness is trying to be the second catalyst to force our evolution? To become more then just guardians. The traveler made humans into guardians. What if the darkness is making guardians into something akin to gods?
Interesting idea you got there. Remember though. The darkness is not a power to trust or get excited over. It is delusion itself and can even influence people as stubborn as Shaxx. So. I will only try and leave a piece of advice. Do not get fond of or excited over the darkness cause you may find yourself self in a situation you won't be able to come back from. Also. I really hope your hypothesis turns out to be correct.
Its strange, it seems that ikora has a very strong ability to read the visions from the traveler. Like how back right as the forsaken campaign starts she talks about visions of a crown, a rose, and a silver tree, just something interesting.
random dude with some common sense on yt most likely, you are correct. Crown was purified when we killed the cabal, a thorn was transformed from darkness, and the tree which is being shaped by light and dark.
I think we'll get weapons that are even more attuned to the Darkness, in the form of the new Stasis element type. Void energy is still an aspect of the Light.
@@TruTrae Maybe! We've got fire, lightning, and 'shadow'. Stasis seems like the equivalent 'ice'. That's a pretty solid run of the classic magical elements already though.
Oh yeah, the tree is way different this week. If you look closely there's a massive cloud of that Darkness distortion above us in the cradle now as well. It looks like the Dark is slowly changing it from the top down branch by branch.
I'm of the mind that they need to give energy types secondary damage effects. Solar would leave a minor (but ramping up) dot, Void would disorient targets, Arc would have a small chance of discharging to nearby enemies, and Stasis would slow targets down. This would make a stasis Cold-heart amazing in PvE (possibly PvP) I think.
-CFW. Magic- ^this makes more sense. It annoys me when people make ridiculous requests that make absolutely no sense just for the sake of gameplay mechanics or something. Why would the element of a weapon suddenly change from light to dark, it would make more sense if it uses stasis when we wield the darkness, as the ruinous effigy seeps the power of its beholder.
When destroying the Eyes of Savathun they let out a sound that sounds almost EXACTLY like Riven when you first see her in person. Do you think they are connected or just a re used sound byte?
Knowing Bungo, probably the second, but the fact Savathun is heavily involved with the whole Dreaming City incident, yeah, it could have been for story reasons.
I'm a bit worried about Zavala too. He's always seemed like a zealot for the Light. But if his faith was ever broken and he turned to the Darkness, I think he'd still be just as zealous.
@@SB2468YT I thought so as well. When Zavalla talks with Eris in his office in the beginning of the season, he was quite aggressive towards the darkness. Now? Barely cautious. :/
when you talk to him before he sends you to Sloan, he talks about how the darkness is basically here and yet the traveller still does nothing. He was always the one most staunch about protecting the thing and now it's still leaving us to fend off IT'S enemy. There's gotta be a point when even Zavala will have had enough
"You're playing a dangerous game, good thing your a dangerous woman." There's Pyramids Titan, Mercury, Io, and on Mars, which is basically right next to us, and your macking on Eris? Damn your so goddamn fly, blue man.
3:40 Zavala: She (Savathun) thinks too highly of herself. And too little of others Eris: Thank you Dammit, Eris, at least word a response in a way that doesn't heavily imply you ARE Savathun.
I feel like that there are other aspects to this weapon that could be part of a larger message, such as the fact that it uses the Void element (a power of Light that gets as close to the Darkness as one can get), as well as the fact that it is the only weapon that we know of that can destroy the Savathun Eyes.
"I was not forged in light, but where our paths cross, ground could break." This weapon does not strictly to be light or dark. Yes, it seethes with darkness, but we are still of the Light and we use calcified light in the creation of the effigy. It's like it uses both. Like we do in the Prophecy dungeon. Something like this is the end goal of gambit, the plan made by Drifter and Shin Malphur to sort out which guardians can use the dark alongside the light, and which guardians would be consumed by the temptation. As you mentioned in a previous lore vid, the tree of silver wings was planted in a location strong in the Light, and i'ts appearance reflected that. Now the pyramids have been around for a while, and you can see the tree is now still light at the roots and up the trunk. But upper branches are of the dark. With the tree currently being about equal parts light and dark, it gave us the branch that has become the effigy. Equal parts light and dark. The darkness gave a gift to an equal. Not necessarily an equal in dark, but perhaps an equal in light (for now anyways, we seem to be getting more adept at using both).
Bro I was just chillin on the moon today lookin at earth, thinking “I wonder what’s in the rest of the world; like, what about Africa. Is there still lions and hippos and shit?!”
Cheese Boi It definitely exists; our enemies aren’t in every spot of the earth, because they don’t need to be. Obviously pigeons, rabbits and others birds exist as you can see them in the game. I think from a developers standpoint there’s no point in putting wildlife in the game.
At this point, I literally see the traveler as a coward, he want us to protect him from the darkness not for protecting the last city. Let's be real, at the final mission of D2 the traveler woke up when he saw that ghaul started to be a real enemy for him. Isn't that strange? He could've woke up even before Ghaul attacked him, but he left ton of people of the last city die and guardians too. Isn't it supposed to protect the last city? Idk it doesn't feel right to me. (I apologize if I made mistakes on English grammar cheers from italy👌🏻🇮🇹)
@@stunnell I forgot that the traveler actually "travels" to other planets, and it's because of Rasputin if the traveler stays on earth. Great theory btw
There's a reason why the Darkness tells us that the Traveler only sees us as "a means to an end" vs the Darkness who "values" us and sees the guardian as "majestic". Whether the Darkness is being honest or not about it's own perception of us is unclear, but I think that there's some truth regarding of what it said about the Traveler's use of us. Btw all of this was from "The Wager" lore entry. Can be found in "The Unveiling" lore book.
So fun factoid, when you go to the umbral decoder and you go to use the effigy's engram in it, the info card before you get the weapon includes a little tid bit about how you feel the weapon prick you, you feel cold for a moment and then just ignore it. my initial thought is this is where out guardians become properly compatible with powers of darkness, or at least this is the start of the road to our coming stasis powers.
‘How much are you willing to see others loose in the name of power?’- as long as I have good loot I couldn’t care less about what others loose. The darkness gives us all the best stuff
Maybe Savathun is trying to prevent the Darkness from communicating with us in order to create conflict between the Darkness and the Guardians. The Darkness might be trying to help us understand the conflict between the Travaller and the Darkness so that we may not get in the way. While Savathin seeks to prevent this as to create conflict where both sides would be weakened and eventually wiped out by the remaining forces of the Hive with the Travaller being in their possession
Savathûn thinks she owns the dark. She thinks it’s property. During interferance she DID try to stop us from communing with the dark. That is why she is hiding. She defied the dark and is now weaker than she has ever been. My theory is that this is what will make it possible to kill her in lightfall. The dark still serves her and she can still take. But not as loyally as before.
@@Azrael_Equinox The Sidearms perks are actually pretty savage as well if you look at them. Though wish it was a 260 rpm rather than a 300 rpm since we have 2 different 300 rpm sidearms.

An effigy is something created in the shape of a specific person, often with the intent of destroying it ceremonially. If it's a Ruinous Effigy, then it's something in the shape of something or someone else.... And that thing either brings ruin... or is being ruined. Ruinous can either mean it destroys, or it is being destroyed.
I feel like the weapon is eerily similar to the Savathun’s Song strike... turning targets into void spheres seems an awful lot like the Hive turning guardians into void light orbs.
Your talk about what the Pyramids are doing to the planets they've landed on just made me imagine what could have been. Imagine if instead of just ripping those worlds out of the game, they became sort of a "Dark Zone" ala Division. Unique Patrol zones with no clear objectives, no patrols, but perhaps randomized events kinda similar to Public Events. The planets no longer fully habitable, the skys are blackened and vision is poor, the areas have a much more "survival horror" feel to them, some areas outdoors will slowly kill you (a poison effect similar to being outside the bubbles in the Dreaming City Well event) and enemies there are twisted, darkness versions of normal enemies that are always Nightfall-tier strong. But as a result, these places drop special loot only found on Darkness covered planets, special Engrams much like the Umbral Engrams come from these places, very rare, but with weapons that could possess unique, Darkness-related Intrinsic perks. A sort of "Endgame Patrol" zone. The fact that the Pyramids are turning these planets into places only the strongest will survive could have been a great lore reason to make these planets into tough hellscapes, a "Patrol" Nightfall, dangerous in more ways than just the enemy presence, with Light levels kept around 25-50 above the current cap. They could have even brought in events similar to the Well and Court of Oryx into these areas, except Darkness/Pyramid themed with unique Legendaries or Exotics at the end of a tough stage. Ah, well, it would have been a fun deviation from the norm I think.
A Perez Light bearers have had wars against each other before. It’s likely to happen again like it did in the Dark Age. I feel like a second Dark Age will be coming very soon. If not with Beyond Light, then for sure after that in a different season.
I feel like the game is hinting at fallen guardians because beyond light shows a fallen wielding darkness and we know that the traveler was first with the fallen so it is not to far of a stretch. Also with mithraxx making a house of light and from lore tabs on queen breaker, outbreak perfected and others we know that guardians are working with him. Basically it comes down to if there is a fallen house of darkness wielding darkness, it makes sense that the fallen house of light wields light
I cannot be the only guardian who wants to help the darkness and to snuff out all the weak. Of course means I am not a guardian you want to watch you back.
"How much are you willing to lose for the sake of Power?" Dude, all of my friends left me and COVID-19 has made me jobless. I've got nothing left but my soul.
I am no longer a guardian, me and my ghost left long ago. But seeing all that has come, you think back. Few now recall atheon, the construct deep within the vault of glass. A dangerous place to be. The fear of being erased, of never being, made each battle hard fought. The relics within, arms enhanced with vex tech and the armor of the lost. None more strange than a peculiar fusion rifle, cought in an endless loop. I think on these battles as nessesary. But as I grew in strength so to did those who stood in my way. At the end of that path, you look back seeing not the victory. But the mountains of bodies you leave behind. How much we've destroyed, for personal strength or to defend, we have destroyed much. We may wield the light, but the brightest lights, cast the darkest shadows. Remember this guardian, what is shadow, but the edge of your light.
In the Savathun's Song strike they mention that only "Guardians can create void light." Looks like the Darkness can as well, equals indeed. I wonder if the Traveler's Chosen sidearm was in that golden case that Zavala shut ?
This is dark stuff indeed but whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
Does anyone else think the Zavala we see talking to Eris is another projection of The Darkness? The way he talks about Savathun, with a strange sense of familiarity of their thoughts and behaviours, as if he personally knows Savathun; "She thinks too much of herself, and too little of others" I read this as The Darkness sizing up it's potential allies. It has previously been using the Hive and the Taken to do it's bidding, but these prove to be unreliable allies due to the power-hungry nature of their existence The Hive and The Taken differ from humanity in that they are self-serving while we are selfless Perhaps the Darkness is looking for more selfless allies, allies who can be corrupted but will continue to stay loyal even as their own power grows - Unlike the Hive who would turn on the Darkness the moment they think themselves powerful enough, because this is the nature of Sword Logic
With the pyramid ships being where they are.. Could this be the Darkness getting ready to cause a syzygy? Will that syzygy be what... makes room for new content?

I for one will walk the same path i have since Day 1 of Destiny 1. It shall be one with a deep abyss of nothing to my front, and a bright road of light cutting into the oblivion behind me. My Golden Gun and I have always walked this path alone, and we will happily continue burning away any shadow of darkness.
And I shall be in the middle, a simple Exo revived by the traveler's light, attuned to the teachings of the great Warlocks Osiris, Toland, Ikora, and many others. Wielding the power of light and dark for without either, you are blinded to all truths of the universe. So I walk the line towards a twilight future.
Its worrying that the pyramids will speak to us directly but the traveller wont do the same. It also makes sense for them to see us as an equal as technically we have been using sword logic the entire time.
I really feel like this gun should've been a stasis weapon, since it's a direct gift from the darkness. I feel like it would have fit super well with the lore of the gun and given us a fun little intro to the new element.
I'm surprised there was no mention to the titan strike "Savathuns Song" in which the hive were doing the exact same thing, which we used the void orbs against them. Now we have a physical weapon of what went on during that strike. No wizards required.
Am I the only one who goes "So it turns everyone into a suped up Nova-lock?" Also, I still maintain Void-energy is suspicious and Darkness-like. Hell, Hunger attunement Warlock is literally "eat your foes, live forever." If that isn't Sword Logic-y, I don't know what is.
@@nathansnape9614 I think void is said to be addictive to Warlocks as well as Hunters, whereas Titans don't seem to notice as much because they don't utilise the power in as similar a fashion as the other two classes.
I think the idea that the darkness gifts this weapon as the idea of us being equals is to represent the fact that the Light and the Darkness should co-exist in the universe rather than fight one another for its control. However, this meant that their approach was meant as a means to prove our worth as wielders of the light by imparting their ideology in the form of the Effigy. If we think back to the quote from the end of Shadowkeep: “We are not your friend, we are not your enemy. We are your salvation” They’ve already assessed us as their equals, but they want to deliver us from the fear of them as an enemy and (back on the effigy point) transform our fear of them into a weapon we can use to prove that we shouldnt fear them.
This exotic really has me rethinking the Darkness motivates. I think this Gift is a way of it to first reach out a hand to us Guridians to try to get us to trust the Darkness. To start leading us into taking the Darkness as a power within ourselves.
Zavala is, in my opinion, a representation of the full guardian body (like all the playerbase). Doubting the traveler as it is doing nothing while the darkness is proactive.
The Ruinous Effigy strikes me as sort of a combat whetstone. If used improperly it damages the blade (user) and the process must start over until the sharpest blade is forged.
If only we got branching story options, imagine siding with the darkness or choosing to spare Uldren, or saving Cayde if you're fast enough, or letting Crota be reborn, or claiming the Osmium Throne after killing Oryx
What if the darkness doesn’t want to destroy us guardians, but instead just wants to continue the cat and mouse game with the traveller? Like it wants to detach us from the light slowly and responsibly so we aren’t casualties between it and the traveller?? Maybe it wants the traveller to suffer and strip it of everything it holds dear to it...
The darkness sees us, the guardian, as the sharpest sword and Savathun knows it and is fighting to secure/maintain her place as the darkness's main squeeze.
"Our first weapon crafted from the darkness" Until Stasis comes around, that's gonna be way more Darkness By the way, video on the Exodus Quest coming?

@@gucciclov3r809 I don't know, it feels different. Zavala was pretty pissed in the beginning of the season, but he's given to the all clear to a weapon that converts Light into Dark?
@THE VOID it did give us ghosts and was the reason why guardians exist. Besides, both the dark and light exists before time and space and can control them at will, so it's possible that the traveler already knows the outcome of this, and the darkness wants to change that. Last time, the traveler defeated the darkness without guardians.
@@longps9528 It gave us ghosts so we can fight its war and win its argument for it. The Risen led to many people suffering and dying all because the Traveler wanted an immortal undead army, and even then we got a better deal than the Eliksni and races like them who were simply abandoned by the Traveler. Long story short, it gave us our golden age knowing that in the end it would be followed and attacked and it would have to either run or force other races to fight for it. It is using us.
I'm really starting to think that eris and zavala were an item in the past. Some of the small little moments between them cause me to think that he still has feelings for her.
I think he definitely cares about her, I'm not sure if it's romantic as there's not much romance in Destiny's lore (some notable exceptions aside such as best girls Wei Ning and Eriana 3).
@@VallornDeathblade Maybe Zavala softened a little bit after the death of Cayde. Remember his words "I refuse to bury any more friends"... Well. Maybe if we use this weapon enough... we may become another tool the darkness uses.. or, we could become the next Oryx, showing the way of Darkness to others, but with the video on Savathûn's song being stuck in our head, maybe that's not such a good thing to many anymore...

Also. I am curious of the harvest from the tree now.
I hope they switch this gun from void to the new stasis damage type when the new dlc comes out
That would be awesome
I'm of the mind that they need to give energy types secondary damage effects. Solar would leave a minor (but ramping up) dot, Void would disorient targets, Arc would have a small chance of discharging to nearby enemies, and Stasis would slow targets down. This would make a stasis Cold-heart amazing in PvE (possibly PvP) I think.

The darkness is VERY tempting, Ruinous Effigy is fun as hell
What if the locations being sunset come back with actual wildlife that we have to survive and fight?
Bro I was just chillin on the moon today lookin at earth, thinking “I wonder what’s in the rest of the world; like, what about Africa. Is there still lions and hippos and shit?!”
Cheese Boi It definitely exists; our enemies aren’t in every spot of the earth, because they don’t need to be. Obviously pigeons, rabbits and others birds exist as you can see them in the game. I think from a developers standpoint there’s no point in putting wildlife in the game.

He could've woke up even before Ghaul attacked him, but he left ton of people of the last city die and guardians too. Isn't it supposed to protect the last city? Idk it doesn't feel right to me.

From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

I read this as The Darkness sizing up it's potential allies. It has previously been using the Hive and the Taken to do it's bidding, but these prove to be unreliable allies due to the power-hungry nature of their existence
The Hive and The Taken differ from humanity in that they are self-serving while we are selfless
Perhaps the Darkness is looking for more selfless allies, allies who can be corrupted but will continue to stay loyal even as their own power grows - Unlike the Hive who would turn on the Darkness the moment they think themselves powerful enough, because this is the nature of Sword Logic

Am I the only one who goes "So it turns everyone into a suped up Nova-lock?"
Also, I still maintain Void-energy is suspicious and Darkness-like. Hell, Hunger attunement Warlock is literally "eat your foes, live forever." If that isn't Sword Logic-y, I don't know what is.
void is also addictive to hunters
@@nathansnape9614 I think void is said to be addictive to Warlocks as well as Hunters, whereas Titans don't seem to notice as much because they don't utilise the power in as similar a fashion as the other two classes.
True, in a way, Warlocks and hunter use void light basically as hunting whereas titans use it to defend.
Byf: How much are you willing to see others lose in the name of power?

This exotic really has me rethinking the Darkness motivates. I think this Gift is a way of it to first reach out a hand to us Guridians to try to get us to trust the Darkness. To start leading us into taking the Darkness as a power within ourselves.
I have this feeling that Zavala is starting to lose faith in the Traveler and perhaps he’ll end up embracing the darkness and becoming its champion.
Zavala is, in my opinion, a representation of the full guardian body (like all the playerbase). Doubting the traveler as it is doing nothing while the darkness is proactive.

If only we got branching story options, imagine siding with the darkness or choosing to spare Uldren, or saving Cayde if you're fast enough, or letting Crota be reborn, or claiming the Osmium Throne after killing Oryx
Those are likely some of the timelines Elisabeth Bray had to deal with.
