He's right, not only about immediate lowering but also about over time. I got my bp down significantly with this technique, then didn't do it for two months--and bp went right back up. Started in again and it's been low for months. Just 5 min. a day. This is a lifesaver.

Isn't doing the breathing exercise cheating? Like lowering your BP with a breathing technique rather than taking it as usual, meaning your actual blood pressure?

For the past week, my BP readings have ranged from 140-160 systolic and 90s on the diastolic. It really bummed me out. Then this video popped out because I was searching for ways to manage my BP. I was SKEPTICAL to say the least, but I had nothing to lose so I tried it.
129/78. I could not believe it. I tried it twice, decided my cuff was to big, so I switched to a smaller cuff. 129/76. I haven't hit those numbers in God knows how long. Thank you so much! I will incorporate this breathing technique to my everyday life.

yes totally agree to do the breathing exercises every day. Also be aware that constant blood pressure checking can
also raise anxiety levels. Just check it once per week if you don’t have high bp issues but definitely do the breathing every day. Another good indicator of stress and anxiety is your pulse. That can be checked with a device called a pulsimeter which also measures your blood oxygen levels. 133/75 first reading from walking. After 5 minutes deep breathing 112/73 . As you can see the systolic is the one that really benefits from the deep breathing

Thank you so much. I had a terrible fright today. BP187/67. Deep breathing (plus squeezing a tennis ball) brought it down to 165/64 in 5 minutes. I know I need to exercise more, but Covid19 has kept me inside for far too long at 80 years old. I will do the breathing technique now each morning and evening.

How were you squeezing the tennis ball, any certain way & did you do that in each hand- while you where doing this breathing. Also can I ask if you were on any Rx for your high blood pressure at the same time as doing the exercises? I ask because my blood pressure is close to yours was then. I realize the medical professionals want us to quickly go to ER if the above number in reading above 180. If I had any other symptoms at all I would, all I know is I've been stressed out crazy for too long with personal terrifying issues & I'd really like to see if I can find a way to lower it naturally before I go that route - sounds like you did just that too. Anything else like changing your diet or anything else you can suggest - I would appreciate. Hoping you see & reply to my comment - can see it's been a year since your comment & would be so nice if all of us knew you were still ok 🙂

This is amazing. I have noticed deep breathing (being careful not to hyperventilate) DOES lower my blood pressure. I also seem to breathe deeper when I lie down to sleep! I've always been a good sleeper. The breathing may contribute to that. Thanks. I've never seen this addressed. Very useful. :)
NOTE: I also found that (Vicks) steam breathing helped me drastically when I had "Corona virus pneumonia-like" chest pain! I was amazed. I never got fever and got well quickly. Breathing deeply is really important.

The medical-industrial complex doesn't train doctors, do research, or inform the public about such techniques 'cause there's no money in it for them. My and others' results say to me that a whole lot of bp elevation is pure stress from being treated like a piece of meat on a conveyor belt at the medical office. Hell, the CARDIOLOGIST offices are the worst--NONE of them get you to sit quietly with no talk for five minutes, the most minimal part of the protocol. Thanks to the powers that be for practical advice like this--and professionals who model and walk the walk themselves, which makes all the difference

Others that I've watched emphasized the exhaling, i.e. exhale slowly, even more slowly than the inhaling time (e.g. 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out). The rationale being that the exhale activates the parasympathetic system, slowing you heart rate.

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  4 года назад +8

Those 2 extra seconds can't be THAT important. The 4/6 ratio is 66%. I mean, what happens if you breathe in 72%, would it not work? Way too many people overcomplicate breathing. Do it deep, do it slow, let it go.

💙 this, For anyone watching, contemplating doing this every day just as he says, do it. It's worth the little time and it does work. Works the first time & everytime.
From what I've researched and experienced personally, doing this breathing exercise daily 1,2, 3 times a day, recreates a neuro pathway in your brain 🧠 that in time, automatically sends the signal to your body to maintain lower blood pressure on its own. Be consistent and stay positive, add healthy eating and a little exercise to the mix and watch magic happen. Thank you, Dr Story! 🤗
Breathing everyday is a heck of allot easier than relaying on a pill everyday. Cheaper too. 😅
A little advice from someone who cares & experienced it first hand ✋

Stress centers in tight stomach muscles. That's what raises your blood pressure. That's why being overweight is no friend to your blood pressure as it just adds to stomack pressure on the aorta. Your breathing exercises simply release some of that stomack tension and allow the blood to flow smoothly.

I noticed I get a nice lowering of numbers when I do your breathing exercise through the mouth. Through the nose, no change.

So, does this keep it lower for the day or for the next 10 mins or so? Does your blood pressure go right back to where it was previously?

    Dear Doctor Story,
Why does my arm get sore after taking my BP? Am I doing it wrong? I have an OMICRON machine.
I have high bp and very high stress and anxiety. I'm not fat, don't smoke, don't drink and walk a lot as I don't drive.
    Thanks.🙏🏻

Why Diastolic blood pressure increases after you done deep breathing. Mine also significantly increase diastolic blood pressure after deep breathing so i stopped doing deep breathing. After few days my Diastolic blood pressure back to normal again. Deep breathing not working for me.

I am very curious, when when your pressure was higher the pulse was 53 and after breading the pulse was 61? I also tried to do the breading , but when I am infront of the pressure machine I am never clam, I don't know how to control it, that's why I think me readings are very diferent every day, can be deal, normal or high, it is a nightmare :( . A doctor told me that he thinks I have paroxistic pressure, basically I am scare to the machine and scare when I go hospitals also, but my hearth beats not always increase with the pressure, that's why my previous question. Thanks

Do we really have to Exhale out so fast, or can we do it slowly? E.g. keep Inhale and Exhale for same time. Thanks for the video.

    My diastolic drops from
90 to 82 with deep breathing. But the question is which one is the correct reading( The one with breathing or the one without breathing) ??

This is good advice, well presented. I appreciate it and I'm going to follow it. However, here's something I'm thinking about regarding the longterm benefits, that is, regarding a permanent reduction in SP.
Assuming you do this every day, then why did your SP go down by 8 mmhg after three minutes of deep breathing? If it's a permanent change, you should have seen almost no pre vs post breathing different in SP. Perhaps without your daily breathing, your SP would have been 138 mmhg or more? Thanks for your thoughts.

BP is not a static number. It's under constant flux.
