Criterium time is good time.....looking forward to see some great awesome videos now your summer is near and we are moving back to our home trainers for the danish winter. Love the mix with drone, GoPro and overview video. Thanks for having us on board the Maven cycling vlog.
That Bianchi is filthy!! Nice finger pointing when spotting Val, landed right on him when you said "...there". Looking forward to another crit tip video! Heck, looking forward to more crit footage from the coming season! Peace!
No, quality over quantity. I want to see cycling content, not daily vlogs about re-surfacing driveways and buying sideboards. I'm sure if you want that sort of mundane content there's other channels around for it.
Yes! More cycling content. Maven, you need to move somewhere with a good cycling community that rides all year round. Can't face another 2 months of cold Aussie winter and lack of cycling content :P
I got the girlfriend onto to zwift as well to get her working on the bike and build some confidence up! Just got a call over lunch to ensure she was all set up for when she gets home! Nice post Maven!!
Great vid. Re: your next vlog, can you give me an idea of how fit you need to be to race. I know its a bit difficult to quantify but what time would l need on eg. Kew Boulevard or 1 in 20 to not be dropped in D grade, etc. I don't have a power meter.
Don't know but an idea might be to join some of the 5.45/6.00am North Road Rides or similar bunch rides. A lot of good riders across the grades that do those rides. A completely different thing compared to doing the 1/20 on your own.
Pak, I'll answer this in todays Vlog. It's a great question. The short answer is, if you can push on the pedals and confident in your handling skills enough to not crash, you can race. "Am I fit enough" is probably the biggest reason people procrastinate on racing or are deterred from racing. The truth is, the more racing you do, the fitter and stronger you'll get.
Chris Pritchard generally speaking you cannot choose your grade however it was the guys first time racing in Sydney and therefore was able to choose as they did not know what ability he was.
Yeah as Chris said it's the equivelant of 1st cat but these are (fun) club criteriums so grading is a grey area for unknown cyclists. I tried to go down to B-Grade for this race given my current fitness and they said no! For Cycling Victoria and Cycling Australia races, grading is very strict and racing difficulty goes up a few notches. You certainly don't get to choose.
ahhhh I get ya, so here (if you're interested....) everyone starts as 4th cat. once you've acquired enough points you move to third and once you're are third no matter how long out the sport you take you'll always be third. From then the get 2nd cat you need another set amount of points and so on and so forth but if you don't gain enough points to maintain your cat you'll drop a cat the following year... I think, I mean being a track sprinter we never gained points and never got off a third cat licence!!
Martin Oroszi I was hoping it would be slower too. It was supposed to be 45min plus 3 laps but B grade got in the way I think so we went for 56 mins. Tears!
not happy with the cycling Maven because I asked him to mention I'm doing a bike race but he said I don't promote people doing bike races especially for charity but he just did in this video don't get it at all maybe you got to be his friend to do it like they say about Australian people because they are you gotta be liking kangaroos and alcohol to be his friend probably
I wouldn't take it personally, mate. I'm sure The Maven is just being careful to not set a precedent... you know how it happens. "Hey, you promoted Super Ninja's race. Why won't you promote mine?" I'd take a similar stance, if I was vlogging.
maatteeee you have to understand. if the maven did shout outs to everyone who was doing a charity ride thats all he would be doing in his vlogs. embrace what the maven brings to the cycling community not what he doesn't. best of luck with your ride though. Spinnings Winning
It's great that you're doing a race but then so are thousands of other people every week. If you were actually at the same event as Cycling Maven I'm sure he'd chat to you just like he did to people in this video but otherwise the harsh reality is that no one cares if you're doing a race, just like no one would care if I said I was doing a race.
huge props to the older racers man...
Looking good Maven. Hats off to the old guy racing crits.
Congrats Val on your first race. Solid work!
Great one, can't wait for another great tips vid! And congrats to Val on his first race!!!

No, quality over quantity. I want to see cycling content, not daily vlogs about re-surfacing driveways and buying sideboards. I'm sure if you want that sort of mundane content there's other channels around for it.
Good to see Hannah also.
Classic Maven Material. Good on ya
Criterium tips video! YAY! Can't wait.
Yes! More cycling content. Maven, you need to move somewhere with a good cycling community that rides all year round. Can't face another 2 months of cold Aussie winter and lack of cycling content :P
Amen! Glad to see the Mave racing again. Season has wrapped up in the Lone Star state. Getting fat and out of shape for the "off season". Yee haw!
Fewer vlogs, looking much better, great! Really like the content.
It's great to see your season get underway even though it makes me sad that ours is ending. :-(
Good job, Maven! I loved every minute of it. I look forward to the next vlog. p.s.- Great job, Hannah!
Good to see you racing again, there's been too much talking and not enough racing in your recent vlogs
Nice vid mate, good inspo for people looking to get in racing

Go Hannie! Awesome Vlog as always mate :-)
I got the girlfriend onto to zwift as well to get her working on the bike and build some confidence up! Just got a call over lunch to ensure she was all set up for when she gets home! Nice post Maven!!
I think you probably should wash your Lazer, especially the straps! I usually rinse mine off with water after each ride to clean off the sweat.
Great vid. Re: your next vlog, can you give me an idea of how fit you need to be to race. I know its a bit difficult to quantify but what time would l need on eg. Kew Boulevard or 1 in 20 to not be dropped in D grade, etc. I don't have a power meter.

Funny to see the maven without a camera in his hand. Lol.
Mavo what do u reckon is a harder crit course GLENVALE or SKCC?
maven reminds me santa claus and sec. man a child whishing nice presents ....
Mark what's A grade mean? In the U.K. We have elite, 1st to 4th cat.
I'm guessing A grade is what 1st cat over here....don't think it's as "official" as uk standard as it sounds like you can choose your grade....
Chris Pritchard generally speaking you cannot choose your grade however it was the guys first time racing in Sydney and therefore was able to choose as they did not know what ability he was.
Melbourne... he had moved from Sydney* ^^^
Yeah as Chris said it's the equivelant of 1st cat but these are (fun) club criteriums so grading is a grey area for unknown cyclists. Need more Hannah. And Rhino
On form
Do you know what was the avg speed at D grade?
Martin Oroszi my average speed for the race was 39kph
OK. I thought its a bit slower for D grades. Was it 45 mins?
Martin Oroszi I was hoping it would be slower too. It was supposed to be 45min plus 3 laps but B grade got in the way I think so we went for 56 mins. Tears!
Haha, good training though! Thanks.
This might be a very stupid question.. But doesn't the season end like very soon? How come its your first race of the season then?
first race in Australia its coming into summer here buddy :)
southern hemisphere, our seasons are the opposite to yours.
oh okay, thanks for the answer :)
Go Hannah go!

SOCIAL SPINNER beast on replies
Spinner is a reply ninja!
So annoying to see you racing, just when the UK season is coming to an end. Not fair.
