Until my friend mentioned this man I'd never heard of Jerry Rick's, and I don't know why? I was deep involved with Mississippi Hill Country Blues playing Harp behind R.L. Burnside, and others....sure wish I'd been able to hear this man play. He sounds just great! I'm sure he's a Blues Angel in Heaven.
Thanks so much for posting this. I was fortunate enough to have taken lessons from Jerry back in the '60s. My girlfriend (wife now) would watch his two children while we did the lesson. We saw him a number of times after he came back from Europe. It was great seeing him and talking with him at the various festivals.
He would never play in Philly. On one visit back he played a little concert at my store, Acoustic Roots, in Jenkintown. He came over to the house with Nancy the following day and we had a real nice visit. He told me he was have odd, colorful hallucinations but hadn't yet been diagnosed. It was the last time I saw him.
I arrived first to his gig years ago, to a local bar in my city. He tuned in, in the corner of the bar. The whole bar was empty, i picked a chair a beer and set right in front of him. He Laughed..
Wonderful performance. Thank you for sharing.
