Feel profound regret that I got into blues late in life and didn’t have the chance to seek this man out (to see live or in my dreams be taught something by the man). I saw him recently in a documentary on Blues history (on RUclips). When he spoke he was so eloquently and genuine, then I saw him play in videos like this and have nearly lost my mind crazy in love with his blues groove.. Peace out, Wez
Philadelphia Jerry Ricks had the best "chunk" palm muted effect - what a kind man. I was fortunate to work with him at Blues Week at Elkins, WVA. He treated everybody the same.
Jerry was the guitar teacher that formed my musical life in the mid-late 60's and my real life as a result and countless other guitarists and bands in the Philly Music Scene in the late 60's- 70's.. and a bonus was meeting Dick Waterman who managed Skip James and Buddy Guy, etc who lived a block away also on Lombard St..
Jerry Changed my Life. In a week he had a greater influence on my music and understanding of myself with the music than any other soul. Alive or Dead. I think about him almost every day.
Thank you for this beautiful video of such an amazing musicians. 2007 he moved to Kastav (near Rijeka in Croatia), where he also in short time died, unfortunately. To him is dedicated a blues festival which "this year" will be held from July, 25 to August, 4 called "Jerry Ricks Blues Festival - Kastav & Opatija Riviera". There will be performing blues musicians from USA, Japan, Italy, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. That means 30 musicians at 11 stages on several places. About the life and work of Jerry Ricks to which honour also the festival is named a documentary film is made "Crni Kastavac" (in memory of Jerry Ricks), the author Igor Modric, which will be shown on the open-air theatre in Opatija on August, 2 as an introduction to the concert where Lela & Joe Kaplowitz Blues Band with the other musicians will perform.
This song is also titled CHINA Blues. this is a quicker version than the ones I have. Very cool. two feet tappin! and great guitar colors as Jerry would call them. Tuned down below 440 for sure
