No not necessarily. This technique Nadal uses all the time in order to generate topspin. He uses this more than any player on the tour, I'd say on the majority of his forehands.
Great lesson! But does that hurt your shoulder? If you did it a lot would you damage your shoulder? Rotator cuff? I can see pros using that shot because they are playing for money but should your average amateur, rec player do it if there is a risk of shoulder injury? It looks similar to a softball fast pitch. BTW, your presentation, tone of voice, speech pattern are perfect for what you are teaching.
If done in moderation and correctly (loose grip, natural follow through) your shoulder will be fine. This is actually a more natural motion than any serve or overhead motion, which is why you see pitchers in baseball with huge bags of ice on their arms after a game. But of course, listen to your body over me.
Primarily when you're contact point is going to be late, oftentimes when you're on the run. Also a useful shot when the ball is extremely low in order to generate extra topspin, as has been demonstrated in other videos.
thanks for the drill sequence! Good Work!
As usual Brady another excellent and useful tip with your effective way of teaching. Keep going.
Thanks Claudio!
Thanks Brady! I've always wondered how to learn and perform this shot!
I will practise this way from now on.
Hi coach, what is the best grip to be use in a buggy whip forehand?I use semi western on my normal traditional forehand
daperamids24 Stick with whatever forehand grip you play with, so semi-western.
Had my first lesson in a long time this week and was introduced to the buggy whip, delightful.
It's a game-changer. Good luck with it Gavin!
Hi Brady, Whats the footwork/how you hit the ball to make it curve/banana more? Great video!
Still an open stance is preferred here...however the racket path and your contact point on the ball is what really makes the ball "banana".
is this the one Nadal uses...when ball curves like banana...swings from outer path and lands inside of court..??
No not necessarily. This technique Nadal uses all the time in order to generate topspin. He uses this more than any player on the tour, I'd say on the majority of his forehands.
Excellent presentation but strategically when are the best times to employ this stroke against your opponent(s)?
Got a video for that :) www.dailytennislesson.com/video/3-times-to-use-a-buggy-whip-buggy-whip-forehand/
this sounds like a reverse forehand what's the difference?
Just semantics. Same thing!
