When I got my '10 ZR1 the seats, interior and the stereo were the first things to go. I got a pair of Recaros used in the CTS-V. I had to disassemble them, modify the frames and seat track to fit. I removed the heaters (not needed in FL) but left the cooling fans in, they work quite well. My interior guy rebuilt the foam and leather to match the rest of the interior he installed. I now have a very comfortable interior that's a pleasure to spend time in. Total cost was $4k. Well worth it.
I have a sensitive lower back and spent several hours trying out different C6 and C7 corvette seats. There is no denying the C7 is a better, more technologically advanced seat, but the C6 seat if far more comfortable for regular driving. The C7 seat has many of the hard features of many modern high priced sports cars. This includes the sides of the seat bottoms that dig into your thighs and the side bolsters that can become uncomfortable. I am not a heavy person, but for non track use I greatly prefer the comfort of the C6 and decided to buy one with the seats weighing in as an important feature.. With that said the Base seats in the C7 1LT package are more comfortable that the more expensive more highly featured C7 seats. I think this is due to all the extra technology inside making them firmer and less compliant creating hot spots, like most high end sports cars have, and making them uncomfortable like those cars. Sure Ferrari seats look great. Ever sit in them for extended periods? Just my personal preference based on my sensitive back
Thanks for the info I was just going to have another "must have" on the list. I drive my car in heavy traffic of Manhattan and it does ok with the oem c6 seats.
I am happy that GM were listening and sorted out this problem; however, that created another problem, weight. The C7 with the Z51 package is heavier than the C6 GrandSport.
The C7 definitely has vastly better seats than most C6s. However, in fairness, the C6 did change the seats for the 2012 and 2013 model years that are a lot better than the earlier seats.
That Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package is a beast from what i heard but it's horrible for curves, wonder if chevy will offer installation of these seats for that track monster
The American car industry really woke up after the 2008 crisis. The big three are producing global cars and doing great. I sat in an Corvette C7 and a Camaro ZL1 it was an happy experience. I sat in a C6 once and I did not want to buy it. This time I traded my too-stiff GT-R for the Camaro ZL1.
You have to remember that serious weight savings techniques were followed just to end up with a heavier car. The chassis itself is 99 pounds lighter than the previous generation! This stat only makes you wonder how much lighter and faster the new corvette could have been.
What? I think this was an interesting thing. Not every video can be about the latest super or hypercar, they don't make that many different ones that you could constantly post videos about those.
Carbon will continue to trickle down, just as aluminum and magnesium usage has. Even more so now that CAFE regulations are raising MPG requirements. The downside is that cars (everything, really, except consumer electronics) are increasing in price greatly since the 2008 crash. I just read an article somewhere that had the manufacturers boasting about their ever increasing transaction prices over the last 5yrs.
I'm not a Corvette fan, cool cars, but I would never give money to a company like GM for a new one. A company that couldn't even give the car a proper seat or interior. Really dig the all-motor Zo6, though. The C7 is okay looking enough on the inside that a used one could be a possibility in a few years for a weekend car. Assuming they depreciate as quickly as its for-bearers did.
Sorry...don't do drugs, kids. My point (that slipped) was that the C7 interior is so much better than the rental-grade C5/C6 that someone who previously would never think of owning a Corvette can easily overlook the slight weight gain for the much improved interior design and materials.
9lbs. So 18lbs for both seats. I'm tabulating where the C7 gained almost 200lbs (-90lbs for the lighter frame). The LT1 is about 30lbs heavier than the LS3, The new roof adds a net of about 30-50lbs over the bubble top canopy. Anyway, Can we have manual seats at least as an option, especially if it nixed 18lbs.
Took the corvette tell 2013 to actually have a good sport seat, cmon america I love you but that is just lazy. Thank god they are finally paying attention to detail.
Well, that's the problem with modern cars: bloat. Especially budget cars like the Corvette that are bean counted to the hilt. Though I have heard the new MX5 is supposed to be lighter than the current model.
I wish for carbon tub technologies to reach mass market vehicles (in something other than the BMW i3.) Lamborghini did introduce a manufacturing procedure making them a viable option. After listening to bob lutz interview, I am very happy with the results. These guys engineered a car with almost no money. Moreover, the Corvette was about to be a mid-engine car. That would have been a disaster because it would not be a real corvette.
1% track, and 99% suffer because they are forced to sit on seats that are hard and uncomfortable. Hard seats create high pressure points human body was not designed for.
100% disagree with this video. I get tired of people being sheep and bashing the C6 seats. Yes, they suck if your going to track it. I had a C6 for 10 yrs, now I've had a C7 with competition seats for almost 3 yrs. The C7 seats suck! Yes they are better bolstered and that's it. I can't stand the hard leather surface. Obviously they do that so the leather will last longer. I flew out to pick up my C7 and drove it back 20 hrs. After the 1st hr I hated them. They are rock hard! C6 seats wouldn't have done that. They were so nice and soft with that soft leather. I'm seriously thinking about going back to a C6. They are more fun to drive and have more character.
Oh be done with it and use Recaro seats. Far superior to any line of seating. They've got seats that would do a spaceship proud. (Actually, they did supply some of the seats for Star Trek movies and TV). Bulletproof Taumel recliners, minimum "chucking," ie radial play in the seat back... a frame that can survive more static torque, both forward and rear, than the vast majority of car seats. Want to talk lousy seats? Try the buckets in the 90-ish Suburban, AKA "The Lawn Chair," a totally tubular seat back frame covered in foam. Now that was a lousy seat. Those in this video? The first seat was "cool" looking, but was a heavy, clunky thing. The new one? I wonder just how much rear static strength can it take... at failure, does it just break, or will it bend? If I were to spend the money for a new Corvette, I'd spring for a fine set of Recaros... and they have all of the features.
Man, us "Muricans" have become so bitchy that it's alarming. All the liberal screaming for "inclusion," yet all we can seem to do is denigrate one another. Your point is very accurate.
Yeah, as one, I know how to make bolognese sauce, lasagna, and the likes. But I simply don't know how to make seats (I guess you have to be e-tailean to do that). At least he didn't commit the sin of, "Eye-tal-yun;."
These car manufactures should be ashamed of themselves for what they charge for these cars!! All that hard earned money just for some worthless foam and plastic
Yeah, that's not exactly what you're paying for. Plus, unless you want the Vette to cost what a Porsche or Ferrari does, GM can't give every little convenience that we want. The C6 seats were quite comfortable for daily/long drives, but a little underwhelming on the track. Keep in mind that GM knows less than 10% of owners will actually track these cars.
When I got my '10 ZR1 the seats, interior and the stereo were the first things to go. I got a pair of Recaros used in the CTS-V. I had to disassemble them, modify the frames and seat track to fit. Hey i know it has been a long time but I would love to know more about this for my own C6. I have so much invested I will likely never sell it.
Love these technical review videos, keep up the good work.
Excellent presentation!
Awesome Video... thanks for opening the seat up for us to see... Really nicely done
Interesting description of the two seat designs. I often wondered what the mechanical differences were between the C6 and C7 seats. Thanks.
Anybody that takes time to dissect corvette seats like he did deserves a thumbs up! Damn dude! U might need a life....
Interesting video! More of these please.

TOTALLY AGREE. I've had to alter my c7 seats, on the bottom side bolsters because it was so damn uncomfortable. It still bothers me actually.
C6 Corvette - Great engine, great handling, great brakes, interior and build quality of a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier.
These video's come to us for free. I learned a lot from this video. I guess some people can't stand to get a little education!
This is better than the article in the magazine - more detail.
This was a very good video. I wonder if the more firm sport seat will be too hard for a daily driving car or for road trips?
Great vid! I wonder if the C7 seat would mount easily into the C6, without any modification...
great job, please discuss more technical aspects of the C7
Excellent video!
Wonderful video, nice work!
I am happy that GM were listening and sorted out this problem; however, that created another problem, weight. The C7 with the Z51 package is heavier than the C6 GrandSport.
Love your videos but I need to know how to take off the driver seat airbag to get to the seat cover on a C7 corvette. Thanks Dennis
When I got my c6 I really thought I had some broken seats with the rocking. To later find out it was a broken design.
Great cutaway video. My guess is they might make the competition seats manually adjustable via a dial on the side like what Recaros have.
The seats actually changed for the C6 in 2012.
it looked like it only changed the upper support only.
The dent in that right cabinet is triggering my OCD
It's OK, it was really just a glitch in the automotive matrix.
That is a very nice seat indeed! Finally!!
I noticed that the second he said it thanks for making it true-er.
cool stuff!
"It-alien division"

As a geek, I can appreciate this, but coming here after checking-out the latest vids from Motor Trend makes panda sad and nostalgic.

The C6 seat was made to be lightweight at every corner and still be acceptable as a daily driver.
Can't wait for my c7
Density doesn't define firmness in foam. It does affect longevity, though.
Sorry...don't do drugs, kids.
My point (that slipped) was that the C7 interior is so much better than the rental-grade C5/C6 that someone who previously would never think of owning a Corvette can easily overlook the slight weight gain for the much improved interior design and materials.
That is an old c6 seat. The seats were upgraded in 2012 and are nice
for those that don't like this video...they should take their car seat out and see how it's made by cutting it open by them selves...
Interesting!
German company that designs Porsche's seats also designed the C7 seat
In my C7 ventilation works amazing. Heating not so much....
These comments are so petty. People grow up! If you don't like the video don't watch it.

Here's a really simple choice, do you care about nerdy car stuff? No? Then don't watch and don't waste your time writing a stupid comment.
can a C7 seat fit in a C5 Corvette?
Breh... what division did the GM turn to "Eh - tailee- ain"
lol. all these old dudes getting their panties in a bunch. hahaha.
I don't see a relation between my comment and your reply. Could you tell me what is your point?
Dope
C7 FTW
Will a c-7 seat fit in a 86 corvette
Kimberly Schwoegler yes
Just one more reason why the C7 Corvette is better than the C6!
Took the corvette tell 2013 to actually have a good sport seat, cmon america I love you but that is just lazy. Thank god they are finally paying attention to detail.
Good video. I wonder if he's correct about the cooling though? Most ventilated seats pull air away from the occupant, not blow air towards them.
Well, that's the problem with modern cars: bloat. Especially budget cars like the Corvette that are bean counted to the hilt.
Though I have heard the new MX5 is supposed to be lighter than the current model.
Well, I guess that just fits perfectly with the "bloated" people in our country.
how much for a pair i wonder?
+Spirited Driver $4000 ea.
E-tay-lien division lol isn't it the italian division?
I wish for carbon tub technologies to reach mass market vehicles (in something other than the BMW i3.) Lamborghini did introduce a manufacturing procedure making them a viable option. Yeah, well the "disaster" is about to make an entrance.
the purpose of the seat being able to rock back an forth was to easily get stuff outta the back
Fairlady Z for the save!
incredible... seat science lol
Ummm did he just say Italien???
As an Italian, I noticed that straight away. However, I can forgive him since he didn't say, "Eye-tal-an."
Lear....which...he said in the clip.
1% track, and 99% suffer because they are forced to sit on seats that are hard and uncomfortable. Hard seats create high pressure points human body was not designed for.
Weighs 9lbs more, fits people that weigh 100lbs less = 91lb weight savings! Engineering & marketing marvel :p
What the hell lol. Was he trying to say Italian?
They should have left the recline as manual.
"..as bad as it was, for as long as it was.."
----Corvette
wow 61 lbs... for a seat.
It-alien?
Read: "on tha' cheap"
I like how people threaten their 1 measly subscription. 440,000 other people enjoy all of videos they offer. they could care less if you resubscribe.
I tried to take his speech seriously but the moment he drops the South beat....
did he say itaaaaeeeelian
40 is OLD. You're older than my dad.
ARIENS!!!

I'm still waiting for a toilet seat for cars.
Itlayleean.
I think that was more of a joke. I hope.
tell me now about that sparkplug under your seat...
I - Tale - ian division......
Can't believe people can whine about a video about seats lol

The lower gel padding on a C6 seat is not padding for the seat, it's the occupant detection bladder.
Both c6/c7 seats sucks balls :( Solution - non adjustable racing bucket seat = win
hey mister, sorry to break it to you but 32 is old.
calm down old man.
big fucking deal
the c7 seats are good get off the drugs sir
italian? that's the weirdest pronunciation I've ever heard
lol.
