They made us do this in school. This beat you got is actually the basic one. Imagine doing this in a traditional costume and with varying beats with matching choreography. And yes, blindfolded. And... with a clay pot thing balanced on the top of your head. It was so damm hard. But it was fun.
When we did it, the tricks our teacher gave us were: -DON'T hold hands. If you managed to lose your balance, you'll make the other person lose theirs too. -When stepping out of the bamboo, make sure that your feet doesn't stray too far away. That way, you can step in without having to take another big step (it actually makes dancing a bit easier) -Try not to look down. The more you focus on your feet and trying hard not to get your feet struck with the bamboo, the more chances you'll get stuck, the more sore feet you get. -Keep your hands to your sides(like a penguin), and refrain from flailing your arms around. (It actually helped us steady our bodies) -Its a playful and traditional dance. Smile, feel the rhythm flowing through your feet. Dance Filipino Style.
Also, never go flatfooted. You push too much energy that way and you tend to lose balance more. Stay on your tip toes so that it can be quicker and be less likely to get clapped
also!! don't jump so high! the bamboo sticks move sideways, not upwards. you get tired sooner if you're leaping a foot in the air to avoid the bamboo sticks. just do a lil hop. don't raise your feet too high, either, it means you're slower to put them down.

they should try that folk dance (i forgot the name) where they jump from one stacked wooden bench to another, or the one where you balance 6 pots on your head. Philippines have the scariest folk dances lol
Sayaw sa bangko, since it literally means "dancing on a bench" and the dance with candles is called Pandango sa Ilaw which is taken from the original Spanish version "Fandango" due to Spansh colonization for 300 years
Philippine dances are freaking amazing. Dances like this, the Tinikling, Sayaw sa Bangko, Palayok dance and Maglalatik are very hard to do, that, a dancer needs to have balance, agility, strength..anything an acrobat posses to accomplish them.
La jota Cagayana, Isabela and Quirino requires a lot of fast-paced intricate movements as well. Like you really have to coordinate your feet and arms and your partner all at once 😫
Haushinka Esquila binasuan is not that hard, me and my friends are a bunch of 12 year olds and we had to perform it to everyone, well i guess it is hard if you didn't practice even just a bit
Which Filipino dances to try next? - "Singkil". 4 instead of 2 bamboos. More complicated rhythm. - Sayaw sa bangko. Literally dancing on top of chairs stacked on top of each other,. Said chairs look like hurdles. - Pandanggo sa ilaw. balancing 3 glasses with candles inside them. Placed 1 on each hand, 1 on top of your head. - Binasuan. Same concept as ^ but with water inside the glasses instead of candles. - Ragragsakan. Balancing baskets on your head. - Bao. Balancing a clay pot on your head. Have fun, Buzzfeed! :D *I realized just now that we Filipinos have a tradition of showing off dancing prowess hahahahaha
I'm a Filipino who doesn't live in a large enough community to be able to practice tinikiling and it makes me really sad. Also they should try the candle dance next.

In my school we did this as part of our project. The hard part was when we finally knew how the technique we had to dance in a blind fold without shoes. It hurts but luckily we pulled through
I used to be a part of my high school's Filipiniana Dance Troupe (the dance troupe in school who does Folk Dance like Tinikling). We trained so hard for this and on the day of our performance I got injured bcos the person holding the bamboo thought it was funny to play it while we were training. I had a super bad sprain after it. I didn't get to perform on the presentation itself. Hahaha! Felt like I needed to share this story but good for you guys!!!! More videos like this pls.
this reminds me of when was younger and watching all the older kids do the tinikling while i was doing the bulaklakan and wanting to grow up quicker so i could do it too i did grow up and was able to do it but at what cost

This is not difficult, though it looks as it is hard to do it really isn't. I'm 12 and I've done it blindfolded, though it does get a bit challenging when a partner is thrown in along with position changes and partner interaction is added into the mix

I remember when I used to do tinikling in my school and it's just the hardest thing you could ever do but after moments of practice you actually get the beat. It's not that hard... unless you're blindfolded.
I remember dancing this in high school with a much complicated and choreographed steps. Also keeping your head up is a must. You can’t look down and just trust the beat. We also did sayaw sa banko, ragragsakan and pandanggo sa Ilaw but it’s almost impossible for us to balance the glass since we’re only grade schoolers so we had to glue it on a card board and Bobby pin it on top of our heads lol
If you have rhythm, you can do this! Even when young! My dance group and I back in my youth, won first place in the state of California doing the Tinikling! Its fun! Give it a try!

plus when there was like four or more bamboos at once.
i experienced the same and the costume was super hot to wear
And with four4 bamboo sticks

Cariñosa is easier compared to tinikling though
ohhh the banga
"tinikling? sounds like tickling *laughs*"
oh believe me, it does NOT feel like tickling

What's worse is when you're clapping the bamboo poles, and a dancer steps on the pole and the pole crushes your finger. >:|
i feel you, one time my pinkie got badly bruised because the dancer stepped on the bamboo.
yeah, why didn't they put a block of wood under the poles!

yes! that has happened!! or when you step on the bamboo and the pole gets crushed then you lose all balance.. tragic! lol
