  • Edited segment from the Seattle TV show "Northwest Afternoon" on KOMO TV 4 (copied from VHS recording). Christian Heavy Metal band "Bloodgood" was guest on this show.
I (Dave) was a senior in highschool (at Mountlake Christian School) and got out of class early with my buddy Mark so we could go down to the studio and see Bloodgood interviewed live on the set. If you look closely you might spot us in the audience. Mark is the guy with the thick black mustache and I'm sitting to his left, wearing a blue coat and parted hair. Ugh, I hated that hair. lol... I wanted so bad to have long hair but the school wouldn't allow it, so I started growing it longer in the front (for as long as I could get away with it). I was a metal head at heart anyway, haha.
Truth also is that Bloodgood's music was pretty inspiring to me as a young guy. Not only did I love the music (and could air-guitar every lead - haha) but the lyrics provided a lot of encouragement as well. Many of their songs identified with struggles kids my age were facing and I'm glad they were around to serve as part of the support God used in my life to keep my feet on the path and my mind fixed on good things. Great band, great guys, and Les still has one of the coolest heavy metal voices ever (and always dug David Zaffiro's guitar and vocals and Michael's guitar as well and Mark was an awesome drummer too).
This is a cropped segment from the show. I've edited out the commercials and the first half hour of the program, which was just the host going on about all the gossip from the daily soap operas popular at the time. The rest contains the full interview with the band.
Bloodgood remains one of my favorite bands and they're still making excellent heavy metal music. Their new album is great! Be sure to visit their website and check them out.

David Eubanks thank you for posting this. Never seen it before. Michael Bloodgood passed away the same date as my sister. She died a year before. She was the one who introduced me to Bloodgood. Stiil love them today. May they both rest in peace.

These guys were real rebels, because they were hated as much by metalheads as by christians as well and that's what's metal is about! Rest in peace, Michael Bloodgood.

One of the Greatest Guitar Players ever, is David Zaffiro

Met him, great guy. Very very good guitarist, 'perhaps' even great? He is close to being a musical genius, has great chops, can play so, so many styles, and makes it look so easy. However, IDK about "Greatest Guitar Players ever"??? Gifted for certain, but there are some extremely fast, crystal clear, really amazing musicians out there who simply DEFY ANY LOGICAL EXPLANATION AS TO HOW QUICKLY THEY CATCH ONTO NEW TECHNIQUE, TABLATURE, HARMONICS, ETC. NOT SAYING HE'S NOT, JUST NOT IN MY BOOK. SOME PRETTY DARN GOOD PLAYERS, ARE ALSO NO LONGER WITH US? Mr. David Zaffiro is at the least more than a serviceable live and studio musician. Peace, he's damn good, not disputing that one bit.

Wonderful interview with a strong Christian message throughout, and wise answers to the many cliche questions and arguments surrounding Christian Rock even to this day in 2021.To be honest this interview seems to Highlight American freedom of speech and open-mindedness.I doubt if such an interview with an overtly Christian band would ever air on British TV,especially now .......MMAAYYBBEE possibly back in 1988 ,I am not sure.By the way ,I love all that Long permed hair back then.Hope it makes a comeback. The good ol' days Rockers looked so like Rockers you could pick them out from a crowd a mile away.

Ahh the days when a Christian band could go on a secular show and not get absolutely blasted by the hosts for their beliefs. Great interview! RIP Michael!

Music is just a tool. And if their music changed one's life for good, then it is of God.
