He has an excellent solo in "malignant narcissism " with similar characteristics with the electronic kit featured more & another Neil must watch is him at the Buddy Rich tribute concert where he plays jazz "Cottontail " at a quicker New York tempo - it shows how versatile (and accomplished) he really was !
Twas ever thus! A magnificent performance by a gifted Renaissance man. Wrote lyrics, wrote great drum parts and wrote books about his travels. 😮 WOW! And I feel proud if I can complete a sudoku puzzle in 30 min! Sorry for your dry mouth there Wave! Great reaction!
You'll find with Neil, Alex & Geddy that there is alot you haven't Seen or Heard B4...One of the many, many reasons RUSH is a Band/Smallest Symphony Orchestra that is utterly unique & unmatched in the world of Music...
He triggered everything up to the very end jazz part. But the first part where the synths came in was him. If you check out some of their older videos from the early 80’s, he was all acoustic and had church bells and just about everything else you can imagine for percussion. Xanadu from exit stage left concert is one you can see him play it. And if I’m correct the kit he used in that tour was either auctioned off or was a radio prize that some fan had.
@@kelvinmann1058 I think the parts prior to the jazz ending were all triggered by him. He may have triggered the start of the jazz song but it’s a recording with him playing the drums to it at that point. That what I meant in my original post anyway. He’s used those triggers as far back as the hold your fire tour and maybe even before that. But the very end jazz piece was a recording.
@@mpkelley20 Agreed, I just ment more that he triggered all the sounds nobody else triggered anything. I saw an interview were he was explaining to students their processes and he said he was triggering sounds and stuff because you know the other two guys were to busy. 🤣🤣 he was also a comedian. Lol
Neil once compared performing in a Rush concert to running a marathon while doing math equations in his head, and you can really see what he meant here. Have a great day, and Rush on! 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐
If you haven't checked out xanadu live 81 Montreal, please do. He really is a percussionist, no tracks all live in concert. I think he hits every piece in his kit to perfection.
Luckily I got to see Rush in Concert before Neil passed away, they put on a hell of a show. It's likely tied with my favorite concerts I've seen in my life, the other was Band-Maid.
For those who dont understand why Neil Peart wore motorcycle footwear. It kept is feet in top shape and he didn't fly in planes so he rode his motorcycle especially when his and wife and daughter died in the same year. So he came back to rush after taking a break for about three years youll see him his motorcycle gear on his feet
He was triggering all the sample hits himself. The very last "big-band" section was a recorded sample, but he triggered the start of it. The pad is called a "Midi Marimba."
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video on Neil with Rush and ya he was a powerful drummer and got to see them a number of times and tons or talent. Thanks for posting 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RUclips. 😀
one of the best ever rock drummer (like John Bonham or Keith moon). And i know you like the warning. Neil is Pau's one most important inspiration As him pau plays in socks and roll her pants too
I strongly recommend reading his travelogue entitled "Roadshow," which details the North American and European legs of the R30 tour. By the way, all his travelogues are first rate, especially "Ghost Rider," the memoir about his cathartic motorcycle trip following the deaths of his daughter and first wife. In Roadshow he talks about their Frankfurt show being taped and how he wished his solo had gone better for posterity's sake. He was every bit the perfectionist, perhaps to his detriment but also very much for our enjoyment and amazement. RIP Neil
Embrace technology, don't fear it when it comes to music. One of the reasons why he was the best. Always curious, always meticulous, never satisfied. He retired on his own terms, unfortunately time wouldn't stand still for him to enjoy it a little bit longer. All Hail Der Trommler!!!
Did i say that? If so, what i meant is having a melodic instrument pad as part of the kit. I've had hybrid setups like this before in my own projects. I just haven't seen many people playing a melodic instrument while drumming.
I'll fathom a guess how he remembered....he heard the drums melodically, arguably like no other drummer (at least that I know of). So, in his mind, he heard a tune, not drum rudiments. Just a guess from someone who has no inside knowledge whatsoever. I do know that his drumming added to their songs musically unlike any other band.
He was triggering the single orchestral hits with his left foot. Then, a single trigger into the concluding movement (from "Cotton Tail", a Duke Ellington jazz standard which Buddy Rich's band often played).
And that is why he is “The Professor”!
DANG... Litteraly Suround it by the Drums... First time seen these Complete Set of Drums...

I hope he checks out Xanadu, I think he will love it like all drummers and rush fans do.
If I'm not mistaken even the big band sounds were done with triggers also. 🤷🏻♂️

Xanadu (ESL) is the ultimate live demonstration of Rush's musical prowess.🤩 @@scottmcdonald9924
A genius, with a blessed, absolutely tragic life.
I have watched several of this type of review and you are the only one so far who picked up on the grip change, good job.
rush fans rock - best fans in the world - why RUSH is - we appreciate their genius - RIP Mr Prof
The MIDI pad Neil is using is called a MalletKAT express. 😊
Thanks! I gotta look into that!
It's about a $3,500.00 piece of kit. 😊
Probably the best ever.
Neil was the best. I really miss Rush. ✌

Their shows were three hours long… and Rush never lets up.
Yea that's a good one buddy rich tribute must watch
Neil wasn't boozing it up at shoes, he was reading books.
All that and he was fighting cancer for years. Amazing dude.
He really wasn't. He didn't get sick until after Rush ended.
love this guy
You didn't notice that the drum kit rotated, and he stood to play the acoustic kit.

Neil COMPOSED his parts like a symphony...
What’s impressive besides everything, is his foot timing. Bass and tambourine pedals.

That's why they call him the goat he will always be missed
The reason for the reflection strip is motorcycle parts. He gets on his bike immediately after show
King 👑
The way you are feeling as a drummer watching him is the same way a guitarist feels watching Eddie VanHalen performing his solo.😅

Check out John Bonham’s 20 minute solo live at Royal Albert Hall (1970), called Moby Dick.
Shout Out R30 Tour! 🥰🐰
You should really watch DE SLAGWERKER from the Snakes and Arrows Tour....its even BETTER❤🇨🇦
He has 43 drums kit
Neil's set is goldplated hardware. Very $$$
Strange you've never seen electronic integrated with acoustic drums. Danny Carey has been doing it since the early 90s
Did i say that? If so, what i meant is having a melodic instrument pad as part of the kit. I've had hybrid setups like this before in my own projects. I just haven't seen many people playing a melodic instrument while drumming.
For the outro: The individual hits are all triggered by him. He then triggers the track for the final bit.
The trick is the Fat-Cat pedal.

Trommler! Not Trommier 😉
If you’re a drummer how is this your first time seeing this
They don't call him 'The Professor" for nothin'. To think he was a better man than a drummer. R I P Professor. We all miss you.
