    As I say in the video, optimal sharpening can be achieved in Adobe Lightroom as well: it's only a matter of knowing how: fabienb.blog/2020/04/sharpening-fujifilm-raw-in-lightroom/

    Thanks for your video; I’ve had it for about 5 days and getting to know it, love the fact I can import RAW images and edit and share from where ever I am, not sure how it works outside internet coverage, I’ll find out next month when I go remote.

      Cheers Stuart. I suppose that without an internet connection you will have to rely on external SSD if you run out of storage on the iPad. You can edit in Capture One and re-export to the drive as EIP format with your changes. I have not tried to re-import an EIP (if you delete the image from the iPad to save space) but I hope the developers have made it possible.
      I'm travelling today so maybe I can try later

      Yeah man, it's happening! It's early days but the app looks promising already... Plus, Capture One Cloud service... 🤤

    So if I understand correctly, you can edit photos that remain on an attached SSD? That’s exactly what I hoped for. Now all I hope for is for the app to have some kind of perpetual license as well, and not a subscription-only model.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад +1

      Hi Peter! Actually, that is not the case at the moment: as you see here, I take off the dongle after import. Something to note that I realised afterwards, is that the photos are imported into Capture One's internal folder, not the Camera Roll. So if you want to try editing the RAW in other apps as well, it would be better to import them first to Camera Roll (or Files) and then to Capture One.
      The licensing is still unclear but it seems it will be separate from the desktop version but frankly at this stage of the iPad app I wouldn't pay for it.

      @@fabienb Hmm, given the limited storage options of the iPad Air (which is the one I was looking at) and the lack of future expandability in particular, that is a huge bummer. I have a 1TB SSD I was hoping to use as storage. If the app insists on keeping the RAW images on the iPad, that makes it not worth it to me.
      Guess I’ll continue to travel with my heavier laptop instead.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      Well, with the EIP format you have the option to import the images you want to edit into Capture One and then export them along with your edits back to the device you had them... I know it's an ugly workaround but it may work to help you travel lighter. The app is still in beta stage so there is LOTS of room for improvement. And I will add your request in the discussion group so start crossing your fingers ;)

    I was a beta tester- and this is Basically missing every feature I need- layers/masking/heal/levels/curves - all should be easy to do with the exact same M! SOOC that runs C1 on my desktop - and with the bonus of the Apple Pencil on the iPad screen! A missed opportunity - many other iPad apps have a lot more functionality (and those ran on older non M1 chips...). Is C1 too worried about canabalizing its' desktop purchasers?? Very Very disappointing...

      I'm 100% with you. They are (very) late to the game so the "beta test" cannot be an excuse anymore let alone a business model. Even the free Snapseed has more features and had them since day 1, about 10 years ago. But at least it's out so hopefully now they will be under pressure and release more features.
      Photoshop for the iPad lacked everything when it was first released and now it's usable. Let's see

    Tried it today. Not a fan. From importing photos to the limited editing features, Lightroom is so much better.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад +1

      I completely agree. Though LR is a few years old and this is a newborn baby. But in C1's shoes I would have released more features for sure because in 2022 the competition is fierce and a beta version requires a lot more. They'll get there eventually.
      When Adobe first released Photoshop for the iPad it had nothing at all and it took a year to become bare decent

      @@fabienb do you think the price will remain that cheap?

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      Good question. I would consider it a bad marketing decision to increase the price as features are added.
      Potentially, if they figure out the tethering part, I could see them split this into Lite and Pro version (as only pros may actually need tethering). But then, would you charge more those that already pay for the desktop version? We'll see

    • @JLStreetDoc

      @@fabienb only studio Pros that is. The other problem is that I get Lightroom, Photoshop and 2T of storage for $22. And no matter how good C1 gets, I would still need both. And I can do everything I need to do in Lightroom and as of now, even more. Adobe has a huge corner in the market and any competition has a huge hill to climb.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      100%. Frankly, if you're not a studio photographer with your camera tethered to the desktop version of C1, I don't see many reasons to choose C1 over LR. Maybe if you shoot with Sony and therefore really need good colour management 😆 Even the "better Fujifilm RAW sharpening" discussion, I proved several times that it's mostly a myth caused by missing information.
      If and when the iPad app will become a real contender then maybe. But by then LR will have been further improved so...
      But I still use both in my work so I'll keep monitoring the development and hope for the best.

    c1 also has the advantage, like the desktop version for the Fuji x Trans sensors?

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      As I mention in the video, that "advantage" is mostly down to knowing how to edit. C1 interprets the raw file upon opening while LR leaves the edits to you, that's why they look different. And also most people don't really know the differences in sharpening. Please check the link to my blog post as well.
      C1 has one real advantage that is the business partnership with Fujifilm (so for example the film simulations come from Fuji, while in LR they are an educated guess by Adobe).

    Since you can’t set your camera profile to begin with, you have to start with an incorrect profile. It feels like this app is useless besides sorting your photos?

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      The profile should be recognised automatically upon importing the image. It's not ideal as you may want to change it afterwards but the photo should have all the correct settings applied, profile included. Is it not the case for you?

    • @ludo1632
      @ludo1632 2 года назад +1

      @@fabienb Unfortunately the profile that is provided by C1 for my camera (M11) has incorrect colors so I have to use the one I created. In general, using profiles that came with a software (C1 or Lr) is not good idea. Also many event photographers working with Fuji highly depends on profiles.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      That's unfortunate. Hopefully there will be a profile selector added soon. I also found this frustrating at times because I may shoot many different subjects in a day and I don't always change film simulation accordingly in camera: often on my Fuji I'm on Classic Neg for Street Photography, then I may stay out for sunset when I would need Astia and perhaps try Acros later at night but I'm too lazy to switch on the go... So yeah, a selector would be great (and frankly it should be a given). But C1 always applied the correct one used when shooting in my case.
      I hope yours get added soon

    Quick update on the improvements since the first beta release:
    There have been quite a few additions/fixes:
    - Access to the Cloud Transfer feature
    - Added grid for rotation.
    - Added finer rotation steps
    - Added rotate-90°-left button in Crop tool.
    - Added Keystone tool.
    - An added gesture to zoom to 100%.
    and of course, fixed a number of bugs and other improvements
    Getting better :)

    Do I need another subscription to use it or is the Pro Version enough?

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      I haven't received many details about that and it's all free while in beta but it seems the subscription will be separate. I assume if you're already on Pro there may be a discount, hopefully included 🤞🏻

    Dude, where is the tethering on this app? The most waited feature, they are fcking kidding...

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  2 года назад

      First of all, I don't think a first release of an app does necessarily includes every possible feature. There's always room for improvement.
      In the specific, I'm not sure this is entirely a C1 problem but rather a limitation of the iPad and iOS in general that requires a workaround. IOS is a very closed environment, for safety reasons, and tethering could be hard to achieve without a dongle or using unstable bluetooth. There are discussions going on but nothing set in stone.
