Thanks for your honest review. I returned my one blade because I had the same problem on my neck. It was the worst razor burn I have ever had. The company was wonderful and they even called me to see if they could help with any questions on technique but after multiple attempts I still could not get a clean shave without the burn so I returned it for a full refund without any difficulties. I purchased the least expensive “1 Blade” to try it out on the strength of the “Feather Blades” as I’ve used a Merkur “Futur” for years and find “Feather Double Edge Blades” to be excellent. So I tried the “1 Blade” and found the same qualities that you described regarding packaging and design, very stylish and I like the feel in my hand. I was initially unimpressed with the method of inserting the blade, but figured that had they done it more solidly fixed, some people might have difficulty inserting and removing the blades. I’d read their copy regarding the sharpness of the blade and my excellent opinion of Feather’s Double Edged blades, but I don’t find the 1Blade version as effective as their Double Edged ones. I find it takes me twice as long to get an acceptable shave with this system. I’m so used to the excellent results from the Merkur “Futur” and it’s endlessly adjustable (variable between six basic positions) that I find it hard to replicate, regardless of what spring load I put on the 1 Blade system. I actually made an adaptor, a thin piece of soft rubber “Shim” to stabilize the blade. It seems to work much better, but still not as close a shave as my Merkur:-)
Thanks for the vlog Matt. I can’t afford or justify the cost of this razor. The lack of blade choice is also an issue for me. But if you have the bucks, and are not put off by the lack of blade choice, then this seems to be an exceptionally well engineered shaving product you should purchase.
Matt, TRUST THE PIVOT and use even, longer stokes with gentle pressure and you will get AMAZING better shaves. Think its more like the gillette fusion, where your in charge of pressure and navigation. Your using it like single-edges where you need to get the angle, instead use it with some pressure and aim for longer even passes and trust the pivot! Its not the optimal razor for buffering IF YOU LIFT IT ON/OFF as it isnt enough time for it to get the optimal angel for the head/blade. Just play it flat, press gentle and do a longer, even stroke without removing. Your reward will be love as you re-discover how to get a better shave with the oneblade 1/2/core
Agreed. Coming from a mainly cartridge razor user background, I'd likely cut and nick myself with my first attempts at using a Traditional single or DE razor, given the difference in required technique. So not surprised the reviewer got nicked. Then again, I was never successful, no matter how much I tried, shaving with a DE razor and never getting nicks or cuts when I first started shaving. Which is why I embraced cartridge razors when they came out. True, I swapped skin irritation and razor burn with the cartridge razors for the nicks and cuts of the DE razor, but that's another story... Oh and yes, - I have dipped my toe into the One Blade world with a hybrid. Very, very happy with it.... I can get BBS with any of my cartridge razors with ease and speed. But, even with the greatest of care and prep, skin irritation is still an issue in most shaves to some degree. With the One Blade Hybrid, I can get a BBS shave - not as quickly and speedily as a cartridge razor, - but with almost zero skin irritation and with every shave. The only real downside is that's more of a time consuming experience if one is in a hurry to shave and get out the door so to speak. One needs to make it a luxury experience and take ones time. So for a fast, quick and convenient shave in a hurry, that's still BBS, and with the compromise of putting up with some skin irritation the Cartridge razor is my go to choice with say a 3 or 4 day growth. If the requirements are for a daily shave, then for the best balance of convenience and speed, zero skin irritation, and coupled with a very good and very close, but not BBS shave, my Braun series 7 & 9 electric razors are my shaver of choice. But, for that luxurious shave, where you really do want the best combination of BBS shave and zero skin irritation, and want to take time and luxuriate in the shaving experience, then in my many years of mainly wet, but also dry shaving the One Blade is it. More so I might add, than any DE razor I've tried. Such that I've also decided to add the Genesis. Yes it's expensive and I doubt it will shave better than the Hybrid. But, it's also beautifully engineered and made, and a razor for life. Again, am very, very happy with it and would recommend it without question.
Matt, your comments are spot-on regarding your experience with the One Blade. I have one, the $19 Core version. My experiences are identical. I need three passes to achieve a close shave. And yes, some of the techniques seem counterintuitive as opposed to safety and straight razor techniques. Don't worry, though. I am still your best customer!! Great video.
Nice review. I's what I needed to know in regards to spending $400 on a razor that might be more irritable and have a greater chance of me cutting myself in the process. You saved me a whole lot of ching! Thanks.
Matt if you read the brochure, you do not need to stretch your skin, if you put pressure on the tip of the handle at the back of the head it makes the razor find the right angle. The information works
I use a company based in Scotland for my shaving products and they are very helpful with all the products. They did say to allow yourself 4 or 5 shaves with the Genesis before making a judgement on it
I got a Oneblade Genesis for free. I don't have the densest stubble, but it's super thick and coarse and generally tough to shave. The Oneblade did a decent job with it, and I managed to get no irritation, which I was worried about after watching a lot of reviews. I barely put any pressure on my skin since most people said the weight should do the trick. It's not super smooth, but I think it's a little better than my Tatara. Not sure I'd want to pay full price for it.
Have been using this razor for several years. to enjoy the razor you need to lay the face of the razor down on your face. Also, I only get two shaves per blade or else they feel rough. With a fresh blade its an excellent shave. The plastic version of the One Blade did not hold up well, and I found the blade falling through the razor so I gave up on it. Overall it is an excellent razor.
Hey Matt, I found that unlike a typical DE/SE you actually need to apply pressure and make the razor head pivot against your face. With this style of shaving, I don't think buffing works well, but rather medium to longer strokes with just enough constant pressure to continuously align the head against your face. Did they change the packaging? Mine came in a nice leather, hand stitched case. Was this one of the razors they were offering at a discount at the BSW3? Maybe that is why the packaging is different since the price was substantially discounted. Anyways, nice video. I just subscribed to your channel recently and appreciate your high production value. Look forward to more. Steve
Steve M the packaging is like that because he purchased a refurbished model at big shave west, not a brand new razor. Because of the reduced price he purchased it at, it did not come with the leather case, stand, etc.
The newly introduced OneBlade Core is a more affordable version. And I've seen posts by current OneBlade Owners that they'll buy a OneBlade Core for travel purposes. Given the proprietary blade, how does one travel with it? As I understand it, when flying on airlines, you're not allowed to have razor blades in your carry-on (SE or DE). So, if the ONLY bag you take with you is a carry-on, then you cannot take the Oneblade SE blades. So, how do you arrange for such a specific SE blade for the razor once you've reach your destination? At least with a traditional safety razor, I'm pretty sure you can find a drug store or big box store in your destination city that sells DE blades. Or, is the solution to always check your bag?
reminds me of my GEM razors....which I find shave really well and for the price difference.....I can have a collection of GEM/Ever Ready/Star etc. vs 1 OneBlade!
At first I thought this razor was stupid, I didn’t understand the pivoting head on a single edge razor because it promotes the user to add pressure, which is one of the biggest wet shaving no-no’s. But the more I experimented, the more I found that adding pressure is necessary, and the pivot is actually really functional. I know it’s weird, if you have ever cut yourself bad with a DE razor it might be difficult to bring yourself to do it, but trust me, this razor is so forgiving that I can’t cut myself unless I actually try.
And here I was worried it was a Phillips one blade review 😂 I find with feather blades, the more shaves I try to squeeze out of a blade the more aggressive I need to get to get a close shave after the buttery second shave.
These blades were originally made for shavettes in barber shops. That's probably why they only last a single shave, they're meant to be disposed of between customers.
Not sure how you can give it 3.5 stars when you clearly had issues with its performance. When you lined up the Pros and Cons there was only one thing on the Pro side related to performance: "Great for cartridge converts". IMO, the other pros were mostly irrelevant although I will admit, weight, balance, appearance do play into my choice of razors. All in all, your review was quite helpful in pointing out the razor's drawbacks which appear to be too many to justify the stratospheric price. Thanks Matt!
Matt, a few more thoughts: As a consumer I look for value in anything I purchase. For me, value is a function of cost and quality. When the cost exceeds what's delivered, it gives me pause. I own 38 DE and SE razors along with two SR's. I only mention this because to invest in the One Blade price point it must dwarf any other razor I own and I have many razors that deliver a fine smooth shave in the $30-$70 price range (although I do own a Blackland Razor at close to $200 and several vintage razors). I don't doubt that the production costs of One Blade can be justified but it damn well better exceed just about anything out there. All this said, I will withhold any final judgement until I actually try One Blade perhaps in a pass around and consider first hand experience from others.
Hopefully the performance and price tag of the $50 OneBlade Core is enough to make this product a success. Maybe even inspiring other blade manufacturer's to make suitable blade alternatives at a lesser price point.
$400?!? sheesh thanks for making these videos. I came across a Gold 66' Aristocrat at a garage sale for $0.25 last week. I may be getting sucked in to the vintage razor world and your videos have been very informative!
The OneBlade Core is the crappiest razor I've ever owned. I got a great deal on it, and purchased it before I discovered OneBlade's absurd WTG-ATG-XTG procedure. Here's what works for me: I lack the patience and don't want to expend the time and energy to follow OneBlade's recommendation, so I quickly shave with the OneBlade in the shower, then get out of the shower, dry myself, and run my electric shaver over my face to get all the whiskers the OneBlade missed. As soon as I've used up all those short-lived Feather blades, I'm pitching this thing. As for those Feather blades: all the metal of a double-edged blade, but only one edge. Talk about waste...
Hi Matt. Thank you for this review. There has been a few reviews of this product on RUclips. From what I can tell, the idea of this razor design is to place the razor head on your skin surface and apply pressure before making a long stroke. Yes, all the bad habits of a cartridge razor. IMHO, it is a SE designed to feel like an Atra...an expensive one. Plenty of place in the market for this design, just not everyone's cup of tea. Again, thanks for your honest review.
BTW.... from your review....the instructions I got were different than you performed. Also... I paid $79 and that model was great and well balanced. No need to pay the higher price... so everyone is getting a knee jerk reaction. No need to pay for the premium model you can get great value with their base model. I am enjoying mine. Not sure how you can cut yourself either, Amazing flexnhead.
Robert Gray, the fact that I would have to buy them from Japan and have them send here makes them proprietary. Regular blades are for sale in many shops all over the woelde. And from many brands.
If you review the OneBlade shaving diagram at 2:29 it appears you're not using enough pressure to let the razor give you a consistent shave throughout your beard growth -- instead of using it like a standard safety razor. Hopefully the $50 OneBlade Core razor will be very successful and inspire numerous blade manufacturers to make cheaper blade alternatives for this razor.
I want to know who would want to transition, but would spend $400 plus the cost of such specific blades that you can't buy from multiple companies. With that much money to spend with such little reasoning, I think I have a statue to sell.
Thanks for this review. I've had a cautious eye on this one for a while. For the price point of the razor and, of course, the blades it should have knocked your socks off. I'll pass.
Maybe they look better in person but in photos and on camera it just looks like a shiner version of a disposable with a hollow cut out. Not nearly as handsome as the beautiful gleaming solid silver of traditional safety razors. Razors a tenth of the price look so much nicer to me than what I'm seeing here.
Sorry, I should have said, more attractive packaging.... a nice black box. I have moved back to double-sided blades for now and use my OneBlade for a "quick" shave.
They come with proprietary blades. So you are very limited in places where you can buy them. And the price is up to them. Also if the company ever stops making the razor (or bites the dust), they might stop making the blades.
Every man's face and shaving preferences are different. This will work for some. I used mine for a while and haven't touched it since. There are far better razors out there for my face and preferences. But very nice review.
Nice overall review but, I think the packaging review was useless. In fairness to One Blade, they mention you (learning the straight-blade method/angle) and your face need a few weeks or, 21 days, to really get used to this shaving method. They do have a 30 day return policy to support that. Also, they highly recommend their products- a pre-shave oil, their brush, a shave lather as well as an after shave which got great reviews but, of course are also expensive. It sounds all nice and dandy but, for the price and the proprietary razor issue, I think I would pass. Also, I am curious to know what is the difference to One Blade's $129.00 shaving package as compared to the $399.00 package. Is the $129.00 package a lesser-quality razor??? I'll stick with Dollar Shave.
Hobbist wet shavers hate the Oneblade, because it takes all the guesswork out of a BBS shave. I wasted years, looking for nirvana. Gillette, Blackland, Timeless, Gem. All worked well, provided my technique was just right. If not, burn city. Astra, polisilver, 3 kinds of Gillette and more. Oneblade ended all that. No more wasted time, making a hobby, trying to get a BBS, irritation free shave. Can only use one kind of blade. That's ok. It works great. Enjoy your hobby. I'll enjoy perfect shaves with my Oneblade. Matt hates this razor, because he doesn't sell it and after you get one, there's no need to piss away any more money on anything else
Couldn’t agree more. Having experienced DE razors in my youth, a return to that world of guesswork with multiple handles and blades trying to get the ‘perfect’ shave is not for me. Not being totally happy with cartridge razors and having read lots of reviews I made the jump to a one blade hybrid. For a wet shave, provided you take the time to do all the before and after prep, it can give a BBS shave with almost zero skin irritation. Job done basically. Very happy.
Good honest review, but perhaps if you had concentrated on the shave itself without having to describe it every two seconds you could have accomplished a better feel. All new razors will fail to perform their best, it is human factor, kind of a learning curve.
Just not impressed. Flexible heads are and always have been a gimmick, and not just that they include more parts to wear and break. Learn the angles, perfect your shave. There's no other way. Nice honest review.
The shave of a DE with the cost and limitations of a cartridge system. That is just what I'm looking for. If they would have made it take regular DE blades they may have a better chance but dedicated blade well that remove one of the great advantages of DE vs cartridge.
Of course he would say that he has his own high end adjustable de razor he sells his adjustable razor isn’t great either Why would he make his razor not click and set on the adjustment level you want it like the fat boy or slim when your shaving with it you accidentally move the adjustable knob all over the place With all the forethought and how great quality his razor is you think he would make the adjustable knob click insert and lock into in place
5 out of 5 packaging ? I don't shave w/ that . save 150.00 and reduce the packaging gimmick . MIM might break down/tarnish over time compared to Billet Stainless.
You're not using it properly. It is not a safety razor, the pivoting head will find the right angle on its own. Should of done some research before using it.
ilia djondric you are spot on with your comment here! I have the genesis v2 and out of all my razors, it’s the only razor I can go across my neck against the grain with and have no irritation. Maybe the v2 is different from the one Matt is using, but I can’t even imagine cutting myself with my oneblade 😅 it’s impossible! It’s moron proof (no offence Matt)
I love his channel but I feel like he will always have a biased view of it’s not a straight or DE razor, he doesn’t keep a lather like he normally would with his other razors, he was kind of half assing his technique. Not trying to be that guy but it’s kind of obvious, am I right?
One question... why do so many wet shavers have mustaches and goatees? If wet shaving is so much better, the. Why avoid the most difficult areas? Serious question...having said that I stick a straight razor or electric ⚡️ shaver.
@@RazorEmporium I grew various beards, moustaches and goatees when I started shaving, as I hated the nicks and cuts, along with the time involved with DE razors to get a BBS shave.
I didn't like it at first, thought I'd wasted a bunch of money and it just sat there. Over a period of 16 months and around the 6th shave with the right technique the problem areas on my face are no longer a problem. The area on my neck which I need to attack with a DE from 6 different directions, don't even have to think about it. The area on my cheek where I had a rash a decade ago which I need to go over a lot but still ends up a little rough/bumpy after an R41 shave, smooth as silk and looking visibly smoother/cleaner. I usually see people using it like a standard single blade (which it's still effective as) but when used with the push glide, for me at least, it offers a smoothness all my other razors don't quite do with zero irritation. Just feel it's getting a bit of a bad rap on here when I think it's one of the good ones performance wise. That being said even the 1st razor I bought (R89) which didn't do much for me at the time and prompted me to invest in other items can now give an excellent shave so I guess experience counts for a lot too.
oh come on you use so much water for one shave its idiotic. you remove 2 hairs and waste 2dcl of water. maybe you need a new sink instead of new razor. they invented a sink that can hold water too. you just fill it up with water did you know that?
this isn't subliminal selling is it ? no disrespect to you sir , but there seems a push to shove this down peoples throats - i would rather buy a gillet multiblade cheap razor - same outcome . opps sorry , the plastic razor by gillette is also cheaper.... the novelty of this razor will be long forgotten a year from now . I can understand the hardcore attitude from some - but then they payed $400.00 for it.... Q.E.D ? - I like your review sir , quite honest , i stand my my comment :O) thanks again .
NOTE: DO NOT USE double edge shaver #1 you will look old in no time #2 the blade carves your face skin vs. shave it.. #3 use 4 bladed disposal razor for seamless comfortable smooth shave. DOUBLE EDGE SHAVNG is like (someone) pulls you on the ground with rope ( it is very painful ands damaging). Get 4 wheels and roll smoothly...

Or, is the solution to always check your bag?
travel, Im getting buried with mine!
answer is, checked luggage is fine. You cant take it on as carry on though
reminds me of my GEM razors....which I find shave really well and for the price difference.....I can have a collection of GEM/Ever Ready/Star etc. vs 1 OneBlade!
I know it’s weird, if you have ever cut yourself bad with a DE razor it might be difficult to bring yourself to do it, but trust me, this razor is so forgiving that I can’t cut myself unless I actually try.
lol! when I heard "one blade", I thought you were reviewing the Philips oneblade
awesome honest video mate 👍 might check out the one blade core
Paul Francolini valid points. I felt it did great on my cheeks, despite the need for repeat strokes.
$400?!? sheesh
thanks for making these videos.
Thank you for your review on this. :)
I believe you're supposed to use more pressure and let it pivot.
Neptune51 junk
P I V O T
I own one it's honestly not bad
BTW.... from your review....the instructions I got were different than you performed. Also... I paid $79 and that model was great and well balanced. No need to pay the higher price... so everyone is getting a knee jerk reaction. No need to pay for the premium model you can get great value with their base model. I am enjoying mine. Not sure how you can cut yourself either, Amazing flexnhead.
Also... I used very little shave cream as it whipped up well. I was surprised at how much you used....
I love my one blade.
Can you use any standard de razor blade or is there only one specific blade that works?
@@robertgray9802 proprietary blades. You have to buy them from the same company that makes the Oneblade razor.
MrPleers you can buy and import from Japan. They are not proprietary for this razor.
Dear Matt, what is your favourite double edged razor?
Rex ambassador :) Gillette executive
Oneblade are amazing..
I want to know who would want to transition, but would spend $400 plus the cost of such specific blades that you can't buy from multiple companies.
With that much money to spend with such little reasoning, I think I have a statue to sell.
My thoughts exactly , As I have some ocean beach front property for sale here in Kansas ! 😉😉😉
Thanks for this review. I've had a cautious eye on this one for a while. For the price point of the razor and, of course, the blades it should have knocked your socks off. I'll pass.
I would like to try one but probably won't purchase one. Not a fan of no blade options. Kinda makes like a cartridge razor.
Price is crazy
Mine came in even better packaging!
Sorry, I should have said, more attractive packaging.... a nice black box. I have moved back to double-sided blades for now and use my OneBlade for a "quick" shave.
Matt you're looking handsome buddy sorry about that cut on your neck but you're telling me that razor does not use the standard de blade?
They come with proprietary blades. So you are very limited in places where you can buy them. And the price is up to them. Also if the company ever stops making the razor (or bites the dust), they might stop making the blades.
Any chance of a review of the Ever Ready 'Streamline' versus a modern single edge?
possibly though I'm not a big fan of SE razors. But we will keep it in mind.
Every man's face and shaving preferences are different. This will work for some. I used mine for a while and haven't touched it since. There are far better razors out there for my face and preferences. But very nice review.
Does it feel like a cartridge razor?
Where can I find these
Hobbist wet shavers hate the Oneblade, because it takes all the guesswork out of a BBS shave.
Carlos Gandara yes I noticed that too, also it was like he was afraid to shave with it. 😂
How do I remove the blade?
So they are still using proprietary razors? And this handle is $400? and it still nicks your neck? And you actually recommending it? Ok....
Just not impressed. Flexible heads are and always have been a gimmick, and not just that they include more parts to wear and break. Learn the angles, perfect your shave. There's no other way. Nice honest review.
therealchickentender there are other ways...grow a beard or use a straight, even both!!! :). This is a great razor, nothing wrong with a pivoting head
And proprietary blades. Another reason for me not to buy one.
Your watch is very chic. What is what?
Would be a more accurate test if you shaved the stache.
I've heard that before ;)
@@RazorEmporium Must be a reason why👍
For $400 it should be forged!!
Out of solid diamond...
The shave of a DE with the cost and limitations of a cartridge system. That is just what I'm looking for. If they would have made it take regular DE blades they may have a better chance but dedicated blade well that remove one of the great advantages of DE vs cartridge.
Wrong angle and wrong pressure so hard to rely on this review.
tension spring..wooww.
feather blades still cut my skin
I love my oneblade how can you give a honest review after only a couple of shaves
kenneth w. Davis cause it’s junk
*when you're shaving (contraction of "you are," not possessive)
I don’t know how you can cut yourself with a oneblade 😅 it’s not designed like a traditional razor and shouldn’t be used like one.
olly very easy. junk

I love my collection of DE, SE and shavettes, they are the only way to shave, giving the best shave of all. Gimmicky things are really not for me.
Not much of a review with a guy with a beard. Try under your nose, lips, chin and we'll talk.
Nice review I think I will pass.
One question... why do so many wet shavers have mustaches and goatees? If wet shaving is so much better, the. Why avoid the most difficult areas? Serious question...having said that I stick a straight razor or electric ⚡️ shaver.
It's possibly because the types of people looking to shave differently are also into experimenting with their look and facial hair. Possibly!
Joe Edwards what if someone likes to maintain some beard and also have the shaving experience everyday?
@@RazorEmporium I grew various beards, moustaches and goatees when I started shaving, as I hated the nicks and cuts, along with the time involved with DE razors to get a BBS shave.
Not a fan of se razors don’t feel as smooth as de
I'll stick with my Sensor Excel thanks (unless they stop making them, in which case I'll grudgingly move "up" to the Mach 3)
$400 for a cardboard box packaging? 😂😂😂
$400 for a razor??? Must have lost your mind.
Not to mention the proprietary blades.
I would rather buy two Rex ambassadors instead
Not sure why this is 399$ its shaves worse than a mach 3

Takes proprietary blades. And that's the problem.
Lol no way do most people take this long to shave.
You are not using it correctly. You need more pressure and longer strokes.
That beeing said those prices are a joke. Never going to buy it 😂
No thanks
you have a massive neck
Larry King I'll take that as a compliment :) - I am 6'8" tall
ffs, you don't need to wash the razor for every tiny stroke you take.
You do with this one.
oh come on you use so much water for one shave its idiotic. you remove 2 hairs and waste 2dcl of water. maybe you need a new sink instead of new razor. they invented a sink that can hold water too. you just fill it up with water did you know that?
You should waste a bit more water
this isn't subliminal selling is it ? no disrespect to you sir , but there seems a push to shove this down peoples throats - i would rather buy a gillet multiblade cheap razor - same outcome . opps sorry , the plastic razor by gillette is also cheaper.... the novelty of this razor will be long forgotten a year from now . I can understand the hardcore attitude from some - but then they payed $400.00 for it.... Q.E.D ? - I like your review sir , quite honest , i stand my my comment :O) thanks again .
