Hotel Paradox sounds really unique and inspiring. I'll definitely stay there next time I visit the town. I especially like the "cons" elements.

Hi Chris, awesome video review of the Hotel Paradox. The Hotel was originally a Holiday Inn for some years than used as dorms for UCSC for many more years. You might want to try The Dream Inn its got the best view of the Bay. You can see the Boardwalk & 3/4 mile Santa Cruz Wharf out the balcony area. It’s a real pricy Hotel but does have interesting theme rooms & floors. PS You can easily walk to the wharf & get a dinner at one of the many restaurants like my favorite one named Gilda’s.

Great review! I've stayed in many hotels, and I never had a power outage occur in one yet. I'm sure it will happen to me sooner or later. One thing I don't like about the room was the fact that the shower area only had a partially-closed glass curtain. I stayed at the Sheraton in Hamilton, Ontario which has something similar, and water always seems to get outside the shower.
Yeah.. the power outage was definitely a unique experience.. guess that's bound to happen staying in enough hotels
Scottman895 Travel the half shower glass is horrible at hotels,it’s like they want you to get water everywhere,lol!
We stayed there in 2018 and had a similar experience. But you should know that they offer a drop off/pick up car service within a 3 mile radius so, if you want to go to the boardwalk, they will drop you off and pick you up. It is not advertised and I did mention to them that they should because it was quite convenient. Also, our housekeeping service was outstanding. The kids brought their stuffed animals and every time the room was cleaned, they were arranged on the bedding uniquely. You should’ve also mentioned that the pool is only open to minors until a certain time. Can’t remember if it’s 9 or 10 but after that, it’s adults only!

Paradox has lots of Santa Cruz quirky events. For example, today is the "Deep End Pride Pool Party". I second the suggestion for Dream Inn for upscale boutique with convenience to the wharf. If you want really nice, I love the Chaminade. You'd have to drive to everything not in the resort, but you'd be spending about the same ammount of time in the car as you did at the Paradox. My personal favorite might not be to your liking. Sunny Cove Motel. Every room has a lousy view, but I don't spend my vacations looking out hotel rooms! I like that I can save money by not eating out with the kitchenette, and it has access to a nice family beach that only the locals seem to know about. Ocean Echo has the same beach, more upscale, beautiful views... and with the price to match.

I had booked a flight and cheap motel for the week of Thanksgiving, and had to cancel today after hearing about travel restrictions and 14 day quarantines for interstate travel. Having decided to tour Santa Cruz on RUclips since I can't make it down there this time, I came across this video. Thanks for this review, and I'll take a look at some other of your videos also.

What are the prices?
I'm local and like to do cocktails or dining at the Paradox. They also have some nice events. This hotel is considered one of our trendier spots in town because we're sort of just a modest little beach town that's growing because of the overflow from Silicon Valley (btw, it's pronounced Sili-con, not cone).

Have you been there since the redesign? I enjoyed cocktails by their pool this summer and it was nice.
We've stayed at the Beach Street in Santa Cruz and would reccomend that.

When I hear the housekeeping service was inconsistent that’s a deal breaker for me. Bad housekeeping service has a high likelihood of being unsanitary. Hope you didn’t get sick.
I'm suprised you stay in any hotels...take a blue-light to a hotel room and you'd be surprised at what residues you'll find on the walls, furniture, and in the rug. I mean, what do you think most couples do in hotel rooms?
@@jonnieinbangkok I always check the sheets and I take wipes and wipe down surfaces I will touch. But no, I don't feel great about hotels in general. I've seen the hidden cam footage of housekeepers and it sickens me.

I’m surprised you even gave it a 3.5 stars, quite a few cons this hotel has.
We debated 3 or 3.5... it got the extra .5 due to the lack of any better hotel in the area
