given by how long it takes to create a design and put a car into production, both of these cars probably started their design life several several years ago so this is pure coincidence :)
As someone who is normally exclusively interested in coupes, sedans, hatchbacks, I'm much more interested in the Crown Sport than the current Crown that the USA is getting.
The crown cross the US is getting is an an absolute failure imo. Worse than the Avalon it’s replacing. Hopefully the crown sport comes to make up for it.
@@codyaltman29 Lol sure hope not. I didn't say I'd buy either of the Crowns. But the Sport is more interesting. You'll still have the support of my monetary vote for a sedan here in a couple years friend.
I feel bad for Toyota for people calling it “looks like Purosangue” because Toyota revealed Crown Sport 6 months earlier than Purosangue, in fact the exterior design itself came out as early as Dec 2021.
Completely agree that Toyota/ Lexus need to adopt more powerful rear motors on these more premium 2.5l hybrid vehicles… helps differentiate from the RAV4 and justify the premium you pay for it
I saw at least three new Crowns and a couple Priuses day before yesterday. The Crown has a lot of presence when you see it in person on the street, and it looks way better in person. Looks like they are popular. I think this new Crown will definitely be popular.
That’s funny. Even though I’ve seen only one crown cross in the US so far, I’v heard lots of people say that it’s a sales flop because of how ugly it was Hopefully it does well enough so Toyota sends over the crown sport
@@faheemabbas3965 I hope so too. I also think the Crown is a bit ugly, but it’s definitely much better than a BMW. Also, it much better seeing it in person.
Absolutely, ASAP bring the Sport in and the Estate to follow. Don't get why the lifted sedan beat out the Sport. But what I don't understand is there seems to be the Sport as a BEV as well,. And yes, put the more powerful electric motor in the back.
+1 You said it all perfectly! The sedan/crossover has been a disappointment and a poor substitute even for the outgoing Avalon. That had a certain amount of class, if underdeveloped from what it could/should have been. I'm familiar with the historic Crown name, but if I hadn't seen that in print and spoken word on RUclips, I (and those I've spoken to) would never have associated the two in function, form or purpose... completely apples and oranges, and the current U.S. Crown not exhibiting or exuding even a hint of luxury. You and Kirk are spot-on about encouraging the better rear axle. This needs to be full on AWD, no pretend system. Perhaps dating myself--old fart--I'm not into the matte at all, I think that it is a fad that will come and go, that will look tired quickly regardless ( I predict owners fairly quickly using that as a basis for wrapping)... nor does the two-tone red and black interior combo that emphasizes the black do much for me. I'm not a red person but the reverse would be okay if the right luxury red, and not too much black for the remaining, just door accents and upper dash at most. All black as depicted in the rear seat shot pretty dour looking, particularly with the otherwise sporty rear quarter panels limiting interior light. Lighter gray or saddle interiors would be great. Exterior wise, I think a conservative medium-dark green (nothing 'Oz ') or gray-blue would be great in either the Sport and/or Estate form.
If we aren't getting the Crown Sport here in the States, I'd very much like Toyota to make a Prius Cross that looks just like Crown Sport inside and out, seeing as they have a very similar design language. I love the new Prius, it just needs a bit more ground clearance for the bumpy driveways and winter time. Something that looks as beautiful as the Crown sport is one of the only cars I'd trade in my GR86 for
Kirk!!!!! This is the DAILY I've been waiting for!!! Man, I hope Toyota brings this to the U.S.!!!! There really is many affordable sporty UV which look enthusiast oriented! This knocks it out the park and runs the bases for you! And please offer a turbo'd petrol variant for at least a few years???! Thanks Man. ✌🏽❤✊🏽
Gettem' Kirk!! I like the fired-up side of Kirk! I'm with you a 1000%. Bring them new Crowns to the United States. Especially the Prime variants. I was hoping the Venza would bring its Harrier to the United States but if the Crown is available I would get that instead!!
I don’t think the crown we get looks bad, it just doesn’t look as good as the Crown Sport. I saw one lowered with side skirts and a front lip and it looked really good. I just feel the crown we get rides a little too high
As Lexus product planner i would crunch the numbers grafting the hammer head front clip onto the LC for a mid cycle refresh. I know its already got years on it but i think it would look even better than everything else simply because you already have that super low hood to wheel ratio missing on 99% of the cars out there. You know the ability for the hood to dive deep off the wheels.
I always thought Toyota design details were very similar to what Ferrari has been doing lately. The new Prius headlights looked just like the SF90. This is the final nail haha!
It’s more of accidentally looking alike rather than copying. Neither brand is copying the other, they just have coincidentally produced cars that look alike. Like in F1 when designers work in secret to produce completely different cars that set the same exact laptimes
I have never been a fan of Toyota design. They are usually either boring or awkward. However, this latest Prius has changed my mind, and it looks like the Crown Sport has taken it to a whole new level. Toyota can have my money if they bring the Sport to the US.
I’ve live in a few different countries. The American cars we get in the states are normally bland versions of the same car they sale in Japan and Europe. It we nice to have the newer Japanese styled vehicles for once. Even the mini vans in Japan was super comfortable and more stylish then our boring vans.
Id buy that. Im looking for something that gets better miles per gallon than my Land Cruiser, but want something as comfortable and room for a couple hockey bags (including a goalie bag). Id go for the Sport first, but Id take the wagon too (if the Sport doesnt come).
I love Toyota and drive one myself but they seldom produce stunning looking cars which I instantly get a feeling of wanting one. The last one was 1st gen Prius prime and I own it. I have been looking Lexus NX and RX but they are meh 😕 to me, BUT crown sports is a stunning looking car! I want it over any Lexus except LC.

I hate SUVs, especially soft road only SUVs. But this crown sport is absolutely gorgeous! If I really had to get a SUV, I'd definitely go for this for sure!
6:34 they can’t use a higher powered motor at the back than at the front because once the battery runs out, it will serve as a major drag to the vehicle and the front motor running with the engine will take too much time to charge the batteries up to power the motor. The best thing they can do is incorporate the AWD of the GR yaris and add an electric axle at the back.
I don't buy it. They could make it happen. They are doing it with the 3.5L v6 with the large motor in the back for PHEV Lexus TX 550h+ Just sub out the v6 for i4 and you're good. Volvo has a bigger e-axle in the back on their PHEV too. Not exactly apples to apples but I don't want to give them the easy pass here lol

OR the units you want gone make a lot of money, and they need that flow until one or two years later when they planned it all out to be a wash. My point is you don't know. None of us do. They do what they do for a good reason.
This would be a far more successful design in terms of desirability and ultimately sales versus the current Crown we're getting here in the States. Not sure I'd say it's more handsome than the NX which I think is one of the best looking CUVs out there (always been a fanboy of the spindle grille; yes, I know I'm pretty much alone on that one) but very good nonetheless. I agree it would sell like hotcakes.
This Crown Sport looks amazing! I would love it if this vehicle makes it to the USA! I feel conflicted that Toyota has copied the Ferrari so closely, but it definitely looks great!
@@KirkKreifels I find that hard to believe. After all, Italian car companies are not known for quality/reliability, but they do excel at design. Yet, if true, that’s cool, and I hereby withdraw my objection! Regardless, it’s a great looking design, and I really hope it comes to the US!
Seeing as the US market loves SUVs, idk why we aren't getting the Crown Sport and instead we get the current somewhat goofy looking Crown sedan/crossover. Weird business decision. Maybe the wealthier older crown buyers still prefer a sedan? Even though it's easier for them to climb into an SUV. The Crown Sport is one of the only SUVs I'd ever consider looking at purely because of how beautiful it is.
I think, at least in part, it depends on demand. Toyota/Lexus can't meet all market demands with niche vehicles, plus the the US vehicle market is THE most competitive and saturated one across the globe. Toyota has more SUV competition here than anywhere else, and historically their big SUVs don't sell well here. The Sequoia, LX, and Landcruiser all sold like shit here because they're overpriced for being super dated vehicles- yes, they last a long time with tried and true tech, but they are ostensibly priced despite minimal engineering invest from Toyota/Lexus over the vehicle's 13+ year life cycle. Meanwhile those same fullsize SUVs are big in other markets (and sold out for years) where they don't have the other options we have here.
@@sly9263 But the Crown Sport fits more in the RAV4 range right? Along with competition in that range from other brands. Dimensions comparison are Sport is 4" shorter, 4" longer, 1" wider. So fitting in a marker where Toyota has been very successful BUT maybe eating into some of their own RAV4 sales? By comparison to the Sequoia the Sport is 13" shorter height, 22" shorter length, and 9" narrower.
@@derringera yeah but that compact/midsize market is absolutely saturated- more than any other. Maybe if the RX500h sells well, they would consider it... but I doubt it will. At best we might see the Crown Sport in ultra low volume, but if it's selling better overseas and at production capacity then it would be pointless for them to bring it here, IMO

Yes! Crazy the coincidence...Must have been taking the same shrooms.
This would def be my first Toyota if it comes state side
Interesting. Its the first time I think a Toyota looks very interesting and something I would like to drive as a German.
Kirk, We DEMAND the Crown Estate with the sensible 245 hp Hybrid powertrain at a sensible price! 🤩
Will the Lexus ES at some point come with the upgraded more powerful 2.5 Hybrid drivetrain???
So far from what I am seeing, this is a beauty. Including the interior.
After recent flood here in South Florida, higher ride height is not a bad idea
This Crown Sport looks amazing! I would love it if this vehicle makes it to the USA! I feel conflicted that Toyota has copied the Ferrari so closely, but it definitely looks great!
Ferrari may have copied Toyota. Crown design came first to public.
@@KirkKreifels I find that hard to believe. After all, Italian car companies are not known for quality/reliability, but they do excel at design. Yet, if true, that’s cool, and I hereby withdraw my objection! Regardless, it’s a great looking design, and I really hope it comes to the US!
Same goes for us here in Europe, bring those two models overhere in Holland..
I have seen the crown lifted sedan ,it's nice but I like it in one color
If TMS brings the Sport and Estate to the United States they’ll sell like hotcakes. Starting with me!
that matt grey color 🔥
The Sport will be next car if it comes here to US
Style is improved over the sedan but they should keep it unless they are going to horsepower up the rear 2.5X. 9:51
Will the Toyota Crown Sport be available for the US market?
eventually
1:33 😅 this SUV looks stunning my opinion
would love to have seen a full electric in this model and do away with plug in hybrid
