A Rubber Dam is a thin square sheet of non-latex rubber used to isolate the treatment site from the rest of the mouth. Holes are made in the Rubber Dam to allow the teeth that are to be worked on to be isolated.
Rubber Dam isolation during dental procedures has always been important. But especially now during COVID as it helps to isolate the teeth to be treated from the rest of the mouth.
There are numerous other advantages of a Rubber Dam, of which some are;
- Prevents the tasting and swallowing of dental materials
- Creates a controlled, dry and clean working area
- More predictable and hence longer lasting restorations
components :
rubber sheet
clamp holder "forceps"
clamp
frame
punch
dental floss

Placing the clamp ,followed by attaching the dam sheet to tbe frame and then forcing it into tooth!! My coltene dam sheet would tear everytime I try this for sure..
I learned that a clamp with wings should be put on the rubber dam outside of the mouth. It’s then easier when you put everything at once in the mouth. The reason is the wings are large and when you try to stretch the dam over the wings, it could tear. Then, you have to take everything out of the patient’s mouth and start all over…. And you have a very displeased patient.

Thank you Sir for sharing this. I've seen your videos on the Rubber dam and believe me it has helped me immensely. Thank you again Sir
Just a confusion sir , asked many practitioners this question but no one gave a satisfactory answer to my query.
Sir , is the largest hole punched for any tooth which receives the clamp irrespective of the type of the tooth or we need to select the hole according to the size of the tooth but as a beginner how do you we get the idea that this particular tooth needs this particular hole? For example, Sir , if we're isolating a mandibular incisor, do I need to punch the smallest hole? And for maxillary incisor the second smallest hole and so on? And does this change when they are isolated but not as anchor tooth? Hope you get my question Sir.
Sir I often end up imbalance of the sheet and frame on the patient. It goes more towards on side and I end up with no so good isolation? What could you be the reason Sir . Hope you get time to answer Sir Thank you
👌
How many teeth should be isolated for molar cavity preparation
you can Isolate the desired tooth , and to make it easier 2 teeth is enough
