      I have a very good pc and Rome is very slow, to the point of unplayability. Obviously it's most likely due to the game not being well optimised for modern hardware and operating systems, but as I'm not a game programmer I don't know. I'd love to be able to play it as I do own it and all of its expansions, but I just thought I'd put this out here as information for those thinking of getting it

    This game was such a huge step from the first medival and shogun games, total war has never stepped that high between games again, and probably never will, that's why this game will always be very special to total war players.

    A tip for using pikes aggressively: run them into position about 4-5 feet from the enemy and click "phalanx" or whatever it is while they're still running. They will immediately stop and throw down pikes, which (if you're really close) will knock back enemies for a quick stun. As long as you have them in a fairly good rectangle (no crazy maneuvering, trees, rocks. etc. in the way) with not too many stragglers in the back, it works very well.
    Pikes are legitimately they best units in the game.
    Technique is called "phalanx charge" and I think Heir talked about it way back when, but I used to use it for all my Greek, Seleucid, even German playthroughs.

    FUCK YEAH! I don't think there ever was an actual full Scipii campaign on RUclips. Not a legitimately good one anyway, which is a shame, because Scipii campaign is the most challenging out of all the Roman campaigns and IMO the most fun out of all of them(especially if you let other factions build up).

      meinefressekeineahnung wieichdenkackkanalnennensoll last time I tried it, my finances got completely fucked at first(takes a long time to get to Greece) and navi almost obliterated by pirates. Also, Greece and Macedon seem to pull full stacks out of their ass in a few turns on very hard difficulty. Anyway, it's pretty much obvious that Julii and especially Brutii have it much easier then Scipii, you basically have to take on cities with stone walls early on(Syracuse and Carphage, also if you rush Greece: Athens and likely Corinth or Sparta will have stone walls too) while both Brutii and Julii have rebel cities with no walls nearby.

    • @bavarianpotato
      @bavarianpotato 7 лет назад +1

      Дмитрий Сусов obviously the scipii are the hardest roman faction. Not only because you dont have very easy villages to conquer at first, but also because what you conquer isnt that rewarding. The really great provinces on the map are, with exception of northern italy, located in the east (e.g. greece, asia minor, syria, egypt), while carthage and numidia are just plain desert.
      Well taking over greece may not be easy, but it surely is rewarding

    It took me a long time to find out that Scippii have a third temple for Neptune that requires a port to build. Eventually it gives you access to a special ship called a Corvus Quintrireme.
    Said ship is technically in Barbarian Invasion by complete accident. The devs gave one to the ERE even though they aren't even supposed to be in the game (so you cannot retrain it)

    I'm all for longer episodes. For views you could try a combination of releasing the first five (or whatever arbitrary episode number) episodes as 45 minutes and then increasing the episode length after that to 90 minutes.
    You can edit things out, but don't edit out the actual campaign movements and empire management. I might be in the minority (not sure about that though) but I actual like seeing all of that stuff and it really doesn't take that long if you methodically go through the lists. In your ERE campaign I skip a lot of the battles because the nature of the campaign creates a lot of boring defensive sieges that a viewer has seen a bunch of times. That's an example of things that could have been cut out in newer Total War games.
    As far as things to cut in Rome 1 and Medieval 2, it is actually hard to name things to cut out. I know you like to fight all the battles manually which is good in practice for the player, but you are really methodical which can make the battles unenjoyable to watch. So for a suggestion: cut out battles for Rebel settlements if they have less that 4 units (or whatever number, lower or slightly higher). And cut out battles vs other factions if they have less than 3 units (or whatever number). But really though, Medieval 2 and Rome 1 aren't extremely long games, so increasing the episode length should help make the number of episodes a much better number.
    You have to balance between views and satisfying loyal subscribers that would watch everything anyway. So with longer episodes after episode 5 you will cut the episode number essentially in half (if from 45 minutes to 90), give those loyal subscribers longer videos and all of the content of the campaign.
    As far as the number of campaigns. You currently have 6 campaigns going by my count. The French campaign seems to be almost finished so that is good. The ERE, Seleucid, and Beginning of the End Times have either been going forever, don't have an end in sight, or both. The ERE seems like the next one that will be completely uploaded. I'm not sure about the Shogun 2 blitz.
    I think the time between episodes also contributes to loss in views, the time between the date of first upload also plays a big role in this. So you should really only have 1 mod campaign and/or a This is Total War campaign at one time in order to make sure that longer campaign won't being going for over a year after you uploaded episode 1. You should also make sure you have an episode of that at least every other day or even daily. You seem to have been getting better at this lately, but because you have three of them you have missed uploading some of them.
    Of course the only exception to this could be when a new Total War comes out, then you can probably justify releasing a This is Total War campaign on the new game while continuing to upload the old one.
    In summary: Only do one mod or This is Total War campaign at a time and making sure it does not take over a year to upload. You have six active campaigns which is probably a good number, but three of those are those extremely long campaigns which is dragging you down because they have taken forever to upload.
    Take these suggestions if you want, you probably know this stuff especially about the long campaigns that have been dragging on forever (time wise between date of first upload and episode count). So it will take awhile to see if these changes will be correct until at least two of those campaigns are finished. Honestly if you read through all of this you should be fine because you really are trying to find a good way to get a balance between views and satisfying loyal subscribers.

    awesome vid man ur really good at commentating. Also u were saying that on huge unit scale the path finding is pretty screwy inside towns or cities. I totally agree, even though i like huge unit scale, i find large is the best for campaign. With huge scale, a single unit of spartans can block and entire street or the center forum against an entire army. with large its more balanced. huge scale also makes shit laggy during really big battles and honestly makes micro more difficult because you have to move ur screen so much just to see everyone. Anyway i really dig the campaigns bro, glad to see someone make a quality campaign runthrough in 2017

    About the naming you mention, Cornelius is actually the clan name whereas Scipiones is a branch of the Cornelia family. It's the same case with the Brutii in this game, who actually should have the Junia clan name with Brutus as the branch name. Rome 2 corrected that, among few things...

    You could record a couple of episodes and edit them in to a single video. Then in the description you will give time stamps to the beginning of each episode. You would then upload episodes to youtube, where a single video is infact a batch of 3-5 videos? That way you dont get 100 videos with 5000 views each.
    And if you feel like going the extra mile:
    There could also be a 'menu' that lasts for X seconds at the beginning of each video, where you give links directly to the beginning of each video. While we are at it, you could put a similiar link to the lower right corner of the video which directs the viewer back to the main menu, where he can choose another video.
    You could try it out once and ask for feedback from your viewers.

    Hey Legend, just started this campaign and like everything about it - from the length, to the objectives, aiming to have fun, no exploits etc. It's what I'd do, but haven't the time to play - so prefer to watch!

    I'm an a gressive player and pikes are exelent strike foce, especially when attacking setlements. The trick is to make their formation as wide as the town roads, so they won't brake formation and reform every time you gave them a move order.

    Occasionally I do campaigns only auto-resolving battles. For the Roman houses it doesnt make it particularly more difficult, but campaigns like Parthia or Spain get a lot harder due to it. Using the "broken" features can result in a lot more fun for the gameplay.

    Been buying TW since the very first Shogun. Rome 1 has still never been bettered for gameplay. The AI sucks... but a modded installation of Roma Surrectum or Rome Total Realism was so much better than vanilla and is the best TW experience I ever had. My kids grew up playing that game from about the age of six. They are 19 and 20 now. My eldest did classics at school and when he did his talk about Sparta, he was telling the teacher stuff she didn't even know. Such a great educational incentive.
    Would love to know your thoughts on those mods.

    i did a simular game with the Brutii, where i now (100 years in or something) own all of the map appart from France, germany and Britain, which is still cotrolled by the Julii and Britania. I declared war on the romans about 80 turns into the game, when the Julii were very big, but the Skipii had become breandeath at turn 10 or something, because i took out Carthage and Greece, after which they had no clue where to go next. They where sitting there doing nothing for the remaining 70 turns, and i maniged to kill them in 2 tyrns taking all 4 settlements, leaving 4 complete stacks of them that turned rebel, which the SQPR and the Julii had to waste their manpower on while i was retraining my troops.

    I used to play this game ages ago and I pretty much liked it. Then years later I bought Total War: Rome 2. 9 years between those two games but I think Rome 2 doesn't look ~that~ much better than it's predecessor. And since Rome 2 looked alright when it was released, I think it just shows just how great the original Total War: Rome was. And it seems like graphics is pretty much the only thing that they improved for Rome 2.

    legend i really love your videos,especially for warhammer series,i think ur the best total war youtuber that i ever watched,maybe lionheartx is good too but for strategy i choose u for number 1,maybe you dont care about this lol,but i just to be honest,cause i love seeing your strategy about minimal casualties and big victories and using unique tactics,and i love seeing domination lol,and legends, do you think play "mega campaign" when warhammer 2 came out? it will be new challange for you,conquer old world and new world in one banner of legend's empire hahaha,im a big fan of you,i hope you do that mega campaign,thanks keep making awesome total videos!

    I think part of the problem with the half our episodes is that we binge watch a few episodes that just kinda forget about it after a few days. People who say they don't have 90 minutes are probably just fucking lying, they'll watch some other crap for a few hours after this anyway.

    Can the AI Even start the civil War? I've never had them initiate the civil War because they don't have people's support.

    • @jakehatton2910
      @jakehatton2910 7 лет назад +5

      I think they can because they get messages from the Senate similar to the ones the player gets such as "kill your faction leader" or something. I'm not entirely sure but I think they can instigate the civil war. Would be interesting to see if he really does preserve SPQR or just gets bored of their tomfuckery and smashes them :)

    • @Shrapnel57
      @Shrapnel57 7 лет назад +9

      I've played RTW way over 1000 hrs and I have never seen AI start the civil war. I have always started it myself or they stay allied to the bitter end.

    • @bobonthejob
      @bobonthejob 7 лет назад +4

      On a very rare ocassion they might.. The only way I know of that they can is if they get outlawed by the senate. You could maybe try to get SPQR killed by allowing other barbarians to get near them, and that way make it impossible to get backstabbed by your roman buddies.
