You're a great guy, this game is a classic, after having a disk version of it on my old laptop i rebought the steam version and play it now on my new computer. Its great!
Not really, the game was made so that when someone does his first campaign on hardest difficulty he wouldn't be able to conquer faster than the AI (at least that's what CA thought when making it). Therefore, the roman power would be equal among all 3 factions or maybe an AI roman faction would be stronger than you and start the civil war. However, if someone has done around 50 campaigns (even after 1 or 2) the game is dead easy, you can basically conquer faster than all other factions using hastati and generals.
Every time I hear the plague hell toll, I think back to a comment I made on ep 1 of this series predicting that as fast as he intended to grow his settlements to bring on the reforms, if Legend didn't prioritize building the sanitation chain of buildingings, plague would be an issue as the campaign played out. And sure enough, Legend has multiple huge cities with only basic sewers built in them. I'd riot too if I lived in a city with 30,000 other filthy Romans because there was nowhere to shit but in the streets.
If you notice, the plagues occur in fully built settlements. They are inevitable so that there is population control and so that the player has something to do rather than just wars (city management).
Most of his huge cities are fully built already. It's more of a population check that CA implemented. Once the population gets too high, which is only natural for fully buily settlements far from war, plague brings it down.
Sure, it's inevitable on some level. That's true. You still have to manage squalor to keep it in check and the best way I've found to limit it is to build the sewer-to-city plumbing chain as early in the build order of pretty much any city that's going to grow to be a huge city, especially if it does it quickly as Legend has done here. That said, it is really difficult to keep squalor down when you're importing slaves with every city you conquer in order to pop-boom and rush the reforms. I'm giving this a shot with a new Roman campaign in rtr 1.9 I started last week and I'm having to take it a little bit slower to try and keep squalor in check. It's working but some amount is just going to be inherent. Which to me, means I want all the more to do what I can to halt its progress. Other than the plague, I think he's doing pretty well given the handicap he's placed on himself being the senate's bum boy and all.
@@matth523 Fully build cities in good fertile regions (around the middleterranean sea) just have such a big growth that squalor only brings it to 0 procent growth rate at around 40000 people, plague has a big chance there. What you could do is not develop farming too far, which will keep the natural growth a little bit lower (and use slavery to pump them quickly), with that the max population will be lower (around 25000), however you will lose out on quite some farming income. I think best approach is to just accept plague :)
I know this is 3 years old but, yeah! This is worth waiting for after all the holding back and fighting the other inferior factions & auto-resolved battles.
RTW tries to be a little serious, but the later games have more hidden comedy in them. Medieval 2 has the hilarious general speeches, the Romans in Attila have incredibly racist and hilarious general speeches and some of the building descriptions in Attila are tongue-in-cheek, and I'm pretty sure the dwarves have some good quotes in Warhammer.
Had a barbarian general once that I didn't want, I made him fight by himself trying to get him killed, he ended up being the best general on the map killing several 10-12 stacks by himself before he finally died fighting a full stack. He put a big dent in it though.
I was enjoying the campaign map management. I also expected Legend to have two more legions in Italy. Still, I am really hyped for this. It's probably going to be journey. I just wonder if the Senate ig going to accept the Scipii back to then to just order suicide at every turn after Legend retakes all the settlements. That would be annoying.
I don't get it, why did the senate go to war with him also even tho he went to war with both roman factions, and why did the senate ask him to go to war with the julia when they didn't go to war with the senate?
''Legend choosing a general for one of the best legions in the world'-

Hey

They were kicked out of their homes. Probably fought like demons.
The gods blessed them with powers to take back their holy lands imperator!
I thought I saw a victory. HOW THE HECK DID THAT HAPPEN?!
Now THIS is what I call a civil war
Especially against these urban cohorts and pretorians
There’s something aesthetic about when you end a turn in this game. It’s the little things in this that make it great.

Chill The Wolf stick with the disk version the steam one lags
tank 943 my disk wont work on windows 10, have to get it on steam
just add dx8.dll to your install folder and it runs fine from steam
So the civil war can actually happen, but in order for it to happen you need to make it happen yourself.

456panos I usually use the remove population cheat to fix it. Still haven't mastered the game after 10 years...

Love it when they say prepare for a vacation when they build a fort
Can't tell if you meant that as a joke but it's actually "Prepare fortification" :D
You know I actually had no idea what they were saying.
It just sounded a lot like prepare for a vacation so I just went with it.
I can't blame you. It's the kinda thing that would make sense somewhat and could be in there as a somwhat humorous line.
Deffo gave me a good chuckle

We all mishear things sometimes
7:56, "Ok, so declare on war on these losers!" Legend said it so causally that I laughed so hard😂😂😂

I've been waiting for this for a while, was starting to wonder if it would ever happen. Well fucking done

there's no third civil war in RTW ;)
they're having a party around rome
Rome Total War, where the battle speech is longer than the battle itself.
So it begins...
I was surprised he declined the younger characters that had already built some command
finally i watched some intense battles
