I'd like to ask you, If I'm only ever going to learn one of the languages, should I learn Mandarin or Cantonese? I believe Cantonese would be better for GZ but if I can get around with Mandarin, it will be more useful when I leave GZ in a few years
100% mandarin. only Guangdong province uses Cantonese and Hong Kong, but not even every city in Guangdong uses Cantonese, as some use a local dialect. Mandarin is used by everyone.

Nice to see someone mention Foshan, I used to live there next to 千灯湖, came in 2010 as a FOB laowai left in 2018 with wife and kids. What a life.
I head over there from time to time as I have a couple friends who live there. Foshan is way different than it use to be aswell.

@@2kofficial158 Almost all of them can speak mandarin except for maybe some babies and very old people.
