this thing is awesome! I don't care what anyone says because there are people who spend $38 on a nonfunctional model car. at least this one has potential.
Man thank you again. Once again you picked a perfect video subject. I'm sure there's plenty of us that appreciate this kind of video. I was just looking at one yesterday. Please keep it up ❤
I bought one of these after watching your vid, it just looks so cool! (Also i believe it is a 1983 Hilux (possibly SR5) if anyone’s wondering, just spent a while researching it for authentic classic colour schemes lol😂)
It's 2024, so you probably bought a fully propotional one which is nice, I have one and transformed it into a rusty rebel technical truck. I suggest upgrading to metal drive shaft immediately. I found them on third party websites for $3, TRX4M has higher RPM 180 motors if you want to go faster, but also a lower RPM for higher torque, the 180 motor will fit it with no modding for gearbox so I recommend upgrading the driveshaft and motor to keep the cost low.
I agree, I look forward to the future of this build. I have thought about getting into the micro builds. I love my 1/10 Crawler and 1/10 drift truck, but its nice to have something you can thrash around the home.
I'm going to buy one of these and make it amazing. I don't have any money now, but when I do I'll let you know. It might be something worth watching on my channel.
Theyve improved a lot since this video came out. Theres still room for more improvements but for the price of them there really good, ive got a B14, B16 (the Deuce M35's) the B16 ive modified the cab and bonnet to look like the newer M928, one of my little girls got the B24 and the other has a D12 Mini, they all get broken stuff like springs snapping or getting gears in the axles to slip but there easy to fix
The "servo" is just a motor and gears with a clutch on the end. With only two motor wires, there's no feedback loop to the control board. Its just on or off. By the time you put in electronics to convert it to use a real servo, you may as well pop in a new $5 esc and a receiver. Great vid btw.. inspired me to paint mine :)
Way cool! Love what you did to interior! In my head i remember everyone of those old toyotas with tan interior...haha..And floor mats! Dude so cool! Like everyone else said with some hobby grade electrics itll be a cool little truck..nice job! gotta get me one!
2022 update, the new one's have a servo motor in them already. I just cut the springs to get the ride Hight down also this helped it flex way better the frame is also BLK now I really like this little RC crawler.
It´s astonishing to see what a transformation can be effected with a handful of washers and lots of time. I have the leaf sprung military truck from the same people, and I´m now inspired to go through the suspension and sort it out. The colo(u)r choice for the interior looks superb against the lighter body, and painting the wheels made a huge difference as well : )
Del350K4 I was considering getting one or both of those military trucks myself. Did you get the cab-over model, or the Dodge cab (Deuce-and-a-Half style) model, and did you get the blue, or grey? How does it perform?
First I ordered the M35 in grey. It arrived quickly and has the same non-proportional steering with the noise, surprisingly good proportional throttle response and quite crudely-designed leaf springs. Rather than have one fixed shackle with the other free to swivel in order to compensate for the spring´s length increase as it flattens under load, it has a fixed shackle at one end and a weird compromise setup in which the spring slides against the chassis at the other. I "crawled" with it over reasonable terrain and liked it enough to order the cab-over as well, in green this time. I ordered it straight from China The shipper said it would arrive between the ninth and the eighteenth of January. I contacted him yesterday to say it hadn´t arrived and he immediately offered to either return my money or send me another. I chose to ask for another. I hear they now do a cheaper version with no servo or electronics so people can fit hobby-grade stuff. Perhaps that might be the way to go - the steering "servo" really is horrible.
Del350K4 Good to know, thanks. I wasn't aware of the cheeseball steering system issue until I watched this video; it was just dumb luck that I ordered the Kit version, as I enjoy building things myself. It would be brilliant if they would offer the military trucks in Kit version.
Hey, Calvary - I had a little look and it seems that they do, in fact, do a kit version of the military trucks as well: "Search Results WPL B-24 RC Car KIT Army Green - Geekbuying www.geekbuying.com › Toys & Hobbies › RC Cars $21.99 - In stock Highlights. 4-wheel drive 1:16 scale off-road RC military truck running at up to 10km/h. WPL B-24 2.4G 1:16 4WD Off-road".
I want to get the c14 or the c24 and put the 180 engine and new servo and esc with metal drive shafts but i don't know what truck to get they both look great
I had one of those and got a army truck cut both chassis in half and joined them so i had the hilux cab and the army truck flatbed with leaf springs all round
exactly what I am doing....30amp esc, 2 speed gearbox, full metal gears/pinions/bearings/axles/suspension/driveshafts, brushless motor, 9 gram servo, softer/bigger tires, 2S lipo batt...gonna be sick when its done
@@shome1289 do you have info that you're able to share for these upgrades? I'm very interested in doing the same and need to get a parts list and end cost before I pull the trigger.
@@omicrondec hey buddy, I currentl,y have all the parts I ordered, been torn between an upgraded metal gearbox or another 2 speed...I put a new brushless motor in the 2 speed, it literally crapped out (the gears rounded out instantly) after about 8 seconds of driving it. It's currently (4 months later) in pieces all over my kitchen table. As of right now, I lost interest in getting it to run, it's been nothing but a PITA with broken parts and having to dismantle it completely whenever I wanted to do ANYTHING to it, so I went out and bought a MazdaSpeed Miata 2004 and have been tinkering with that now for the past few weeks LOL In all honesty, these are great trucks, but so far, im into my truck for probably close to 200 bucks and its a pile of scrap parts now. Between the kit version, 2x motors (one wasnt the right size) 2x transmissions/trasfercases, all the little upgrade parts (they fucking add up, let me tell you) it seriously makes more sense to just go for something in the 300-400 dollar range, that's already million times better at crawling, bigger, heavier, tons of aftrermarket support, the list goes on and on. I paid 35$ USD for the kit version which comes with a better motor and servo.... that cost included an aftermarket esc for it.... all I needed was a radio... with a real servo and esc it's a fun little truck
It will that's what I got was the kit but my axles took a shit so I'm going my own way with gear box motor tires everything only thing that will be the same is the body and frame
Ronald Baker I imagine I'll eventually be going that route as well. If you want "durable", you gotta pay Traxxas money; can't expect the Chinese merch to be as tough. :/ I recently purchased 2 of the WLToys 12428 buggies that are so popular lately. One has held-up nicely (although it does occasionally shut-down and needs a reset...but so does my $400 Kyosho Fazer, so what can ya do); the other annihilated its rear drive gear (nylon) the second time it was run, and although I was able to easily McGyver it back into operation, I'll be ordering a metal rear axle as soon as I find a good supplier. If you're gonna be in this Hobby, ya gotta be ready to tweak things. ;)

Sewing straight pins, heat pin until plastic gets loose enough to pull pin out. Delicately use razor to open hole enough to fit on shifter. Small drop of c a tire glue.
Isn't that toy grade steering just wonderful. Some parts from the 1/18 Gll I think will work. The driveshafts and the R5 transmission V2. Not sure though. haven't tried it yet. For the price you get a real nice body.
If you can get it for ~ 40 or below, then I think it is definitely worth it. I would most definitely set aside some cash to put hobby grade parts in it before I purchased it. For around 40 dollars though, it is a great project vehicle.
Come on ya know your dying to update the electronics, I did it on my 1/16 Heng Long and used " what was lying around " 0 $ spent on changeover , micro servo ,losi micro crawler ESC and micro receiver , turned out great and even used the stock 6V battery as to not over tax the drivetrain , keep the videos coming 👍👍
You can wire in a two wire setup to a standard hobby grade Servo by simply removing the circuit board inside the servo or just disconnect it and the potentiometer. Then just hook the wires to the motor you might have to use a resistor in line to regulate the voltage going to the servo you don't want it pushing too hard and frying the motor. You won't have Auto centering though
Some Molotow Liquid Chrome inside those light buckets and some Tamiya Transparent Yellow on the glass would be sweet! I feel the body color was a missed upertunity though? Or, it may just be that Im sort of tired of the sandy looking color being on so many rigs of simular type. Having seen your previous work I just hoped you would go to town on it I guess..haha :)
I havent gotten there yet with mine, but I think there has to be a different servo horn out there that will fix the issue. I just havent messed with it in a while

1/16 is just kinda useless , it's a shame they don't offer a serious of different size scale bodies in the same or comparison price ranges , 1/2 1/8 1/10 ... This entire model kit costs the same or even less than a lexan or pwc body ...and that's with in low end prices .. Parma now has a 1/8 ..1/ 10th lexan body series that are made to turn your truggy or short track truck into a pavement racer ..which is becoming a outlaw kinda racing group I've come across guys using their Traxxas rustlers or associated rc 10 gts on a parking lot oval track , I've seen this in a few different cities over the past 15 years ..which I thought reminded me of old school back woods 1/4 mile dirt tracks .. I've ran on those tracks a bit and had a blast ..rock crawling is a lot of fun .. but I would Shure like to see a standardized scale . I have built hand made aluminum bodies , street rod /rat rod sort of things ..which is where I'll probably end up going again ..it's slow and building a (buck) or form out of plywood is really time consuming but being on a fixed income im limited to hands on . I've found that coil stock from siding applicators to be very easy to use . The cool part is that because the coils stock is painted with a pic paint I can use pvc glue to hold body pannels together . The key word is this pvc is poly vinyl cloride (vinyl ) the glue sets instantly .I also use jb weld for body filler as it doesn't popo off like Bondo in an impact .. I've also found that the coil stock is really awesome for making boat hulls .. especially scale ships .
I love how you slowly talk yourself into several upgrades, just as we all end up doing 😁

I think somethings wrong with yours bud. Mine don’t do that.
