The correct golf iron set up will allow you play play in many situations and allow you to play your best golf from the fairway and rough. Golf iron swing tips need to be built around your understanding of your golf swing and your situation. Far too often golf irons explained videos confuse and make golfers go down a stiff path that simply struggles to work on the golf course.

Do you ever remember to put your links in??? Lol
Haha no I am not good at that. 😂 here you go ruclips.net/video/hrdQz2ypYgo/видео.html
Would love to see a course management video - data says my strike and putting is improved/improving. I think my biggest problem is choice of shot when my plan of "get to 140, 8i to the green" goes awry.
Had a lesson last weekend and played my first round yesterday after that lesson. Made the first 9 in 41 shots which is the best I've ever done, I am a at 20 hcp. I don't think I will repeat it but I but hope that it will be mostly retained and that sort of trend keeps going. Love your content/vids as always great! :D
People spend too much time at the range practicing the perfect setup and shot. Need to think more outside of the box with setup and delivery. Excellent video sir.👏
Can't thank you enough for this Mark! The course playing videos are always funny and great to watch but your teaching videos are just brilliant! You make things that are complex and frustrating easy to understand, correct and apply and it is very much appreciated. The more teaching lessons the better please!
This is great! I can even hear a bit of the podcast really coming into this discussion with block practice versus dynamic practice with the variances. The instruction just takes up another level in seeing how we can really practice for the patterns.
Definitly in-line with my thinking. It's easy to film at the range and see what my stock-shots look like, and make corrections there. But realistically, I have no idea what my swing and technique looks like when I'm playing about with the nuances and variations of the course. Funnily enough, I've got my ever first on-course lesson booked for next week! Great vid Mark!
Great video Mark. A lot of sense and logician there. I am loving the latest bunch of videos for providing a superb amount of food for thought.
Just got a new set of irons and I've been watching a lot of your videos. Great stuff keep up the good work. Gonna try out these tips today on the course 👍
I’m looking forward to trying these tips soon as I’m able ( currently dealing with bad back & doing physical therapy)
I always like watching course management videos. They are fascinating to me to see how other people see the same set of conditions on a course.
Great video, so much useful information 👍🏻
Really need to try these on the course as the range sessions can get a little stale, but on the course I need a better arsenal of shots like these. Thanks Mark.
My fitter, who I also play rounds with and tournaments sometimes, just told me that I might be left eye dominant. Apparently, I often aim way to far to the right as a right handed golfer and that in turn causes two crazy things for me. I often would push or pull shots depending on how I compensate for it. It is very inconsistent in that way. I don't often dig too much or sweep too much, usually it is good contact, just directionally not great. The other thing he told me is when you talk about ball position, we are really talking about back of the ball position. So when someone says play the ball forward in your stand for a certain shot, they mean the back of the ball, not the whole ball, this was very helpful to me.
So for me, what I do to be consistent (my stock shots) is playing most shots slightly further back, but with a little more open stance and I aim with my less dominant eye. I am not sure if this is good or bad, certainly nothing my fitter suggested, it is just what is working for me.
very interesting thoughts
Great video, a lot to think about.
Really enjoyed that video. Would love too see more like this, and course management stuff
This is exactly what I needed today - probably before I went to the range! But after is good too! I was busy beating myself up for over draws and all sorts on the ramge, but setup was probably my main issue! I'll work that in when I'm on the course to help manage my shot shape on the day! Thanks bruh! The driver setup vid is great too... Especially that sway big turn slice... Jeez.. Don't I know that one!
My iron play has been poor this season, probably because I’m trying one stock shot. Love these ideas and can’t wait to try them.
Great video, so much content I’ll watch it again. Definitely an area I need to improve in!
Thanks for this video Mark. It made realize the biggest issue with my iron play are my long irons. I practice iron shot variants as often as I can. The "one stock" setup doesn't work for me at all. Not even with my wedges.
I want to see that larger course management video
Great video Mark.
I was always a regimental golfer, with respect of one set up suited every shot. Until I saw an earlier video by you, regarding playing with an open mind. I think more about shots these days and have more fun.
Cheers mate 👍
Course management best practices video please!
Great video Mark. I am used to only practicing the perfect stock shot on the range but will change starting now. It just makes sense.
Course management video -> YES Please!
Great stuff as usual! Thanks.
Good stuff Mark....keep it up, Thanks
Great video.
im not afraid to exsperiment and i think this is the key!!! you made a good point in your caoching comment it would be great he hear more about your coaching philosophy
Great lesson Mark. I took in a lot of info right there.
Awesome this comes out after Morikawa puts on an iron clinic this weekend at The Open!
Great video. I have struggled with toe strikes and I feel I might have sorted it slightly bending my legs slightly.
Brilliant bruh ..... strategy my course .... sounds great 👍
These videos are GREAT 👍
Thanks Guy
Mmm some food for thought there. As I have developed specailist shots like for a rough lie, sand my golf has vastly improved but still use the basic on fairway approaches which my stats say is a weak point. Excited to expirement a little more in conjunction with less pin chasing mentality and see if I can shed those last couple of shots of the handicap.
Another great video Mark. I suffer from lumbar lordosis (arched back and increased pelvis tilt) which does cause my posture to look "too athletic" I have been working on standing a little bit more upright but it feels extremely weird 😅
Would love to see a game management video 👍🏾
Great info, I am finding myself hitting lower, softer shots with stronger clubs, and have as a goal practicing a chippy half eight iron. I'd rather have that as my 60 yard shot than a full swing lob wedge.
Me too. Better control and better results with less stress.
Interesting break down. Really makes me think a lot of things thru that I have kinda of “self taught” myself over the years without really thinking about it but never really considered finding the pattern outside of standard. I guess the only thing I worry about is being on plane, or relatively close, and delivering the club to impact as neutral and square as possible. Any tips on how to go thru practicing these variables without being over run with so many swing thoughts jumbling thru your head that you lose all focus on what you are trying to accomplish? A course management mistakes video would be fantastic as well. Anything to help build the consistency I’m searching for is always refreshing to see and see how others approach this frustratingly wonderful game.
Hi Mark would appreciate a course management video. You content is great on the iron setup! Thanks
Mark great video. Yes do a course management video
I’d really appreciate a course management video Mark! Recently delved into Decade foundations app and really like ‘variance’ and ‘shotgun’ pattern principles!
Struggling with my 6and 7 iron so I’ll be taking this with me to the range
Hello, great video. Something I did not pay attention is the shaft has to lean forward (=hands ahead of the ball), I have the tendency to have the shaft vertical
Course management video showing suggested stance and club selection changes would be wonderful.
How about a video of playing from the rough, various lies etc
Including what an amateur should really expect
Was nice to see the pros hitting out so often at the Open
For a British audience the Open rough is a better representation than the PGA rough we so often see
Great video, would like to see the course management video
Course management video would be great. Great videos, keep them coming.
Hi Mark, great video and it would be good to see a course management video 👍
Iron play is somewhat of a bother for me. However, this information you just laid out might help next time on the course. Thanks.
Yes please on course mgmt.
Hello Mark. Interesting as always. How do you get along with your new stronglofted SGI irons ? Do you notice any difference in your scores compared to the blades ?
Course management video would be great. Love your videos.
I needed to hit a soft 7i so tried your narrower stance. It worked a treat, although I think I pured it out the middle as carried about 155ish and rolled out to 168 sitting behind the flag 22ft away 👍 cheers. Maybe I just need a narrower stance as a stock option 😂😂 #figuringitout 😂😂
I was taught early to have at least three shots with each club, it’s served me well.
Me too, fat, flush, and thin. 🤣🤣
It’d be awesome to do a video with some key swing drills you can do at home when can’t get to range or course or that I can do of an evening.
I love your video's, always learning, thank you,
I was wondering if you could review the TOUR EDGE
BAZOOKA 470 DRIVER, I was wondering just how good and durable is it?? would be great if you could find out, Thank you for everything,,
Some good tips there bruh. I was always trying to have perfect ball position and posture on range with decent results. Go to course and was struggling with variety of shots because of slope different lies etc now I move my ball position around and try different shots and don't go to range. Learn more on course.
I freakin love you Dude! I’d love to play a course with you and let you show me the way! Your so detailed and comprehensive, I’ve been chunking the shit out of my irons and it’s really hard to find the time to practice, to figure out why it happens, plus I’m lucky if I can play once every 2 weeks, I have 3 kids and a wife, lol thanks Mark keep doing these! Course management lesson does sound good!
As I get older the lack of regularity in my swing means that I can get such a wide variety of shots from the same swing, stance, ball position etc. that it becomes very difficult to detect what results I got due to any change in my swing. Expressed in a different way if I tried two slightly different swings for say 20 shots each, the overlap between the two sets of results would make it just guesswork to say that one swing tends to do this and the other swing tends to do that. I suppose that might mean that to get better I need to be better.
However, at the nineteenth, my usual stance, posture, and arm movements do produce very regular, repeatable results.
Mark, a course management video would be great. Cheers
Would love a proper course management video Mark!
Course management video, yes please
Mark...love all your stuff! Hey, at address are your forearms loose or it appears you have some firmness or is it extension? I have seen instructors say both....how do your suggest the forearms be held? Thanks
For a slope down toward the ball the ball will go right. If the slope is two degrees how much will it go right? I assume it will me more for a wedge than a tree iron. Any rules of thumb?
Hello Mark I'm a new subscriber I baseball grip because I broke 3 knuckles with boxing over years and tried the interlocking grip but my hand swollen badly after 6holes,
I'm 17 handicap decent 3wood decent driver but very inconsistent with irons any tips ??
And great content Mark cheers 👍
How about a video to correct (avoid) shanking mid/short irons, also wedges in pitching and chiping.
I find my most inconsistent iron execution is when i need to set up on an uneven lie. When the ball is below or above my feet or when my stance is uneven.
I’ve always had a tendency to come over the top, then chicken wing and, having just restarted after 10 yr break, am working hard to transfer weight better and deloft (striking ball much better), BUT I struggle to get my weight moving when I play the ball back in my stance. How can I counter this?
Course management video would be great to see 🙈
cant thank you enough for your videos Mark, sad to say but there is no instructors in my city that would teach fundamentals like this.
I tend to find I'm ok from flat lies or even slightly above or below my feet, but there are those occasions where the ball is way below or above my feet. I understand the premise for above the feet - sweep it off the slope, but way below the feet always gets me. End up topping it. Anyone have any solutions other than 'just bend your knees more'? Cheers
At 7:03 your left arm almost looks like its inverting and it’s something I’ve seen so many times with better players. Coaches teach that the shaft and left arm create a line but I’m continually seeing this bent in left arm and the shaft at right angles to the ground. Is there a reason for it ?
To anyone. I tried this today. Take normal stance grip then just straighten the shaft without change anything. Oddly enough it worked better and I have no idea why.
As much as I enjoy the mates all together bants video, this is helping more, lots more, more of the same please, not the on line lessons, cos we are all different, I promise to get a lesson from my club Pro.... who watches you tube golfers ? Better players? nah, its gonna be us hackers....
Ball below my feet I shoot straight right no matter how i set up. Any advise?
Surely the answer is just do wherever it is that Colin Morikawa does ! His stats against the PGA tour is just mental
lol if only it was that easy
I was told by a pro that with every club the ball position is played off your forward heal. Is that correct??
It can be yes. I like a moving ball position more. Try both. 👍
Check out that side tricep!! Tehe
Ok I'm just going to come out and say it................"Professor Crossfield" "Nough said!
I think one of the biggest problems is that golfers can’t tell if the lie is below or above there feet especially if it is by 2-4 degrees and there aim is wrong
Question...My son has a strong grip and developed from 28 to 12 hcp in the last two years...A coach has changed his grip very weak/neutral as a result high weak and right OB shots...Am I wrong to let him go back to old grip...Weak grip=4 triple bogeys...Changed to old grip=5 pars over 9 holes...any advice pls
It can depend, would need to know his regular shot shape. Changes to the swing have to come in pairs. Change the grip, change the club path.
@@scratchduffergolf regular shot is a draw....hook is the miss...and occasional push right.
@@wesleyfontaine3438 Not sure how many knuckles strong, but it sounds like he has a big inside/out swing and uses the strong grip to square the club at impact and when he rotates he gets the hook. That would explain the weak high slice w/the weak grip with the club open to target at impact.
@@wesleyfontaine3438 unless there is a bigger issue with his swing that requires the strong grip, a lack of rotation throughout the ball or something along those lines he could leave it alone.
I can’t hit my damn stick iron shot half the time so venturing around seems counter productive.
My biggest problem is with my ball position…it often creeps forward…leads to glancing contact…
I think it is less about being scared and more about trying to achieve that stock standard shot consistently enough before trying the other shots. Seems pointless trying different lie angles if on the range you are missing in all directions.
Use one lengths. That way you can eliminate different setups and make it pretty much identical, especially if you have a one length hybrid too.
Ummm not sure you have watched
Not a pro by any means, but I believe this just leads to people not putting in the work required to improve at golf. The thrill of golf is having to hit different shots (i.e. The Open just last weekend) and understanding what is required for a shot to be successful. I may be odd, but I prefer practice to playing because I get to work on different shots at my leisure.
😢my iron swings still require, luck, prayers and curses.
Golf is easy 🙈
Just copy Colin Morikawa surely
Haha
First
Well done 👏
