I just got diagnosed too! And I will be 48 next week. Hopefully my life can be a little bit easier. Have all my life just thought I was just not like everybody else, but just accepted the struggle. (never depressed) Knowing now that there is help makes me positive. Hope I will be able to try some meds.
Wow - well done for pursuing a diagnosis; I hope it brings you some relief from the struggle. I can totally empathise with the feeling of just being 'different' and not necessarily understanding why. Let me know how any treatment goes for you! Good luck :)
I just wrote this to Emily. Try mindfulness with your meds, The program I use is called-this way up.And no I don't work for them, I just can't praise it enough.
Just got diagnosed w/ ADHD a week ago (although I had a feeling for a year or so as I consider the possibility more - was originally diagnosed w/ autism in 2011). I've been finding lots of channels on the topic including yours. Great videos and informative too!
The best thing I ever did for my ADHD was to dive headlong into mindfulness. I found it really helped with the effectiveness of the meds. When I tried cbt before meds It was always a massive struggle. Give it another try. I was diagnosed at 46 with what they think is severe lifelong ADHD, and while it's not always easy, CBT(for me anyways) was as big a game changer as Adderall xr. Good luck and godspeed. REMEMBER bumps in the road are just that...bumps.Good luck and Godspeed.
Hey Rob! I totally agree on the mindfulness front - when I discovered meditation and breathing techniques (long before I got diagnosed with ADHD!) I achieved a sense of calm I don't think I'd experienced before. CBT hasn't worked so well for me in the past; I think maybe before I was taking methylphenidate I didn't have the ability/motivation to actually use the techniques I was learning in the way I might do now. I will definitely be giving CBT another go now I'm on the medication. Thank you for the comment and your support!
‘Faffing about’… yep, fully relate to that and task initiation/completion! I am an experienced professional faffer!! 37 diagnosed last month. Started concerta and your story is like hearing my life out loud. Thank you for sharing and helping others feel less alone 🙏
I might add it to my CV - it's got to be useful to someone, somewhere, right!? Congratulations on the positive steps you are taking to improve your life (and 'faff' less!). I'm so glad that my videos have helped you feel less alone, that means a lot. Sometimes I still find it hard to dig up the motivation, but knowing there are people out there who benefit makes it all worthwhile. How is your Concerta journey going now? I'd love to hear! Em x
Hey Emily, I struggle with ADHD too. There are many options like Concerta, Amphetamines as well as Strattera. It is great that you have the courage to accept ADHD. I'm sure Concerta will work on you. Looking forward to seeing you have a great life ahead. All the best !
Hi Aryan, thank you for your comment :) I appreciate your support - I have every hope that all us ADHDers have great lives ahead filled with excitement and adventure!
I am now 42, but was diagnosed last fall at age 41. I've always struggled with Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Depression, etc. Also, after getting out of an extremely abusive marriage, I now deal with PTSD. But once I received the ADHD diagnosis, years of my life began to make sense. As a Mama of five with my two youngest being toddlers, I've been afraid to begin the medication due to possible side effects. Especially since I have two littles to care for. I've had Concerta 18mg sitting here for over a month. I'm really struggling and I know things need to change. I guess I need to really suck it up and try the medication! My kids deserve the best of me, not this. Thank you for sharing your journey ❤
Hey Emily, Just a quick question. Does the pharmacy charge you for your actual medication or do they just charge for the handing fee and so on. Thanks, X
Guys, better be using brand name concerta because as of this year there are no bio equivalent generics. Man J&J sure knows how to screw people over even after a patent expires. Concerta is concerta only because of its unique delivery system using micro holes. Also concerta isn't necessarily a UK version of Ritalin, it's actually a special long release version that uses the same active ingredient as Ritalin (Methylphenidate).
Hey Dessi Jane! Thanks for watching. I can totally empathise - honestly, the first time I took the pill I was really scared, but four days in and I'm feeling good. I hope that they make a difference for you :) I'll be uploading another video tonight showing my first day so stay tuned! Take care, Em x

Wow! Amazing :) I'm glad the medication is working for you!
I just started with my concerta today! I'm also 30 and was diagnosed just after you last year!

Heya - thanks for your comment :)
Yes, you are right, Concerta XL releases the same drug as Ritalin, but over an extended period of time.
Looking for forward to hear about How they work for you, trying 18 mg for the first time tomorrow…kinda scared

Welcome to Club ADHD! We meet every whenever.
Wait, what!? You’re 30!? I thought you were maybe 19.
Ey! A great club to be in!
I have the skin of a 19 year old but the soul of a 70 year old!
Those hair are so fluffy 😂.
It's out of control!
It's gorgeous 😍
@@adhdemily 🤣🤣 any meds to get them under control 🤣
@@thefivewolves6949 Sadly I don't think they make any, but we can hope!
Why potato quality 😢
Pahaha this comment made me laugh! I was really new to vlogging when I uploaded this video - I promise I'm uploading much better quality videos now!
Could you please consider not including drinking noises of your video? Can really mess with some neurodivergent.
Hi Bryan, that's a really good point - thank you fo drawing my attention to it! I will be sure to edit any drinking noises out in future videos :)
@@adhdemily thank you so much for listening and understanding!
