RUclips algo led me here. I have been creeping on people’s studio spaces for months trying to decide what I want to do with my own space, glad I’m not the only one! Cheers from Texas.
I have a similar room as a home office and it looks so bad - this is inspiring and I'm looking forward to taking your style and making my room into a happier space.
I’m incredibly proud to see Old Blood Noise, from here in OKC. Happy to say I know some of the clever fellows over there making those incredible toys! Great video, truly enjoyed it.
Thanks Aaron! OBNE are always making stuff that makes you say, "I've no idea what this control does, but turning it makes it sound better." Thanks for the comment :)
Love the video. This is one I’m gonna keep going back to to take notes on. I’d love to see a whole recording session pan out. Either edited and cut up or just a raw live video or both would be amazing to watch and learn from
If I had such a studio, I would produce non-stop. A beautiful studio to shine a light on the future. Everything has been thought through in detail. Congratulations. an inspiring environment :)
Hey Rob, I wish you could make an actual guide on how to build a small home studio. You seem to have a lot of experience and knowledge to be completely sure about what you do. Many of us, like me, don't really have that knowledge and would have to start from scratch. What to do and what not to do.. how to save money.. so many questions. It would be awesome to get some help when it comes to building a home studio.
Computer, Audio interface, Monitor speakers and or headphones, dynamic mic, USB or Midi Hub and any physical gear either midi device or sythersizors linked and running under the same clock usually comming from your DAW. Some sound acoustic treatment and apart from that everything else is personal preference.
Nice vid mate. FYI UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply, rather than Universal. Theyre pretty much a necessity in places where mains isnt stable, to regulate frequency variations, surges, overcome mains loss and some cases activate generators, whilst providing the power bridge between the mains off and generator on.
@robhill if you don't like the bright acoustic guitar string sound you should check out the "silk and steel guitar strings". they're warm sounding. perfect for recording!
25:34 ----> what we use to do in the 80s, was cook the strings for a few minutes in hot water when they sounded too dull. The great thing was that that really helps, for if you want to record demo's BUT ... they dull down really really fast after that. So that could help if you want that sound. We used this trick a lot in the old days. :-) . I ran a recording project studio for 22 years where I composed for (and recorded) singers and instrumentalists mainly in the 80s and 90s in the Netherlands.
I could stay in lockdown forever in this studio :)). It makes me think seriously about upgrading my own little dirty white box into something more special.
Loved every minute of this! Currently trying to turn an attic into a home studio and was searching around for inspiration - I think I just found it 😌 Thanks for sharing your process and for the studio tour! Best of luck with any and everything you're up to!
What a quality ! I enjoyed every seconds of this video ! I love how you work with the space you had, and all the details you did. I was surprised to see the number of subscribers ! You deserve more ! Great job man !
I'm digging this setup! I've got a pair of Barefoot Footprint 02s coming next week. The Herman Miller Aeron Chair is awesome as well enabling hours of listening without pain. Thanks for the ideas and possible additions to my mini-studio
I had to create a whole new playlist with this as the framework for "Brilliant Studio Ideas". Subbed, loved, excitedly waiting to see what you do next.
Great video Rob. I might have to buy the plans for your desk off you one day! Really good that you mention how important the work environment is which is SO often overlooked in preference for more gear and and sexy things like cable management. It's critical how you feel in your studio and I have always spent a long time on those small but meaningful touches that make a studio your own special man/woman cave. Really loving how you quietly celebrate your achievements with the artwork - makes all the difference on those days when you feel less than inspired.
Thanks for the comment. I think if you freeze frame the vid on the sketches, I'm sure the dimensions are on there :) Let me know if you want them though as they're all pretty straightforward.
subbed, because of your quality of videos, im into prog metal a far different music style but i just enjoy watching and listening to you! look forward to the next vids man good job!
Very good video. Beautiful studio. Love the cable management and the piano drawer. Lots of well thought arrangements and brilliant ideas in this attic ! I like very much your attitude and your humility. I can't wait to watch more videos on your channel.
yeh many years ago, i bought 100m roll of unbalanced shielded cable for guitars and patch cables, and roll of mic cable. its handy to know soldering and hobby electronics if your into home studios. From learning to solder cables lead me to pedal and amp/cabinet building, mic modding, circuit bending and repairs. Saved a fortune, and more importantly you can maybe achieve a sound that noone else will get using custom gear. On the down side once you go down the electronics rabbit hole, you may find yourself spending less time on actually producing any music..just tinkering all the time..god its addictive lol. Anyways, I've never made a cent from my studio in the 22 years I have had it, purely for the love of music and I prefer to get paid with alcohol (beer and rum are currency to me) from friends and aquaintances who drop by .. I think theres worse ways to spend your free time :) Nice job on the studio. like and subbed and I will check out your other stuff.
Thanks! My advice would be to keep going and just get it done 💪. I’ve always found in my previous builds that if you leave something for later, it’ll never get finished 🤣
Hey mate! Elixir Polyweb Coated acoustic guitar strings will get you where you want. I'm the same way as far as taste in darker acoustic recordings. Because they're coated, they really won't get fuzzy and oxidize for a quite some time. I change them about once a year often. Awesome video, cheers!
Hey Rob loved you video and the passion in which you were explaining each and ever part of the studio was worth a watch. Must say that I did admire the way you have small details considered in the studio, like the name of the studio and the collectables that you have preserved as a remembrance. Keep making videos and sharing. All the very best!!!!
Man, Rob what a good job on that video! I love your studio! You've given me a few great ideas as to how to continue to make my little space better, thank you. I've smashed all the smashers! Salutations from wet, grey and still sorta weirdly not back to normal Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
WTH, I though you was TOM HARDY talking about his other "passion", because you really look like him. However, this video is incredibly epic and inspirational, makes me ambitious for my dreams. Postscript: excuse my deficient english and greetings from Colombia, South America! Greetings to everyone!
Very nice studio and very well produced video with alot of interesting insights. I am building a attic home studio in a similar space right now and your knowledge helps alot.
Lovely video Rob and very practical, we have an unconverted loft space that needs to become a studio ASAP. 🙏 I have to say, if it's memories you're looking to fill your studio with, top of the list has to be that amp you and your brother nearly finished surely... yes I know... I've got two kids too 😂 but one day maybe? I reckon you could afford that transformer now eh? 😉 🙏👍
Thanks for this! I'm currently in the process of researching how I'm going to make over my studio. A lot of really great ideas here! Your Blackmagic SSD reader and the Qnap server are two things that I'm definitely going to look into...I have WAY too many external hard drives!
@Rob Hill fantastic work mate. Great studio and really well shot video. I have a fuji Xt30, how did you get those bokeh shots at different ranges? Was that with the Viltrox lens?
All shot on a Viltrox 23mm ƒ1.4 and 33mm ƒ1.4 - both great lenses and about a shallow as you'll get on a Fuji. I've also used really cheap close-up diopters on the equipment shots as the Viltrox's don't focus that close! Also have a Fuji 16mm ƒ2.8 for the wider stuff, but not that great in the shallow depth department.
Looks smart, simple but effective, I just call My studio Holla Sounds Studio, well I would but its currently not at a standard that would class as a studio.
wonderful video! everything turned out wonderful. I have multiple faderfox midi controllers and it has all the knobs and faders i could use! 12 trackers for each device and you can daisy chain them to control more tracks!
Wow 👏 this deserves more views. Amazing setup man, I aspire to have something like this of my own when I have my own place (currently renting with roommate).
Great video Rob, the production was amazing. I have a very similar space at home that I am slowly converting into my studio, so really happy to see your approach. Subscribed!
He got his friends or associates Involved who do the video or film production that He makes the music for. This was made like a Movie or professional film.
Great video, thanks for sharing! At some point the "snakepit" behind my desk / rack is totally annoying. So I started watching studio setup videos. Great idea with these "cable management things" ... looks like a cable duct (no native speaker, hopefully you know what I mean) but with all the openings at the side. This is great! But I got lot's of other cool inspiration. Thank you very much!
for fader controller have you tried the launch control xl...i have it and i love it. im also looking at a Behringer BCF2000 they are kind of big but its motorized so it will remember where you left them in different projects. I hear they are a little noisy when moving around alot but for just setting it and being able to recall i dont see it as an issue.
Hello, good video and nice setup too. I saw at the end you were looking for a better slider controller. I use this one, Sparrow 4x100mm MIDI controller It's like 100.00 for four sliders at 100mm. Anyway, if you already have great. If not check it out. It works great and for a good price too. 😁
Splendid set up you have there! I really enjoyed the detail you've gone into to make this fabulous creative space. Guitar strings wise, try flatwounds, they might be just the thing. They sound wonderful on a Telecaster too.
Love the video Rob and thank you for sharing your experience, lot of great tips! The new space and the desk is awesome! Looking forward for more content from you!
I assume it is your music playing in the background? Where can we hear more?! Congrats on the new studio - it looks amazing! The new desk with the built-in keyboard is absolutely brilliant.
Killer production. Had to do a double take and make sure the sub count was right haha
1 minute in and the quality of this is ridiculous. Can't wait to watch the channel grow
Thanks you. Appreciate the support. 🙏
RUclips algo led me here. I have been creeping on people’s studio spaces for months trying to decide what I want to do with my own space, glad I’m not the only one! Cheers from Texas.
Same here. And I’m also from Texas. Lol
I have a similar room as a home office and it looks so bad - this is inspiring and I'm looking forward to taking your style and making my room into a happier space.
On headphones … the intro is spectacular
DAMN BRO! Flipping hell with the production. NICE
Appreciate it 🙌
Love my QNAP server, but I need to get some cloud back up like you for that extra peace of mind
Make sure you have a speedy internet connection!
"... I wanna collect more memories..." That is a dope sentiment. You got a sub out of me for that statement right there!
A really pleasant watch.
This video is top notch. Cant wait for more content to be uploaded!
Love the video. This is one I’m gonna keep going back to to take notes on. I’d love to see a whole recording session pan out. Either edited and cut up or just a raw live video or both would be amazing to watch and learn from
Nice. That’s something I’d like to do on a project Westwood have planned early next year.
just came across this video since i watch alot of studio building videos, might be the best video about studio builds ive ever seen
If I had such a studio, I would produce non-stop. A beautiful studio to shine a light on the future. Everything has been thought through in detail. Congratulations. an inspiring environment :)
Wow, thank you!
Great content. Keep it up Rob. : )))

Stunning.
amazing video! 10/10! all the best, now back to work on my studio
@robhill if you don't like the bright acoustic guitar string sound you should check out the "silk and steel guitar strings". they're warm sounding. perfect for recording!
Nice. Thanks for the suggestion!
Rad video man! I hope your channel takes off! Great production value too!
Thank you! Appreciate the comment :)

Thank you!
I could stay in lockdown forever in this studio :)). It makes me think seriously about upgrading my own little dirty white box into something more special.
100% worth the effort!
hope your channel blows up. great angles and no pretentiousness
Thank you! Appreciate it. 👍
RUclips recommended this for me, thankful for that. This is really well done. Subbed.
Awesome, thank you!
SSL UC1 and UC8 are fantastic mixing controllers

Really good video, love the backup system and the organisation of the studio.
What an amazing production man! Looking for more videos!
Very cool desk! Loved the breakdown on the rest of the studio as well.
I’ve been making great progress on my personal home drum studio. Your story and work gave me more inspiration to keep pressing on. Great stuff man!
Thanks! My advice would be to keep going and just get it done 💪. I’ve always found in my previous builds that if you leave something for later, it’ll never get finished 🤣

Love the video Rob and thank you for sharing your experience, lot of great tips! The new space and the desk is awesome! Looking forward for more content from you!
Thanks! Anything you wanna see? I have a big list already, but would be great to know where to start!
Try some flat wound or bronze styled guitar strings for more of a warm sound :)
I assume it is your music playing in the background? Where can we hear more?! Congrats on the new studio - it looks amazing! The new desk with the built-in keyboard is absolutely brilliant.
Amazing studio dude, Really inspiring to see!
What model is your QNAP 24TB backup system?
I would love a link to those rack drawers (and the mayer studio walkthrough! dont remember seeing that). thanks!
