You should have gone a week or two ago. Weather was a lot better then. Maybe you will strike another nice patch in coming weeks. After all, it is Melbourne, land of 4 seasons ….. in one day!
@@tressteleg1 LoL my son is down there ATM for work....I wanted to catch up with him, too. Sick family members mean I can't now travel for at least a month, as I am the only person who can drive . Your video really cheered me up as I often catch that 58 ... especially if I am heading to Vic Markets 🧡
@@heathertruskinger6214 That’s bad luck, but hopefully you will get there while son is still there too. Yes, 58 is handy for the markets, possibly the least crowded line to get there.
Awesome!!! I've wanted to see a video onboard a Route 58 E Class for a while now so this is just what I needed! Really hope you do the rest of the route at some point like you always seem to.
Yes I recorded the complete round trip. As not all my viewers like trams, each part will be several weeks apart. I will have some harsh words to say about procedures in the final part.
Great video! I suppose there was a bit of bunching at the terminus, after our departure, as I counted 2 Zs and 1 B in the opposite direction very close to each other Also, gas @1.74 looks so crazy. Some of the road trips I enjoyed back in 2016 would be much more expensive right now (drove Melbourne-Sydney twice and also the likes of Great Ocean Road and Wilsons Promontory)
I did this line twice. The first day there were video problems, but mid afternoon not many people were riding on both days. In fact I think tram patronage is down a lot since Covid. Same with the train. Petrol is often around or even above $2 per litre. US is around $5 per gallon which is also quite expensive. You certainly did some travelling in 2016!
@@tressteleg1 $2 per litre... we are definitely living crazy days! Looking forward to Part 2 of the video, especially to see if the E class can get to a reasonable speed in Royal Park
Right now on the Gold Coast the ‘cheapest’ is $1.89.9 per litre with a few just over $2. From memory the run through the park is quite leisurely. With few people getting on or off, if you don’t slow down, and pass Time Points early, Yarra will get fined and the driver will be in trouble.
$2 per litre for petrol? Who and i though we here im germany had to pay much. We pay about the same price as you do. I remember in 1982 as l left Melbourne - only 30 cents for one litre 🙄
I did the maths and right now I'm paying around US$1.50 per litre here in Brazil. Used to be less than US$1 pre-Covid. Thankfully my car usage is very little these days, mostly for short runs to the supermarket/gym. Work is now 1/2 the time from home, 1/2 the time in the office, but I catch the bus, which got a one-year fare lock-up included in the last fare increase earlier this year, so unlikely to be affected by further increases in diesel prices.
Thank you for the video really enjoyed it hope you can do more trams like that please. And any chance I can see inside B2 trams, please keep the good work up thank you
The rest of the line and the return was all recorded and will appear in due course. I don’t really have anything taken inside trams but I’m sure other RUclips sites are sure to cover that.
Awesome video Mate you know that on Mernda line four level crossing in Preston has been removed by building the first rail bridge trains running now on city bound single rail bridge while building another rail bridge on Mernda bound and new Preston station and new Bell station in construction and two new stations opens on September this year can’t wait can you film it?
Wow, those Fairway yellow broken lines in Toorak Road are really "effective". Also you gave us a view of the E1 driver's cab on the E2 class tram 6059...
Some motorists have eyes, but it seems many do not, at least when it comes to not crossing unbroken lines on the road. Re controls, I have to be careful not to show the driver enough for them to be identified, just in case they ‘make a mistake’ and management sees this and wants to track them down. So views of the controls may be a bit limited.
@@tressteleg1 What I mean is the tram you passed at the Tivoli Road stop was #6059 which was fitted with an E1 driver's cab after it was damaged in a collision.
@@msg5507 I was surprised to see that an inferior E1 cab had been fitted to an E2. The wide front pillars somewhat restrict the driver’s view ahead. However all that I could find was that 6056 was thus treated while 6059 derailed at Spencer and Flinders but at least at that time the cabs were not involved. I knew that at least one E1 had an E2 cab, but at least as updated as Vicsig may be, 4 got the ‘upgrade’. I can only surmise that an E1 cab was all that was immediately available. I’ll take another look at the video tomorrow to see if I can find it.
100 E class have been delivered. Then an extra 10 were ordered, but that was cancelled. Now the government wants a smaller new low floor tram to be the G class, but the design has not yet been decided.
Jealous as feck; every industrialised metropolitan area should have a tram system, or other similar alternative (eg metro), and those that don't should be shamed for it every day until they do.
Unfortunately in many places those who make the decisions never use public transport and see buses as the good enough but cheap easy option. They don’t know that people hate riding buses so drive their cars if they can.
Thanks for my "Melbourne fix".
I wanted to go down this week, but everything went against me..
Riding route 58 with you had helped

I drove all classes of trams plus vintage trams based at South Melbourne 1988 to 1994. Generally I visit once each year.
