One of the most overlooked and underappreciated aspects of these Backrooms videos is the music and sound effects. Kane chooses the perfect music to create that uneasy and unnerving atmosphere.

The back rooms has always had potential, but the way Kane took it & built an entire world around it never stops amazing me. The undefined lore behind this, and the liminal space horror allows it to be interpreted in any way by anyone, making it truly haunting.

    • @EskimoCanadian44
      @EskimoCanadian44 2 года назад +52

People too often make the rookie mistake of over saturating the lore of the backrooms, to the point where they become too well defined. They should remain mysterious and foreboding. And this guy in particular gets that less is more. By keeping things ambiguous, it creates a much more unsettling atmosphere. Because you _don't_ know what this place is, or what horrors may (or may not) lurk within. You have no clue what kinda distorted realities exist inside. It's kinda like being caught in The Twilight Zone.

How is the lore "undefined"? It looks very easy to understand. FBI and/or whatever american elite corporation created the backrooms through their crazy psychopathic experiments to create infinite rooms for people to live in (be caged in), so they don't have to build them for them, and spend their precious money. Basically a place where they can keep their slaves, monitored too if we consider the dimension like something modifiable or virtual.
Instead of it being "undefined", it's actually very realistic, and scary in the context of the real-world elites, that are actually capable of doing crazy things, and the moment they get more power they'd impose all that on you, we're seeing that more and more only in the recent years, soon they'll even have Elon Musk's brain chips, and do you know the FBI actually patented devices capable of changing your emotions and thoughts?
The "fantastic" part of this story is mostly in the program failing and creating entities, however that's also comparable to the way the world is being treated today and the even scarier destruction this insanity can, and will, bring. Nothing about this lore is undefined lol, and if you saw anything similar, said Stranger things, or played similar *realistic* sci-fi games, one I can think of being Inside, it's really not hard at all to get. Crazy first world elite governments doing crazy experiments on people for their ulterior profit and manipulation, it's a hella common topic actually.
I also don't see how it can be "interpreted in any way by anyone", when there's a video clearly stating the backrooms are being created as an infinite room-space for people to live inside. Nothing about space. But I don't expect people to understand art cause their stupidity is over the edge, in fact they don't even understand the same world they live in, I get why it's hard for them to understand anything slightly different, and therefore unless it's told to them word by word, it'll be something "wow cryptic" for their drugged brains.

@@EskimoCanadian44 I've been saying this the entire time. The main appeal of most creepy pastas is the mystery of the unknown that shrouds them, at least for the first bit of introduction. The backrooms was one of the most unfortunate of creepypastas as it just kept getting lore dumps after massive lore dump when it took off the first time.
Seeing it be revived by kane with his "show don't tell" approach is absolutely refreshing. Not everything needs an explanation, if and/or when it does it needs to nail the conclusion. Wether it's left open ended or not may deter a lot of people, but its way too early to be thinking about that. It's time to enjoy the ride.

I think taking a more sci-fi approach to the backrooms is really interesting, and helps you stick out from the countless other backrooms content creators. The way I see it the back rooms in this series are one of two things. An existing dimension that we managed to open a door to, or an artificially created dimension. In the case of the latter, I almost feel as if the ability for people to “clip” into it accidentally, and the fact that the place is filled with dangerous monstrosities, almost suggests that the universe is very much reacting negatively to this. I mean if you cheat, you shouldn’t be surprised to find a bunch of glitches.

Oak Ridge is actually a real laboratory in Tennessee. They are also a laboratory for the Department of Energy (interesting).
      Thoughts:
It's interesting that Project KV31 is based in California, but a prototype was tested in Tennessee.
Philip R. Heymann is a Fictional Character, we may get more information about him and this video.
The laboratory is owned by the Department of Energy, so the study of the Low-Proximity Magnetic Distortion System is not a new concept for the DOE.

I personally don’t know what to think, but I do know that they are active in nuclear engineering still, since I have friends who work there today.
Whatever they do, even my childhood best friends refuse to and absolutely will not ever speak on what they see or do.

    All the Backrooms lore explanation:
In 1982 the Async foundation tries a prototype of a very large experiment, the KV31, which formally starts in 1988.
In the "third test" video, we can actually see the Complex Machine functioning, and the cientists explain that the KV31 is made for unlimited storage and house making. The machine distortes gravity and space itself to blend it which tergiversates universe itself (this would lead to the Backrooms in the future). The meta of the experiment is that that tergiversated space would be infinite and non euclidean, so humans would not have problems with storage and homes, this infinite space would save us billions of dollars.
In 1989 (First contact video) there is another test of the Complex Machine, and Its date matches perfectly with the real earthquake that happened in that exact date, Loma Prieta. Loma Prieta fucked up the test and the machine malfunctioned, creating the Backrooms. These Backrooms can be accessed by the laboratory by the personal or randomly by civils, which went missing (1990) (See "missing persons" and "Backrooms footage"). It seems to be that the Backrooms are connected to a dimension in which extrange entities live, and the missing persons are killed by an alien fungi (mold-like) that these creatures secrete, which makes peoples bodies deteriorate. (See the creatures in "Backrooms footage" and the fungi in "Autopsy").

This machine is named “LBTrn-82” and is set up to send something to a different reality, in which we see, is most likely true. It’s construction is composed of focusing multiple laser beams of ionized protonic material while using only 34% of electricity. It uses a 68-L49 UP Fan, a Hydromolecular Compressor, 2 GR-ION Power Cables, and a VNLKH Stabilizer. The reason for the stabilizer is because the force of the Hydromolecular Compressor overflows the rods without the stabilizer so that’s important. The rods they use are B960 Rods (that shoot out the ionized protonic material).

I think the best part about these machines, that Kane is creating, is that they look like how a real science experiment in a theoretical field may look like. Most sci-fi makes their experiments look so extravagant and clean and polished but this is how a real lab might test a theory. Most labs don't have budgets for extravagance or cleanliness. They make their devices to do what they want them to do and it doesn't have to look sleek if it does it's job. It adds to the realism. Makes me believe that these machines could exist in real life.

    Theory time:
This is clearly one of the first iterations of the Threshold gateway, but what exactly did this prototype do?
The design looks like some sort of mini particle accelerator, with eight handles pointing inwards. We can see something like a marble at the center, most definitely a test object.
And what happened when the prototype activated and completed its test? The marble dissapered.
What if, the marble was the first man-made object to artificially enter the backrooms. And the one thing the researchers didn't realised was that the marble was contaminated with microbial strains..
And we know the backroom is temporally warped, meaning the marble could've ended up with billions of year's to wait for humanity to physically arrive.
EDIT: before y'all complain, yes I know that it's not a particle accelerator OR that it perfectly looks like one. The prototype is obviously a mini-threshold gate whatever. I was only using a particle accelerator as a base example for what I could perceive.

    • @jeb123
      @jeb123 2 года назад +161

It doesn't looks like a particle accelerator imo.

Nice theory! I would say that this resembles more of a laser induced fusion reactor than particle accelrator. Currently we have small targets like this of pure gold surrounded by powerful lasers, normally from every angle not just a ring. There is no particle acceleration but instead the lasers heats the target to increadible temperatures to induce fusion to take place and creating a micro star for very short periods of time. Compression of material below a certain limit can also create mini black holes, as are theoriesd to be created by the large hadron collider. Black holes punch a hole through space time by warping it so severely. It is theorised that if you connect the inward singularity with a black hole and an outward singularity ( sometimes called a white hole) together you would get a hypothetical Einstein-Rosen Bridge, or more commonly known as a wormhole. So i would theorise that this is a wormhole generator creating a microwormhole but instead of a wormhole to a new place in our spacetime, a wormhole to the backroom dimensions. The gateway we see in earlier videos would then be an Einstein -Rosen Bridge , held open by tremendous amounts of energy, the whole output of a star like our sun, so there needs to be some hookwinking done to explain how the government can produce a reaction with a solar output but its the basis of a theory!

So, what I'm getting from this is a first test run using a small-scale device that can transport a very small object to the backrooms or to what I call an "otherspace". It's basically proof of concept that things CAN be moved from one plane of existence to another. Of course, a tremulous amount of calculations had to precede the experiment to guess where in space the little sphere would end up. Okay so here‘s my theory. Please note that this is just a theory of my opinion.
From what we know so far, all began in this Video. They tested a prototype of the Portal wich will lead to the „backrooms“. After the portal was build they started to test the threshold. The first test is unknown so far. In the second test the threshold began to open, but failed afterwards. The third test seemed successfully at first but after on it created too much power which lead to an explosion. The backrooms weren‘t actually meant to be endless. They were meant to be little rooms where you could store stuff. But because of that explosion those rooms became one big endless loop. The company begann to send researchers in to the backrooms to find out how big it actually got. Because of the big magnetic field from the explosion pepole got sucked into the backrooms.

A lot of backrooms lore theory:
If you go to Kane Pixel's Ko-fi account (in the description of his videos), and view his gallery, the first photo he posted was a picture of the monster tripod in the found footage, and it's named "bacteria". So my theory is that the tripod monster is the same thing as the hay bacillus bacteria seen in "Autopsy report" video, because in the Wikipedia page for hay bacillus, it says they are able to become motile (capable of motion) by taking up DNA from the environment. So the tripod monster is probably made up of the bacteria with the DNA of some organism (most likely a human).
I knew it, Kane is genius of making actually creepy analog horror with awesome and interesting lore 👍 Keep it up, bro

My own theory is that, since we’ve seen the back rooms distort the further you go into it, why not apply that logic to the things within it? We’ve seen bacteria in the autopsy report, and what does a yellow wallpaper traditionally have in it? Mold. So it’s likely that due to the distortion increasing the further you go, the mild distorts further and becomes that creature.

yeah SCP has gotten away from its early roots a bit. too many hands on deck. but that's just how it is for SCP, since there has never been a single person in charge of its direction.
The issue with SCP is that the expectation for how articles should be written has led to a loss of simplicity. Sometimes less is more. Articles nowadays tend towards explaining so much about an entry that they no longer feel mysterious of strange. There are also so many anomalous objects now that it's not really anomalous in-universe. When anomalous is the norm, it's no longer anomalous. It's analagous to the saying, "if everyone is special, no one is." I think there's an over-reliance on incorporating third-parties like Marshall Carter & Dark at times too. Not *everything* has to fit together. It takes away from the X-Files-esque "monster of the week" fun. Stuff that ties into the larger story arch (if SCP can even be said to have one) should be written more sparingly.

    • @popiposh

@@LaylaVaughan I agree there was probably nothing to stop it once it grew to be as big as it is now. It's also not to say there aren't some fantastic entries now, but im nostalgic towards the mystery of the early universe, without years of detail and backstory that's been built up. It's not anyone's particular fault, it's just the nature of a fan generated universe that exploded in popularity.

    Theory:
The device looks to be an inertial confinement fusion device, which concentrates energy via lasers to a packet of fusionable material in the middle to start the fusion process.
Taking mass-energy-equivalence into account, we can assume that large amounts of energy concentrated in a small space-time-region can create a black hole.
Now how does this connect to the backrooms? Well, black holes are regions of space where wormhole-like structures known as Einstein-Rosen-Bridges can occur, which could connect different realities. The threshold might be a stable Einstein-Rosen-Bridge connecting our universe to that of the backrooms.
It could be that the initial goal was the development of a fusion reactor, but they stumbled upon a way to make wormholes into other universes.

im dumb to think that the backrooms is like another reality trying to copy ours, it began in 1982 because of the people trying to resonate an object into a black hole. so the reality took what we had in 1982 and made an infinite space of 1982 styled rooms. and the backrooms could be a consciousness, trying to make everything impossible more possible, like having your hand go through a table. so the entities in the backrooms are somewhat impossible to even exist but exist only because its a seperate reality, if you were to fall through the ground, where will you be? if there were enough molocules for you to fall straight through the earth it would just be considered a giant hole but maybe that giant hole could be the transportation machine to the seperate reality (the complex) and over time the more the backrooms feeds in people the stronger it gets to tug in more. maybe thats the reason the number of missing people are not staying at a certain flow, but its rising and rising. soon the backrooms would just go on forever, any being in there would be impossible to stay so it would just fall apart and the backrooms would just eat our own reality

You had an awfully strange dream
You were wandering the halls of an empty mall
Once colorful, filled with smiling faces and lovely smells coming from the tens of perfume shops.
    Now it's nothing.
All of the memories hosted in it, evaporated into nothingness
    You take a left
Looking with disapproval from all of the gloom.
    Smashed windows
    Broken floor tiles
    Office chairs placed randomly.
The walls, completely covered in some form of red mold.
You make your way down the hallway when you see something strange.
You see something from an old memory of yours.
An indoor playground, seemingly off- placed from where it used to be.
    You walk up to it
The colors, so exaggerated that you swear there’s something wrong with your eyes.
    You remember all the noise.
    All the fun you had
    Then you realize
Just how much you’d give to be a kid again.
To be so carefree, to be able to run away from all of your worries.
To have so many beautiful people in your life.
    You leave the playground
Continuing on walking with tears in your eyes
You attempt to find an exit
Taking so many turns, walking through so many doors
    You’re lost
You haven't came by an exit
    There is none.
I guess this is what you wanted though.
    To be a kid again.
You think about this dream throughout the entire day
You've never remembered a dream this vividly before
Almost as if it was real…

I love how the clicking the prototype makes when activating is like a early version of the deep clicking noise that happens when the large door test occurs years later.

Outstanding work. Sound design is incredible, both effects and musical score. Love the Async lore/canon. The 80's-90s Corporate VHS feel is done perfectly.

We need to talk about how great the quality of this is. It’s.. beautiful. The scenery is some of the most beautiful yet. Now, theorizing time - first off, I didn’t expect us to get a PREQUEL, dating back to even before the backrooms was even in development. This prototype is definitely important, and very interesting. Another thing we should take notice of - this isn’t A-Sync footage. This is from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, under the supervision of a new character called Phillip R. Heymann. It’s strange to say the least, and I have a feeling we’ll be getting more prequel videos like this that elaborate on A-Sync’s dark past… once again, well done Kane! 👍

      something worth noting:
      Richard (aka R) Phillips Feynman
      (pseudo-spoilers ahead)
      > Feynman was sent to the Clinton Engineer Works in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where the Manhattan Project had its uranium enrichment facilities
he worked on the manhattan project (aka the nuke project)
note the resemblance of the manhattan project logo to the async logo.
worth noting he died in 1988 so was alive here in 1982, but not 1990

Kane's doing these the right way.
    Always leave them wanting more.
All the other backrooms videos im seeing are like 5 seconds of peeking around a corner then a loud noise and what looks like a toddler in a mocap ink-blott charging at camera.
Suspense, mystery, implication are the way to go here.

I think taking a more sci-fi approach to the backrooms is really interesting, and helps you stick out from the countless other backrooms content creators. A lot of people aren't particularly scared of the backrooms, so mixing in these genuinely cool hypothetical-science aspects among the rest of the horror stuff is really

i really like the 1980/90s look feel and realism to the backrooms. being a 16 year old hobbyist cinematographer myself, i really enjoy these kind of videos! my FAVROTE realistic detail is how the camara sensor and rec tape reacted to the (im assuming) extreme gamma radiation from the "Prototype". you can see similarities to this in footage of the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster when the camaras were exposed to radiation when flying above the open reactor... anyway. i went down a rabbit hole again... but i like this eerie stile of videos! Really cool work Kane!
