    Regarding the space terrain: I think it's alright. It's certainly seems like it's going to be fun to mess around with, exploit, and abuse. My main worry is that they'll overuse this in the campaign. I don't think it will be that bad if the campaign uses a variety of terrain types and densities, and that could actually make it a fun challenge. Especially if there's a mission with no cover, or very little cover that your really far away from. But if the space terrain is just derelicts and monoliths, like it is in this demo, I can see it eventually getting boring.
    Also, I totally agree with you that there should be artifacts in the campaign. Even if they didn't carry over from one mode to the other, just being able to get different artifacts as you play through the campaign would add so much replay value. (There are a few caveats, I think. One is that they'd probably want to lock some artifacts to certain types, both so you can be guaranteed certain aspects/levels/routes of progression and so you don't get some things to early. I'd also want a way to balance the game so that it could be beaten without any artifacts (or at least any non-required ones) and/or have the enemy scale in power with you as you got more artifacts. But that's my opinion)

    • @HalNordmann
      @HalNordmann Год назад +2

      There probably will be artifacts in the campaign, just like there were in Deserts of Kharak. But what was talked about was potentially one mode's artifacts affecting the other.

    I a guessing the reason why wargames is decoupled form single player and multiplayer is that (and again this is just a guess) Wargames is probably the only part of the game that is NOT mod-able. They have already stated they have tried to make it mod friendly (SP and MP) but allowing people to mod the Wargame part would make it pointless as there are a lot of people I know saying the first thing they would mod out of Wargames is the constant incursions ^.^ as well as get rid of the negatives on artifacts. My theory is that the Wargames part will not be able to be modded so they had to unhook it from SP and MP.
    In addition we dont know much about the SP campaign so maybe we will find artifacts in the SP campaign. I am a fan of an RTS game that has no problems breaking the SP campaign so that is as fun as possible while keeping the MP separate and balanced. Honestly one of the best things Starcraft 2 ever did.

    I can understand why artifacts may not be returning in the campaign, in that balancing for combinations of artifacts could be a nightmare.
    For example, in DOK, I got an artifact that reduces the supply cost of strike fighters very early on and I cruised through the next few missions as I could field a full airwing combined with large ground forces. So random combinations of artifacts could be a nightmare to balance around as a player with the right combinations would be able to cruise on by while a player with a bad or miss matched set of artifacts could struggle.

    I've been watching the Homeworld franchise since 2000 and unfortunately my conclusion is not satisfactory. After 20 years later, the game doesn't get smarter or better, the game gets dumber and simpler. This is painful to realize. Even without delving into the details of the game, there are details, that are noticeable that simply break my heart. 20 years later, the ships still no have crews, no have ammunition, no have fuel, no have subsystems on its board and we see the same gameplay mechanics, formations, ships purposes as in 1999 or 2003! Everything new, is that the game simply copies from Desert of Kharak in its the interface, in its ship design, in its music, in its type of weapons, in its environment, etc, etc, etc. Simple examples 19:44 - the sand slides lies on the slabs in space, 20:47 - the wind blows in space , 21:44 - what an idiot with flat brain added a flat grid to this game!? In fact, people are making a game about space, in which there is no space! There cannot be mountains of sand in space, there cannot be mountains of icebergs, the wind cannot blow, there cannot be a static environment, cause any object at the space zero grawity must have rotation, but it seems the developers don't know about that! My conclusion is not comforting - unfortunately this game is made by illiterate people, who have not yet broken away your brains from the previous game - Deserts of Kharak. Those people just breed illiteracy, because a lot of teenagers will play it, distorting their ideas about space. Unfortunately I'm disappointed, I wanted Homeworld 3 to be the smartest and most competent space game as possible, with much greater depth of gameplay, than it was in last 2003 release (Homeworld 2) but everything I've seen so far is just looks silly or copy/paste from land game DOK.

    Hey. Nice review, thnx! I played all the games including complex modes, used all modding tools, and i have to say, iam a bit disappointed from what i saw sofar. Terrain was present in hw1 in form of space radiation, in 2 in form of nebulas, you needed to take there the terrain into consideration as well, alltough probably less, then here. What iam currios about is, all HW maps in all versions were basically a predefined square "space" of a certain size, which you could define in Handommap generator. Simply you could reach the edge of the map, where sometimes weird things happened. Is it the same case here in HW3? Probably yes. I see its very few improovements for being 20 years idle. Iam definitelly with hopes, that it is not all, and looking forward to get anyway.

    This is just my opinion from this small glance at the game, but the ships don't seem as iconic as before. Your fighters used to have cockpits, and have these cool light trails behind them. You could see the turrets on your flak frigate turn to track the enemy even when zoomed out. The ion frigates looked like they were built around the gun itself, with the guts of the ship arranged around it. Your harvesters were dirty and industrial looking. Your battlecruisers looked tough, and their guns were huge! A battleship turret was bigger than a corvette.
    These new ships look very pretty, very sleek and clean, but they also look very samey. Those subtle touches the artists added disappear almost immediately as a soon as you zoom out even a little. A battle feels more like a fight between small ships and big ships, not actually different classes.
    That poor enemy battelcruiser. Even when zoomed in in the middle of battle, you could barely tell it was firing its weapons.

    Banana is both nostalgia and practical use. I wonder if some of the War Games and Campaign missions will use this some more actively.
    About War Games, I think the purpose of this mode. To extend longevity of a 'semi SP' experience. Like Spec Ops in Call of Duty Modern Warfare. So this mode could be something you train your skills. Have fun with after you finished the Campaign.
    And if artifact's upgrades is part of MP. Then you should not be able to "rank" up, outside regular MP, IMO. By doing this the incentive to rank up in MP is gone. If they go this route, and I will like them to make a rank up concept in MP.

      They said there will be no microtransactions, even in multiplayer the only customisation is the colour scheme

      i'm also worried about that but in HWMobile you have micro, but you dont need it. You dont fight with other players but help with other.

    Liked what I've seeing of Homeworld 3, looks very Homeworldy which is good
    I've never found a good reason to have motion blur and depth of field in a PC game, horrible effects that should have died with last gen consoles.

    I'll be honest, two decades and the graphics and gameplay are the same? That's disappointing. With that much time I was expecting something a bit more akin to Star Wars: Empire at War, with an entire galaxy to develop an economy in before you Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. This looks like it will be a short campaign with some game modes and a bit of multiplayer PvP? thats... just Homeworld 2. I mean that Star Wars game is from 2006, and it even has ground combat, surely they could have strived to achieve this for Homeworld.

      @igorokinamujika2073 Год назад

      To each their own, I guess, but if like Homeworld its because it's hand crafted campaigns. I wouldn't like it to change into just another pseudo Total War like Company of Heroes 3 or Battlefleet Gthic Armada 2. I'd rather have quality over quantity.
      If you think the graphics are the same, I invite you to check gameplays of the original Homeworld 2. There is a noticeable inprovement, both visually and in scale.

  • @Shamai36

    @aspec this looks like Homeworld Mobile mission. Go to system, scan system, get to mission alone or create group and together fight. In HWM it is cool and i love it (even i hate mobile games before, you know. Millenials :D ) I hope this is will end with not just wargames mode but like HWM galaxy map and facions, clans.. btw. In HWM you have 3 class of capital ships. Explorer (fast armored but not such sexy to fight) Carrier (with many slots and escort ships but slow and not such havy armor) and BattleCrusier (many guns, heavy armor but small hangar). It will be cool if devs have same idea for HW3
