Hi guys, Thanks for having me on an featuring some of my work. A slight clarification on the Tamiya additive to make paint jobs dead flat - I will sometimes use Tamia X-21 Flat Base as a paint additive.
Thank you Derek for highlighting how well the model clubhouse works for posting and or watching a build-up from start to finish. The clubhouse is way better than any facebook sight. There is already a ton of great model build up pics and work in progress pics on the clubhouse, but hopefully with Derek’s recommendation even more builders and fans will take advantage of the model clubhouse.
The Lady is a Vamp. I'm a bit late on this, but I figure you guys are highly distracted by Wonderfest plans! Have a great show. I wish I was in the car going down there with you. I don't miss the twisters this time of year tho....
Hey Scott, wishing the best health possible for you and your family. Hey Jason, my wife was a teacher so I totally understand the stress you face daily. Thanks to both of you for putting out these very entertaining shows despite the challenges that you are dealing with!
This was a great episode Lots of eye candy, some great painting discussion. Another amazing gallery. Both in quantity, as well as quality. Of course, we all want the best for Scott, hang in there Jason, the school year is almost over. I love the sneak-peak pic of that kaiju kit. Can't wait to look it over in person.
Great interview/segment with Derek. Some fantastic paint work there. We both suffer from the same word "details", but enjoy going down the "rabbit hole".
Derek, thank you for sharing your techniques and tips. There were some gems in there. Scott, best of luck beating it again, we have your back. As far as shows, I would love to see more panels/demos/discussions get recorded so those who can't make it can still see the tips and tricks and those who can't make 2 at the same time can see them both. I also wonder if shows being offered every other year would help or if it would make it too easy to stop going? The Lady is a Vamp, and here comes the Judge.
My thought is it would be too easy to stop going. Pandemic cooled my interest in several things. Once I got out of the habit of going, it was too easy to just say 'screw it' and stay home.
Here comes the Judge - Good luck with your health Scott. I don't think you look fat. I think it's them PJ's you had on today. Red is not your color! Great show and Derek is an amazing painter.
Those X-Plus guys eh! Need to sort out a standing order if they carry on like this - the only thing missing (apart from around 30 B movie monsters and any number of Hammer beasties) is the lack of English translations in their videos!!
This is interesting what Derek does.. But in my opinion not for 1/6 or 1/8 scale figures.. the figure will become blotchy .. I done all kinds of washes and blendings for monsters.. At the end of day.. it's just for us.. Not a museum..
Do you two really want know where hobby is going.. I think you both know.. It was babyboomer nostalgia thing as we all know... fastforward from 30 plus years ago. Most who involved with this small hobby has passed away in last 13 yrs I seen it first hand on ebay. And it's become more common place every month.. This hobby is going to age out.. 3D print is fine and well .. But's not a garage kit. Lets face a 30 old does not have the will or the drive... to sculpt and cast a kit. now of these days. It's too much effort little pay off. 30yrs ago you could make a profit because resin was cheaper.. Wonderfest may fade away like alot conventions in past have.. Take look at old Modelers Resource.. All the conventions that once were and now nothing. If don't have people who created this and supported this.. Then it goes away. When you see pawn shops take in kits and sell them on ebay .. It's pretty done.

That was impressive! Thank you, Derek for letting Jason pick your brain for modelling tips.
It was my pleasure and very flattering to be asked.

The research and rabbit-hole dive is what makes the hobby fun for me :)
The "rabbit hole" is not only fun and entertaining, it's also educational.

better than use oils guys..
