I come from Hong Kong, and I’m a counsellor. This song, for me, symbolises journey of one's lifespan. The fast-moving freight train can symbolize the passage of time, the swift pace at which life moves, and the inevitability of mortality. The desire not to reveal the train or route can be seen as a metaphor for the uniqueness and unpredictability of each individual's life journey.
Ironically I used to live where we had a Chestnut street right next to some railroad tracks that these long freight trains would roll down. I'm talking 100 cars was a short freight train by our standards.

She found it in Jesus. When people swim against the stream to tell the world "I'm so glad that Jesus lifted me", they mean it, and want people who need to be lifted by Jesus that He does that.
I'm here because I'm waiting for the TSU homecoming parade, which passes by my home every year. Their theme song is "I'm so glad I went to TSU". I always want it acknowledged that the song they appropriated, was really a song about Jesus, not about going to school so you can get a good paying job.

The meaning of the song, as told by Elizabeth herself, was that young black men in the south often had to flee their homes due to some insult, real or imagined, that they had somehow offered to a local white person. They would have to jump freight trains to escape being identified. They knew that if they didn't get out they would almost certainly be lynched by a white mob. One day she saw a freight train passing and from its depths she could see the reflections of some pairs of eyes of young men who were on the run.
