- Nancy Wilson was born in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, Scotland, and learned guitar as a child. While attending art school in Glasgow, she performed on the local folk club circuit where she met fellow singer and guitarist Jimmie Macgregor who introduced her to blues and hillbilly music. She took her stage name from a Scottish folk song, "The Carlton Weaver", which has a chorus of: "Whisky, whisky, Nancy whisky, Whisky, whisky, Nancy-O".
My dad, ChicThompson, brought Nancy Whiskey from the UK to the us. Recorded on his own label, "Frieght Train" was the only Chic Thomoson label, hit the Billboard Charts as #50, the label's only song to hit Billboard.
0:57 that is some fast guitar playing!!
She was very pretty
Nice to see Hugh Laurie on washboard.........🤣....
Nancy was really cute.
This song, and the singer, have always been part of life, from the days of 'Uncle Mac' on Saturday morning BBC radio to now. In the 1950s it was the first verse and chorus which one noticed and was moved by, now it is the last - there is so much more to this song, and Nancy Wilson's singing of it, than one ever knew back then.
Very good quality video and sound.
Thanks!
Great to see this upgrade on the existing RUclips video. Love this song/performance !
0:51 Where's me washboard ?
Thank you, sir.
While I like to joke "The Irish like to pray on their knees, but the Scots like to prey on their neighbors!" This is true beauty.
