I remember having the sunrise Borobudur tour with my Grade 5 kids, it was beyond the Earth. The temple was surrounded by morning mist and on certain angle on the second top level, we could act like we swallowing the newly risen sun. Did they tell the reason why we can no longer climb the temple? In my, I don't remember which visit, they closed the top three levels because the interlocking stones were loosened and wiggling after Mount Merapi eruption, the acidic pyroclastic ash had shaken the temple.
That explains a lot about why we couldn't go up, but what great memories you have, we wish we'd gone at sunrise but oh well 🤷🏻♂️🤗

The city actual name is “Yogyakarta” but most people usually call it as “Jogja” . It’s easier to pronounce and become a tourism marketing

I got a filling tht your next trip will be Bandung .... don't forget to Ciwidey (bandung) for "kawah putih & pinisi resto" and to lembang for "tangkuban perahu, great asia afrika, floating martket" ...
as for Jogja u should taste the food also such as Gudeg (Yu Djum), Tengkleng Gajah (meat), for attraction you can explore MERAPI mountain (Merapi Park, museum, lost world castle, jeep adventure) ..
During pandemic, Borobudur totally closed. But now it's kinda "half closed" coz tourists still can not totally access to all level of the temple
Also recommented to visit kailash temple in ellora (maharshtra , india) .largest rock cut monolithic structure in the world . An underrated wonder
Did you visit Banyumas, this city also called Place with thousand waterfalls, its mean Banyumas has many waterfalls. You can search with Google with keyword: Baturaden, the waterfalls are nearby.

actually Borobudur is not from Yogyakarta but from Magelang, Central Java
For your information, Borobudur is not located in Yogyakarta, but in Magelang, Cental Java. Different province. People always make mistake about it.
Btw, Yogyakarta is a formal spelling and pronunciation, while Jogja is more casual and usually used in daily conversation with friends.

Unfortunately you couldn't see detail of the Borobudur . Usually we can go inside and see detail of the relief. Hope you can visit Ijen crater in East Java and islands around Labuan Bajo

The temple was constructed around 700ad (not 900). Around that time, thousands of witnesses saw an actual craft land there having the shape identical to the top levels of the temple. Ask the people, they will tell you what their ancestors told them. This is also the area where Germans recovered a metal bell shaped just like the stupa on the temple, about 9ft high or so. This later became known as the Nazi bell, and even the pattern one would see when looking up inside that bell was adapted and used as their flag. This bell was tested at the base known as 'DieGlocke' which means "The bell". During the same time around 700ad, Hopi Indians of Moab Utah, possibly my ancestors for all I know, were painting images of giants who came there to mine radium from the mesa. The came and left in a massive globe surrounded in spherical lights. The Hopi copied what they saw, images of sine and square waves, and other things shown to them by these visitors, such as a map of Sirius which became known as Newspaper rock. The images tell a story. Giants came covered in veils as to not reveal their faces to us.

maybe your next tour should visit the tallest jesus statue in the world in indonesia. named the Statue of Jesus Buntu Burake which is located in Toraja, South Sulawesi. This statue stands on a hill as high as 1,700 meters above sea level. The height of the statue is about 45 meters made of bronze castings. It is taller than the statue of Jesus in Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil. Which is 38 meters high on the peak of Mount Corcovado with an altitude of 710 meters above sea level in the Tijuca Forest National Park.
When normal condition, many International tourist come to see the beautiful sunrise on Borobudur. The best time to enjoy the outdoor temple like Borobudur (Budhism) or Prambanan (Hinduism) at morning or late afternoon (4 pm) when the weather condition is more comfortable. May you enjoy the vacation in Indonesia.

2020 my school wanted to take a vacation in Borobudur but all failed because of the emergence of covid 19 me and my school friends were very sad because they failed to visit one of the world's cultural heritage places😂
