As they say in showbusiness: always leave the audience wanting more. I actually really like the reason why they didn't want to continue and it was due to not wanting the material to suffer. Probably the best reason for any cancellation. Quality over quantity. Loved this show so much.
I never considered this series "cancelled". It lasted a long time and ended when the creators wanted to move on. If anything, the only Batman cartoon I genuinely consider cancelled is Beware the Batman. It only lasted 26 episodes when they clearly had plans for more, yet Cartoon Network mistreated it into oblivion.
BTAS is such a '90s vibe. There were flashes of it in the early 2000s with "Injustice for All" in Justice League and in the first half of the 2010s with the Arkham games. But now Conroy is gone and Hamill has retired his Joker for good. And considering Rings of Power, Amazon picking up a reboot of another beloved series doesn't warrant a green tick. Now the results are in, it's clear that the video from Leather Apron Club on Amazon's approach to Tolkien--that it's not about making money--is quite correct.
more BTAS! Of all the shows from my childhood, it's probably the one most taken for granted. In terms of visuals, characters and narrative, it just holds up so much better than almost everything else
I wish they kept the BTAS animation style instead of switching to the STAS style with TNBA. The old style just looked so much better. Wish we got atleast 3 or 4 more seasons out of this great series. Always treasure it so. 🥰🦇
While it was a better look, ultimately they had to make the change in order to better blend with STAS, as crossovers between the two series/characters were inevitable. Dark Deco looks great for Batman. But if you want Batman to inevitably cross paths with other heroes, ultimately his design theory is the odd one out, and making changes to fit the later STAS aesthetic simply had to happen.
Batman: The Animated Series wasn't cancelled. They just decided to go in a different direction with their Batman stories, so they came up with The Adventures Of Batman & Robin, Batman: The New Adventures, & then Batman Beyond.
I enjoyed your video. More BTAS please!! Also I wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts about BTAS movies such as subzero and mask of phantasm. Even Batman Beyond Return of the Joker and Justice League Unlimited Epilogue
I have a full complete dvd set of this show and im already halfway through the show im almost done with the first disk of season 3 also rip Kevin Conroy you were the best batman and help shape a whole generation of fans who grew up watching batman 😢
That show was done with all of the right intentions. It even ended for the right reasons (the creators felt they had done all that they can). It's amazing what talented fans of the character can create when they set out to make entertainment about the character.
I miss the voice actor of Batman, the best voice actor of all time and now that he’s gone I never get the chance to meet them know I can’t do the best, Batman voice, then him
Being a Batman fan I have really enjoyed your content. As with Amazon picking up the series I have a question for you.....Since there is the inevitable reboot incoming in the DC movie verse...what Batman story would you start with? An origin or an established Batman like court of owls or death in the family? A Pennyworth for your thoughts.
Thanks for the question! I actually think Court of Owls would be a fantastic starting point! It shows off the corruption of Gotham and also gives the writers the opportunity to play with flasbacks, maybe looking into a young Bruce's life, seeing the Wayne's (perhaps unintentionally) mixing with the court. If its a new universe, i do think its important to give us some kind of origin, even if its done briefly in flashbacks like Afflecks batman had. I just like to see how eacb batman was made 😅
@@thebatcave111 The Court of Owls was my first thought, but between Gotham on Fox and Gotham Knights on The CW, I'm not sure if fans' interest hasn't dwindled.

There can never be another Batman the Animated Series it's impossible to try and reboot this great cartoon for what it was. And part of the cancellation was because Warner Brothers want to revamp Superman and that's why they change the art style of Batman from the way it was back in 92 to fit the animation style of Superman the animated series to make more streamline.
This video was incredible and absolutely wonderful, Batcave. I really enjoyed this deep dive into why the Batman Animated Series was cancelled. As a fan of the original Batman animated series, I really enjoyed how the writers at times did a better job of writing characters, like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and some other characters. In addition to that it was one animated series that actually had a phenomenal voice cast that included Mark Hamill, Melissa Gilbert, Johnathan Glover, Tara Strong and the late Kevin Conroy. Whatever happens with the Caped Crusader animated series, I just hope that it helps new fans learn more about the characters and help connect fans of the original Batman animated series as well. Anyways, thanks again for this wonderful video and I hope that you have a great day. Can't wait for more Batman and BTAS related videos from you soon. Until then, peace out and stay vigilant. P.S. Hey there Batcave, I was just wondering if you thought about Poison Ivy from BTAS being more plant then human and do you think they did that because of the comics?
Just watched and finished it for the first time = It’s full of filler episodes. - Harley Quinn arc is great however still goes back to Joker - Silver Shroud spin off was interesting - I finally see a true Robin beginning - I finally see actual Bat Girl story And ofcourse really experienced a true Batman experience.
Why is it every Batman AS video on youtube has the comment disabled? It's not even just DC clips...fan videos as well. Could it be DC made them disable comments? WHY?
@@dynaguy3 Actually I missed your avatar, otherwise I probably wouldn't have said it. I'm not huge on superheroes...but tend to apprecaite DC universe more...but none of those shows drew me in. But yeah...weird you'd appreciate other DC animated shows and not the original BAS.
I'm surprised the show was cancelled, I always thought fan and critics consistently liked it. Where I do take issue and can understand why rating gotten low in my opinion having seen most of the animated series was even when it moved to WB, they should've stuck with the original animators, the first two seasons, the characters and who they were formed were great, and the new look from the New Batman and Robin Adventures and the New Batman adventures was such a downgrade I felt. with that, the stories became less compelling so if they ever were to reboot, bring back the old team and the animators from that first series and movie please. that being said, give me Batman the animated series ANYDAY over any of the live action ones, the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher movies are terrible, and the Nolan trilogy even that is nothing compared to the animated series in which the writing alone was much better and the voice acting was top notch.
The show wasn't canceled because of low ratings. The show was canceled because execs wanted them to do a show about Batman in high school. So they came up with Batman Beyond and had to move away from Batman and Superman TAS.
@@blueblur2273 didn't like Batman Beyond as much as the original animated but that's another one they just ended abruptly and would've been nice if it had been allowed to properly develop.
