I'm a bit sceptical about the aluminium foil. You would have to connect it to the electrical ground to really do something or else it would just shift the frequency/radiation pattern from what I understand about RF
Howdy Vincent, yes ideally they would need to be grounded. my point was it is unlikely to make any huge negative impacts only provide some positives for the ease/cost/weight side. Matt
100% works and helps if you are using 433 like ezuhf. I can also say 100% effective for improving GPS lock. One of my models I had the GPS mounted 15mm from the FC and GPS wouldn't look. I put copper tape between the GPS and flight controller (not grounded) and GPS lock was perfect from then on
You can put the motor leads through some copper braid. Punched of coax like RG213 , Ground one end of the coax , Eg , Fix the one end to the negative on the FC flight controller , It acts as sort of Faraday screen .... You can do the same with the other cables .
Hey Matt, re the GPS. Did you apply hot glue to the top of the GPS and attach it to the top of the fuse, or did you glue it to the floor? I'm trying to work out if hot glue will affect GPS reception if I apply glue to the GPS antenna, and attach it to the top......
Hey Matt, actually I'm using a huge puck one now and it's just wedged in there and won't move. For the smaller one, I did use double sided tape, that worked well and was a bastard to get out. So probably a better idea than hot glue? Hope that helps Matt Oh and DO NOT glue to the metal top of the GPS if it has no cover! Glue from the underside so you don't wreck the GPS antenna. Matt
Great content! Enjoy the heck out of my (now 3rd) dart250. I had a double stupid maiden. I had everything just right and then went to go fly and right aileron was appearing left and vice-versa. Crashed in the corn field (mostly horizontally) dusted off went through all checks again, couldn't find anything wrong with the servo movements. Looked at the camera and I just didn't flip the horizontal image so I changed out the battery and went for it again , and 💥.... didn't SAVE IT !!! All I can say now is welder glue is certainly my friend. And save your camera settings!
Hi Matt. Hope you are well. Thanks for these great vids. I had a question.... i have a matek f405 wing board with only 2 esc pads. Im now using the board for a tri copter vtol and wanted to use a 3rd esc.... can i use multiple escs off each esc pad on the flight control board?
Yeah my 1st thought as you opened the back lid was, that's going to explode the moment he plugs it in. Then I kept listening and after you mentioning wrapping parts up with insulation material, now would be more concerned about overheating components. ... hottest component on my list is my 800mw vtx.
Howdy Will, 4 bolts in from the motor side and 4 bolts in from the mount side, thats all. To get at the motor mount, its just 2 bolts on the underside of the model. Hope that helps Will, Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff How are you getting the bolts into the standoffs from the motor side? The motor bell is wider than the mouting holes which blocks even getting bolts in there, let alone a driver. Super interested in doing this mod as I wish mine were a little quieter. Thanks, Matt!
Howdy David, the model had a tail wind to get to its destination, see the review I did of the Caddx ratel FPV camera has that has the 47.92Km flight in there and the summary screen too I think. Matt
Hi Matt, hoe exactly did you mount the motor with those standoffs? Long M2 bolt from the motor mount thought the standoffs into the base of the motor? Or do you have screws from both sides into the standoffs? On the motor side the bell seems to be in the way for that. Thanks a lot.
In case you still didn't solve it or someone else has same problem. The motor takes m2 bolts. I got a box of various size/length bolts from amazon (~10 or 15 euro) and the m2 fits fine. I had more trouble finding spacers, and in the end I 3d printed one from thingiverse.
Try some sticky backed aluminium foil tape instead of the foil Matt , available at car body repair supply shops or probably online too, around 2quid a roll 😉👍
Howdy Ty, just seen your question. My bad. The power train is stock and I'm using the 2 blade 5050 propeller. This works really well. As for the CTX, defo not the Matek 1.2 module and I believe the antenna style is called VRX. I got them with some cheap VTX's I bought ages ago, but have never seen them for sale. Matt
Hey Sam, pretty well. You need to watch the max cruise throttle in iNav for really strong winds as it will have issues with a 40mph headwind and trying to climb at the same time. Matt
When you said 100 I was like, cool, 60mph but then you said 109 'miles' per hour, wow, I didnt know that this was capable of that. Was that on 2s or more? Also, with the tin foil wrapped electronics for rf shielding, if you could somehow solder them all to a common ground via some small wire, then it should be a lot more effective
All good in the hood buddy actually matt, Did almost virtually the same mod to my bixler2 matt hope that you are keeping well m8 peace out cj. Oh n have you used the foxere wildfire yet?
howdy Christian, yea it works well. As for the Wildfire, yes! been working great. Sadly have issues with my goggles, so thats very annoying. No negatives to say about the WF though. Matt

Copper tape backplane will help a gps. Foil should be saved for hats

It looks like you mounted your FC witht he heatsink out in the air through the canopy? That seems like a pretty good mod to talk about, too.
I love the Cat 2 fpv camera by far the best one I own..
What model do you have it in? I have one and undecided what to put it in. More than likely one of my quads.
Instead of putting led at the back you can try to put vtx. I had similar setup at balance it without led.
