In this video I go through what worked and didn't work for me in regards to bulking. Do you have a different experience while trying to put on weight and bulk? Let us know!

I just turned 30 and I'm really trying to make the gym a staple in my life. You Dudes have really helped me specifically with your 5×5 and Superhero Program, it keeps me motivated to try new lifts I wasn't comfortable with and to learn how to set goals for progressive overload. Echoing what many are saying already, but this is exactly why this is imo the best fitness channel. Talking about setting a goal, reaching it and then not feeling that satisfied is so honest. Can happen in all aspects of life and Brandon’s advice is so constructive; don’t get down, just take a step back and make sure you know why your choosing your goal and what you’d like to get when you achieve it. If you draw a blank, maybe choose a different goal to work towards.
I really like the attitude of “work consistently towards your goals, show discipline, but if it doesn’t work out or doesn’t give the satisfaction you thought, that’s ok. “
Promoting both working hard at something and also being easy on yourself in those pursuits is a tough balance to achieve. I think you guys nailed it. Great work.

Love these types of videos focusing more on the mindset aspect of fitness and having a goal/dream for fitness and overall life, a lot of people always neglect the mindset it takes to get what you want out of fitness and life, and how you gotta stay positive and try to be the best version of YOU that you can be.

Watching you progress through life (brother having kids, his leg injury, seeing your dad progress in age in a manly and dignified way, this video for you) really paints an accurate picture of what role fitness within a life plays: it doesn't have to be everything, SHOULDN'T be everything, but it's damn important. I look forward to the videos in the future continue to transition from "how to [be a buff dude], etc" to "how to [be a buff old dude]"

I love this! Thank you so much for this really thoughtful and meaningful post.
I completed your bulking plan in the Fall of 2019. My plan was to take a break over the holidays and then do the cutting plan in the Spring. I started and it was tough....then lockdown happened. Cutting was cut from my priorities list (I'm a nurse so I really wasn't in a headspace to deal with anything "extra"). It was a rough time. I did some dumbbell and bodyweight work outs from home but I really wasn't feeling it.
Fortunately, I was able to do the Insanity series, picked up cross country skiing, and yoga (online). I dropped the excess fat and leaned up. This helped my energy and self esteem. The yoga and skiing were helpful with my mental health and it was helpful to socialize while skiing.
What you talked about resonates with me greatly. I want to be fit and active but I don't care that much about things anymore. My priorities have changed. Still, I don't think I've ever been as happy or comfortable with my body. My cardio endurance better than it has been for years, I'm more flexible, my chronic wrist pain is gone (thanks to the yoga) and I'm now able to front squat. I still hit the gym, but less often and more full body training.
Thank you BUFF Dudes. This video definitely broadens my understanding of Food and Fitness.

That was VERY inspirational. I have some changes to make based on what you said. 1, I need to stop looking at healthier guys and trying to become them; focus on you. 2, I'm setting a goal to reach my ideal weight (195 lbs) by next September when I turn 40 (I'm 273 pounds now). And 3, before I used to workout that I did, but I wasn't enjoying it, because it felt like work-work-work. Now I found my workouts that I enjoy along with watching Conan The Barbarian/Destroyer and wrestling while working out.

  • @MrBISHOP826

You couldn't have said it better. I always tell people not to get hung up on bulking/cutting being polar opposite approaches to your regimen. You're either in a surplus or a deficit. You're either eating less or more of the staples that were already present in your diet. No need to dress it up as something that it's not by going off the rails and eating everything or suddenly dipping into a sharp deficit. If you're a tried and true Buff Dude or Dudet, you know how you should be eating, and you know what variables will slow or foil your progress. Take your time, and enjoy the process. Your mental/emotional investments with the goal will likely persevere longer a result. Slowly been leaning out since Aug, and the work is starting to show. I'm maintaining, if not continuing to build strength and I'm still very motivated to hit my goal. If all goes well, I'll be returning in my next PL meet as an 83kg instead of a 93kg.

I love the graphical line, the way they present the content, it is funny, and they are always adding new angles to what they discuss, I love that their channel is a family business.
But what they do keeps feeling more and more distant, only for very accomplished individuals with an unmovable will, like watching a Marvel movie, it's still a lot of fun.
I hope they would involve "clients", regular people that get results following their methods, anyway.

I needed to hear that. I've been struggling finding my why again. I'm 18, 240, and been working out since my freshman year. I've always wanted to get big and muscly. Now I'm all most there and I'm just not happy with the way I look in the mirror.
So I've been changing how I work. I'm starting to go for more circuit training. Today I got 135 a total of 50 time. 2 sets of 25. That a PR for me. But I want more. That was just a normal bench day. Every other day I'm thinking will be a circuit drill.
I remember why I train. I've always wanted to look like Batman.
But I'll need to show a friend of mine this vid. This will help him.
Thank you Brandon. I need this today.

When I started working out, my two main mistakes were lack of sleep and not eating enough (not being in a caloric surplus). I always thought I was eating enough and was disappointed because my weight stagnated. Then I got my first diet plan created (I think it was from Dietarize iirc). I realised that my previous food intake was way below my needs, although I thought I'm good. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 kcal in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.

I needed a video like this, I’ve been lifting for a little over a year and been trying to get lean, watching videos on pros and cons of bulking, I also have seen myself compete in my head with other guys in the gym and know I should just compete with myself…Thanks, I’m going to set new goals and start checking them off…. Yeaaaaah! 🏋️

Great video and even greater message. The "why" of our goals has to be strong enough. Beyond the superficial, it needs to motivate through those days when we don't want to continue. This mindset perspective is what I am currently focusing on with my channel.

Hey, I've been watching your content for several years now. I like and appreciate the message that you guys send. When it comes to bulking, I haven't heard you guys talk about bulking for strength. When it comes to cutting; aesthetics is first in mind, but bulking is for Mass or strength. Maybe you guys could do a video or a series on bulking for strength like a powerlifting competition. Anyways keep up the good content I appreciate you!

Compete with YOURSELF, not others. That is the true key to progression.

This really hit home. Currently on a bulk from watching Chris Bumsted but think I'm just gonna try and do the best I can without a bulk. Great video, 👍 💪

Brandon, I follow the fitness industry for a long time and let me tell you. You have an incredible physique near peak for what you can achieve without any detrimental health effects or drugs, you should be proud of that and other things like your channel and your beard style also maybe try mastering calisthenics I think they are cool to do and it’s something I think might expand your horizons.

As an 83 year old man, I have to go easy on the off season bulk… cos it’s getting harder to loose those pounds for the summer beach cuts.
