    Dry January, Sober October - those are just two examples of months in which people abstain from drinking for many different reasons. For us personally, it was to see how our fitness changed over the course of the 30-day challenge. Better sleep, better workouts, weight loss. Was it possible? We took the challenge and found out.

    After many years of hard drinking, I started having health issues. I finally decided enough was enough and checked myself into a treatment program. That was seven years ago and I haven't looked back. I started to eat right and workout, I ended up losing a hundred pounds in six months. I've been able to keep the weight off and haven't had a drink since. Life for me, is much better without alcohol.

    Ive been battling alcohol and cocaine addiction god two years. And after I reached rock bottom back in March of 2022. I decided to quit everything cold turkey. It’s November now and I honestly feel so much better physically mentally and I’ve lost weight because of myself no longer drinking. And I’m attending therapy also and I’m starting off slow working out

      The white addiction is probably the worst the get off. I've never done it but have dealt with people who have dealt with on and off again addicts, and they keep coming back. Even fiening. Its messed up but hope you've made it far friend. I just gotta give up alcohol but I also work out. Its like the workout gives me good feeling sober and alcohol when off hours. If I were to give it up I'd have to pick up other hobbies. Thats how I got off alcohol the first time. Doing photoshop and photography apart from conceited self portraits

      Awesome job Jaz! I'm doing something similar too. I've been smoking weed for 4 years and drinking 9-12 beers nightly for about 7 months. Quit smoking and drinking two weeks ago, I lost weight, have more energy, and feel happier which is weird since weed is what used to make me happy. Hope you make it through this and kick addictions ass! Good luck!!!

Now I’m 14 months strong and feeling better than ever about my decision.

    Quitting alcohol changed my life. First, it gave me a physique I had never thought possible to achieve within 50 days of quitting. It then started a domino effect on other parts of my life. Following ny passions, more natural energy, less anxiety, more confidence. If you're on the fence as to if you should quit, don't be. The rewards are worth it.

    Yeah I’m an actual alcoholic and it’s been so hard for me to quit no matter how bad the hangover is. I’ve tried to drink moderately but I relapse every time. I actually never knew how alcohol affects your physical fitness. I also look forward to drinking because I work hard all week with overtime and then I hit the gym after each day and on top of that I do jiu jitsu. So ultimately I feel like I need a release at the end of the week so I just binge on the weekend. I don’t know what to do but I’m glad the Buff Dudes shown some really relatable scenes and it makes me want to cut it out and focus more on bettering my fitness

    When I was a kid, people used to think moderate drinking (one or two a day, especially red wine) was healthy. I think it's well documented now that it's poison at any level of consumption. I like that they both talked about improved sleep. It's well documented that alcohol messes up sleep even in small amounts by inhibiting REM sleep. It can help you fall asleep but the sleep you get is poor quality. No one should be using it as a sleep aid.

    • @andresmontana4466
      @andresmontana4466 Год назад

      It is a poison no doubt about it but it is a statistical fact that 1 or 2 glasses of red wine per day or even 1 or 2 bottles of beer and "statistically" you will live longer than if you drank no alcohol at all. It's due to the cardio vascular benefits of alcohol thinning the blood, they hypothesise, and with red wine, added tannins. Could an aspirin a day have the same effect.. probably. Just sayin...

    I actually really needed this today. I had a physical with my doctor, my cholesterol is elevated, pre diabetic, and got diagnosed with high blood pressure. I know a lot has to contribute to drinking and I have not been so scared in my life as I am now. I weekend habit, turned into a daily habit I only have myself to blame. So I'm hoping that in 3 months my cholesterol levels with stabilize and can get off blood pressure meds.

    I went hard with the booze in my 20’s, started slowing down in my 30’s, but was still drinking more than I should well into my 40’s. I stopped because I went to college at 47. I was working full time, going to school full time, working a part time internship, maintaining a relationship with my wife, and keeping my exercise routine intact. At the height of all that, even just a beer would slow me down and mess up my routine.

    This video really resonated with me. I've been telling myself for yeas that I need to cut back on the alcohol, for all of the reasons stated in this video. I had a goal to lose weight and I would do great until the weekend. then I would drink and eat so much junk after, completely destroying most of my progress for the week. The on Sunday i would feel sluggish and not want to do anything which really hurt my productivity. It's a whole unproductive, unhealthy cycle. I haven't drank since New years and i plan to keep it that way, at least for the month of January. If i resume drinking, it needs to be socially. Or if i want to enjoy a few drinks alone, maybe only once a month. Or hell, maybe I'll just stop drinking all together. We will definitely see!

    I'm going to do the 30 day challenge. I have a drink or two almost every night.
    I got off of beer because of calories and started drinking vodka with carb water...for less calories, but I have as hard time getting up every morning and pee a lot at night. Don't sleep well at all.
    I loved working out and have made fair gains even with my bad habits, but I remember when I was more strict on my diet and drinking and my ads were visible.

    I have never drank alcohol in my life but used to smoke cigarettes. It's been four months since my last smoke and I understand the willpower it takes for the first few days and weeks. I believe the factor that kept me in purgatory was the social aspect. I came clean to my friends and wanted them to respect my decision of quitting smoking. Since then, I have started eating clean, cut sugar, chips, coke and all the junk food, lost 27kilos of body weight started running and going to gym gained muscle and improved stamina. So yeah, it all came from that one spark to be healthy. You just have to be consistent and if you ever feel like slipping on your journey just remember why you started. Remember you aren't alone in this journey.

    This is hands down the most entertaining/informative video of how alcohol affects gains. It's sad but true, them calories from drinks plus the snacking will demolish your goals. It took me too long to come to this realization until I completely stopped for a month and a half, I went from 228 to 205. It's a tough one to balance for me but I definitely restrict the booze to special events/nights when I cut.

    Glad I came across this video. I'm a 34 year old woman and at my highest weight I was almost 300 lbs. I started hitting the gym hard in Nov '21 5x a week and while I've seen amazing progress, I am still an alcoholic. Week 1 of college was a whole new world for me as I hadn't ever partied in HS, so when I got to college I went a little nuts and haven't stopped drinking since. It's been over 15 years now that I've consumed copius amounts of alcohol, in the past few years it's been a little over two bottles of white wine EVERY night. I feel like an idiot thinking about it. I'm inhibiting my weight loss goals but more importantly I'm slowly commiting suicide. I have a resolution to quit or drastically decrease my intake this week. I'm sick of my liver hurting. I'm sick of feeling bloated constantly. And I'm sick of not seeing the weight loss I truly could be seeing given that I am lifting heavy and doing cardio every day. I hope I can feel like a new person when this heavy veil is lifted. I have so much potential, thanks for reminding me of that.

    • @jmkass
      @jmkass Год назад

      I feel you, girl. I've been having around the same amount of wine, give or take, for the past 4 months and I've gained a lot of weight. For me it was because I've had a very stressful moment in my life and felt I needed the alcohol to knock me out to sleep. Now that stress is slowly releasing and I'm down to just one bottle a night. Having HALF as much as I used to is a huge progress and I feel so much better. I did not lose weight yet, but I don't feel as bloated anymore.
      Hang on, we can do this!

    After a decade of "responsible drinking", last year I decided to quit. I can still toast 30 grams on a special occasion if someone absolutely won't take a "no", but I quit buying booze and always decline when I'm offered a drink, so effectively my alcohol consumption went from a few liters to a few grams per year. And, frankly, it's been awesome. Can't say it was life-changing (probably because I didn't drink that often), but definitely positive - no more headaches, no more stupid regrettable drunk decisions, no more wasted hangover days. Epic win!

Unfortunately I let my drinking get out of hand and was drinking about a liter of vodka a day and would have pretty severe withdrawals if I didn't (seizures and DT's) Thankfully I've been sober for about a year and a half now and it's mostly been easy as far a cravings and temptations. But the holidays and New Years are always a bit of a struggle and this video definitely has been a good reminder for me to stay on the wagon. Thanks guys and I love your videos. He tried to explain why he overeats when he drinks, then oddly jumping straight to why it makes you fat.
    Alcohol makes you overeat due to lowering inhibition, lowering your bloodsugar, stimulating parts of your hypothalamus which gives you hunger signals. The empty calories from alcohol, added carbs from the drink, slowing fat metabolism and alcohol induced munchies are the combined reasons.

    Brandon Weekend Four hit me hard. When you break it all out over a month that’s a shit ton of extra calories in alcohol alone. And then what you said at 14:30 hit close to home, because that was exactly me. I took close to six months off from working out 5 times a week and put 25 lbs back on. Today was my first day getting back in the gym. So, thank you for that statement. It hit me hard.

    Glad RUclips recommended this video today. I just recently started getting back to working out and running regularly after a few years of letting my physical health take a back seat while a lot of life changes have been going on (not to mention the pandemic). I went from doing about 2 hours of exercise 5-6 days a week and drinking occasionally (losing 30+ lbs in the process) to only going for a light jog or maybe a gym visit a few times A MONTH and drinking at least a beer or two almost daily, often much more on weekends. All this while turning 30 this past month. Needless to say I've regained all the weight I lost and the embarrassment of that made it even harder to get back to exercising and made staying home and drinking way more appealing even knowing it was making things worse. My old scale was broken so I kept telling myself "it's not that bad" until my shirts and pants all seemed too tight. Finally bought a new scale to be honest with myself, 5lbs short of being back to my all-time highest weight. It was the reality check I needed. I'm going back to the basics, calorie tracking helps a lot in avoiding drinking. It's easier to pass on the 100-200 calorie beer when your tracker says you've only got 600 calories left in the day and you haven't eaten dinner yet. I haven't totally cut out alcohol but I'm cutting back slowly. I found out that Guinness now makes a non-alcoholic version of their regular offering and it's 60cal/serving (74cal/can) and turns out it's my new favorite beer in terms of taste. That's helped a lot, if I get a craving I can just have one of those.
    Long story short I'm hoping these changes will allow me to lose AT LEAST 10 of my regained pounds before my wedding! I keep thinking of how much I'd hate to look back on our photos and not like how I look and that's big motivation.

So it didn't feel like something that I had to fight or deal with at all, it just went down to hardly any consumption of alcohol after a while. Alcohol can be fun in small doses but it's WAY too easy to slide into a habit or even an addiction if you're really unfortunate.
