This one took a LONG time to put together, hope you enjoy and thanks for all the helpful tips regarding KETO. Let us know what you'd like us to tackle next...STAY BUFFFFFFF!
It would cool if you did a video about how to put together a home gym. I have a rack and plates, but I don’t have any dumbbells. What about a barbell only workout?
I lost 42 lbs in 11 weeks doing keto. People that had not seen me in a while didn't recognize me, many assumed I was sick (this is annoying). Friends and family would laugh at my keto diet... they're not laughing now and want me to tell them exactly how I lost the weight. I also did some blood tests, my levels are top notch. I love keto.
hey im here to agree with you. i lost about 44 pounds so far on OMAD keto in about 8 weeks. exactly half way to my ideal weight now and feel better than i have in years ! who would have thought its possible to lose almost 90 pounds and be feeling so much better in only about 4 months! its so life changing. i dont even feel hungry. and by the way, i am 51 years old.
Add being a severe diabetic into the mix and there is NOTHING that works as well as KETO to reverse it! I have been on a strict keto diet for one month, as of today. I have lost 16 pounds and I have reduced my blood sugar readings by about 100 points, on average. It IS tough but it is also incredible! I use LESS than 1/4 of the insulin I was using, and I have completely stopped my oral medications. I do intermittent fasting and have one meal a day on 5 days a week and I do a 36-hour fast for autophagy and HGH production, two days a week. I even have a hard time, some days, consuming the number of calories that are recommended! There are a TON of interesting recipes that I want to try, but most importantly, for the first time in 20 years, I feel that I have the deadly disease of diabetes, under control. Doctors are wrong. It is NOT incurable and/or a "progressive" disease. It can be reversed.
Been KETO 9 months and I'm never goin' back. Blood pressure & blood sugar normal now, lost a lot of weight, and not living in constant pain from inflammatory foods. It's a huge win for me!
Heitor Altemani it has lowered my ldl levels and increased my hdl levels but granted I try to keep my meats on the leaner side and most fats come from plant based sources like nuts and olive, coconut and sesame oil. I almost never use butter in my food but will occasionally have fresh cheese
@@heitorla my friend plz don't worried i am on keto for 3 years your body will become efficient in burning fat as fuel... The ldl cholesterol is nothing put a transporter.
@@ClouduSan What is carbohydrate? Sugar... Most plants sit middle of the glycemic load index. The reason sugar in particular is bad, despite the obvious literature on metabolic disorders(diabetes) is that such foods are fat storing. This is because sugar down regulates gluconeogenesis, the metabolic pathway the body uses to convert body fat to energy. When this pathway is down regulated obviously people are going to have lower TEE(total energy expenditure). Fat is the least insulinogenic food known. When people do keto they have a significant metabolic advantage in TEE because of the maximal up regulation of gluconeogenesis, second only to fasting. That is not to say someone won't net benefits on high carb, low fat diet, though the caveat here is as a direct comparison to the "Standard American Diet". The government diet is the most poisonous because it's the most insulinogenic, inflammatory response possible from diet. This is detailed in a known human physiological mechanism called "The Randle Cycle" where any equivalence in energy macros, fat and carbohydrate(sugar) will cause this maximal fat storing(insulin), inflammatory effect. This is because the two energy sub-straits compete for oxidization and the body cannot hybrid the response, ergo instead throws it all into fat storage. Short term plant based dieters will net benefits if what they're transitioning off the Standard American Diet, because no diet is worse than the government recommendation. Long term though, the super majority of them have to quit the diet to eat meat again because the plants are nutrient deficient, lack any real nutrient density. This is ignoring the massive amount of pseudo science purporting certain benefits. "Anti-oxidant" claim is pseudo scientific, consumer marketing non-sense. There are also considerable problems with the concept of "slow acting carbs", where there is a sizable amount of research showing fiber does not in fact seem to have any impact on delaying rise in blood sugar, insulin response.
Bathoggywinger Your muscle’s need fuel.... Carbs are the main source of energy for Fast Twitch muscle fibers, which are the ones you use while lifting weights and such. To cut out carbs isn’t the smartest thing, you can always look for low sugar and non processed carbohydrates, but i think their information in this video is super relevant to the type of lifestyle they live. They like to lift, and look buff and without carbohydrates in the diet that won’t work as well as it could
Definitely balances hormone levels. I had a mean carb addiction, bad pms, brain fog, mood swings, low energy and my skin super dry and flaky, hair dry and brittle. 4 weeks in it all cleared up. Keto is the bees knees.
That has all the signs of kidney issues. Kidneys also affect hormone levels. I've had serious kidney problems for about a year now, ever since COVID-19 ravaged them. 😩
@@chilifps1784its actually the opposite keto diet lowers the blood sugar level . Men with higher blood sugar and higher insulin resistance have long-term lower Testosterone. If high blood sugar and insulin resistance kills Testosterone, and Keto lowers blood sugar and increases insulin sensitivity-then Keto should be good for Testosterone. So please stop getting research in your every delusional assumptions or just state the reason for your statement.
Brandon's result was pretty much what happened to me, although I went ultra strict keto for six or so months. Burned off 20kg of fat and gained a lot of muscle, but as I became more athletic I started moving into bringing more carbs in. It's a really great diet, especially given some special circumstances. The best part though is how educational going on it actually is - you become SUPER aware of all the sugar in everything! Like some kind of weird sugar-sense. Awesome vid.
Frog Machinery - I agree. I lost 40 pounds of Keto, intermittent fasting, and a little of paleo. The main thing I liked is how high fat suppresses hunger.
Thing is that it's still ketosis even if you eat 80g of carbs a day. If you are a super athlete that's shredded like these guys then 80g of carbs might not knock your body out of ketosis. if you are a couch potato then yes that is too many carbs.
Agree as well, Keto WORKS, 100% !!! I do a custom keto ( check customketo4u.com ) they create a full 8 weeks keto diet plan just for you (even with a shopping list) and I have lost more then 40 lbs. By eating food that I like!
It is called "insulin sensitivity". Which is good and bad depending on your situation. After 2 years of Keto, whenever I eat some sugary food, I can feel this immense amount of energy coming out, I literally feel like I'm on cocaine except the confidence boost.
Keto saved my life. I was diagnosed with a Severe Fatty Liver and Hemochromatosis one year ago. I was mainly vegetarian for at least 5 out of the 7 days of the week. I am also Hypothyroid and have fibromyalgia due to Epstein-Barr Virus. I ballooned up to 321lbs. My liver had caused my waist to balloon up to 60” - that’s correct - 5 feet around. I soon discovered that Keto could help my Fatty Liver. It did. I’ve lost 102lbs as of today. I’m weighing in at 219lbs. My waist has gone down 18”! I’ve kept most of my muscle mass. My ferritin levels (Hemochromatosis) were at 4580. I’m now at 1200. Lots of phlebotomy treatments involved. And I hardly worked out - just dumbbells. So, Keto has definitely helped me.
A plant based diet is the healthiest diet on this planet if DONE properly ( NO white carbs) AND proper exercise (resistance training and HIIT). Have your physician check all your interleukin inflammatory markers, SMC-Endothelin, Lp-PLAC2, TNF-Alpha, and a full cholesterol panel called CardioIQ by Quest Diagnostics. If all your inflammatory markers are at an optimal level then I would be shocked because COOKED meat of any kind contains oxidized cholesterol and fats and when ingested it alters the function of both HDL and LDL making both extremely atherogenic. Not to mention that ALL COOKED meat is highly carcinogenic! Yes, you lose weight because you cut out the processed foods, sugars, and bad carbs. It's NOT because you are eating meat! BTW, I'm an exercise physiologist with a specialty in functional medicine and have been in the medical field for nearly 3 decades and I help people reverse and prevent disease of all types. Not trying to debate, BUT this KETO craze is going to kill hundreds of thousands of people later in life and most will die of cancer IF the cardiovascular disease doesn't get them first. I have hundreds of case studies from my own patients who were all on KETO and it took years to manifest disease, but eventually it will rear it's ugly head. Eat dead food and it will kill you - eat live foods and you shall live!
Lost 49 kgs in 8 month so far doing a fairly dirty keto but also jumped onto OMAD after a month. My doc is super impressed & my meds has been cut in half & all my stats are better. Must admit it was a little surpricing how easy i found the whole thing. I think it also helped that i convinced myself that the money saved by only eating once a day, id spend on getting premium foods like pre-cooked bacon etc. I do understand if other people struggles with keeping the diet, as it is quite individual. The whole "situation" we have right now also ment i had to order everything online & get it delivered, so no accidental alluring high carb purchases there. Learning about chaffles really help filling that bread cravings go away. Also the whole thing kinda became a hobby of mine & helps the lifestyle going. One thing you have to watch out for is the "fake" commercial keto products, oh there is a lot of completely bad ones. But with a tiny bit of searching you can find the good ones, like peanut butter, almond flour, pancake mix, toppings, pickled things & even jam. its amazing to learn what you can make yourslef & not just ice scream, popsicles or mug cakes, but also real candy by just lightly browning some butter (and patience & a bit of work).
Of all the fitness channels, this is the one I watch the most consistently. Little fluff, thoroughly hilarious, and surprisingly informative. Plus, you two are just great. Keep it up!
My 4th year Keto. I feel great, I started working out after one year when I reached my target weight. My blood works normal. I do t think I would stop it, it's working for me
I went on keto for about 8 weeks. Went from 210 to 170, I lost a ton of weight fast. Maybe too fast as I started to get sick around the 8 week mark. I went back to a regular more clean diet and have been holding steady at 175.
I’ve been doing keto for over a year. I mainly started because I’ve been a T1 diabetic since the age of two. Since starting it I’ve never been healthier. I started working out again after years of neglect and putting on weight and while I wasn’t obese, I still had about 30-50 lbs I wanted to lose. I’m well on my way to doing that. If you’ve read this far I would also like to add that if you do a lot of physical activity (like the Buff Dudes do) you can actually have a larger amount of carbs than someone who doesn’t and remain in ketosis. The tip I would recommend to understanding what your limit to that is getting a blood glucose/keto monitor. It gives you the exact measurement so it will remain accurate even after the initial switch into ketosis (what the person strips are good for). I got one because it did both things I needed. Measured my blood glucose AND ketones. Cheers!
@Donald Hariot This can happen when your body is adjusting to keto or when you accidentally stop ketosis by consuming too much carbs or protein. Did you test to make sure you were in ketosis?
I started Keto about 2 months ago. I had never thought of trying intermittent fasting. This diet makes it so easy for me to fast for 16-18 hours a day without feeling like I’m starving myself.
I’ve been keto for 14 months. I love it. I fell off s but during quarantine. Not that I was eating a lot of bad carbs but just going over my target because I wasn’t watching what I was eating. I gained 17 lbs in 3 months. I am on 10 week of keto with alternate day fasting and I have lost 24 lbs. Keto and fasting are a marriage made in heaven for me.
I've been keto for four years and have found a need to increase my protein substantially. The best option I found for myself while doing keto was one day omad, the next 6 hour eating window, and adding pea protein powder.
Hi! I just started ADF on 6 July 2021. Hunger is not the problem but when I start approaching the 24hr mark I start feeling off. Did you have this experience? Any suggestions? I'm doing keto on my feed days and taking electrolytes. Is this my body just adjusting?
@@ramonawimberly8937 What do you mean by you feel off? Sluggish? Headache? If I have taken any time off of fasting for awhile or got out of sync, I will cheat a bit with a cup of bone broth and that seems to help me get through. I know it “breaks a fast” but I care more about compliance. So if it’s going to help me, then I do it.
@@ramonawimberly8937 drink lots of water and try get enough salt in your diet, on ketogenic diet your metabolism changes from being a sugar burner to a fat burner, it increases the amount of sodium that is contained in the metabolism if you dont get enough water and salt you will probably get keto flu with unpleasant side effects.
Been on it a couple times, last year I did it after Type 2 diagnosis. 2 months of Keto, and my A1C dropped me out of Type 2. But then I let one burrito cheat day seduce me to its taco sister day, and .... Back on it, which is great if you simply accept that your body 'prefers strongly' carbs, and it will pulls the levers in your brain any way it can to try to rationalize why you 'deserve' this or that carby goodness. Best thing is that you can simply acknowledge you like carbs, and get back on keto with a goal of trying again. A lot of people simply accede to reality, and have a satisfying cheat feast one a week, every 2 weeks, month, etc.
Just started Keto and it has worked for me really well for me . I tend to get bloating and I haven’t had any bloating in this diet and it’s been amazing so far .
Great video! I've been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetis a few years ago. In order to avoid injections, I first went almost zero carb for 9 weeks and then slowly added carbs back in. The no-carb phase helped me get used to a low carb diet. Now these days, when I realize I've been eating too many carbs, I just go for a no-carb week and I'm back on track.
@@megamind7132 The Buff Dudes are the perfect examples of good masculine role models: they teach physical health, confidence, goal-setting and humility, so literally every single guy on earth has every reason to learn from those guys - and girls too, of course, but we are talking about _masculine_ role models here.
So cool to watch your journey. I fasted with a friend for four days before Xmas, lost maybe 10 lbs, went vegan keto for a couple days but started gaining so went OMAD. Started at 240 lbs, now 205 lbs! At 6' 6" my target is 195 lbs. Wish me luck!
On Keto... 45 days would be halfway through the standard 90 day trial. It often takes 2~4 weeks for full homeostasis. So 60 days minimum; 90 days for a full trial. Great video 👍
Thanks to the keto diet, lose more than 70 pounds. For me it is a lifestyle. I feel very energetic and happy! If I crave bread or sticky raisin, there are many delicious recipes that can be used. This has been my lifestyle for over a year and I love it… I love Keto
Marry me so you can make me keto meals and delicious healthy keto dinners... Ill keep the house clean, especially the bathroom and i pinky promise ill put the seat down everytime i use it
I like that you guys approach a lot of these diet videos with a healthy sense of moderation. Some people who try a diet often approach it religiously with the idea that your diet has to be 110% strict with little wiggle room. I like that you guys look at what's sustainable at a lifestyle level but still get to the goal of staying and getting BUFF!
Keto is a really good diet and Brandon is correct... I had all the same things and symptoms Brandon talked about. You have to introduce some of those complex carbs into your diet every now and then. 2 years ago, I was 5'7 and 217lbs, started keto after getting some bad numbers and words (pre-diabetic) so I decided to do some research and decided to try Keto.. I restricted my carb intake to 25-30 grams of carbs a day and I lost 10lbs in the first 7 days. But then I had to go out of the country for 3 months, so I ended up combining some Keto principles with Intermittent Fasting (skipping breakfast) and by the end of that 3 months, I went down to 172 lbs. My wife was shocked when I got home. My knees, ankles and lower back didn't hurt anymore. Mind you, I was pretty fit my whole life being in the army and recently retiring. While I combined some of the basics of Keto with I.F., you should try to eat "normal" about every 2 or 3 weeks.. i.e. take a weekend off from the diet, to get other nutrients into your body. Treat yourself but just don't go overboard.
@Spencer Herren I was poking fun because he said "...fish, fatty meats, salmon..." which would insinuate salmon isn't a fish. It was in good fun. Chill.
Tofu and edamame are good protein sources...if you don't mind the estrogen-like effect that comes along for the ride. But neither of those are a good example of fat sources.
@@jasonquinn4516 too many carbs, you can eat them keto but they will be the majority of your carbohydrate intake for the day cutting out say fresh veggies nuts and fruit. at least I believe, I haven't checked the back of a tofu container in awhile
Just came back to this channel after a few years of not seeing you guys. I have to say that I am thrilled you are still producing great content! Your channel was basically solely responsible for starting me and my best friend into a lifting lifestyle our junior year of high school. Going to be a junior in college now and it's been such a big part of my life and been so positive for me with all aspects of life (especially girls). I just wanted to say thank you guys for everything! Keep up the great work.
I'm doing IF 16/8, and keto right now. Hard the first 2 weeks, but finishing week 3 and am feeling 100% better! Really amazing how sugar is the enemy. No doubt about it. It is the reason so many people are overweight. Honestly, I think there should be a warning label on food with sugar. May cause addiction, diabetes, crashes, weight gain and so much more!
Good job guys! I was diagnosed with type2 diabetes 8 months ago so for ME, keto is a no brainer. This is unlike any diet that I have ever tried. I actually LIKE the foods that I eat. The emphasis is not on calories but substance and I don’t feel like I’m trying to starve myself. I eat when I’m hungry but you know what I discovered? I’m not always hungry. I have evolved into an OMAD schedule without even trying. I’ve lost 60 pounds, my blood glucose is holding steady around 100 ( without meds ) and I feel great! In fact I’m trying to increase my calorie intake so I don’t lose weight TOO FAST. I don’t want to deal with the loose skin issue that happens when you drop a lot of weight in a short span of time.
Keto worked wonders for me, but then I stopped and lost my progress. It's definitely not sustainable for me. I end up missing carbs too much. Intermittent Fasting on the other hand has helped me a ton.
Joshua Woodard exactly the same experience here! Keto does work very well and you feel great on the whole, however it can not be sustained. IF every day and eating a big balanced meal is the way forward for me :)
KadSkirata if you can’t do it long term then you shouldn’t do it at all. The World health organization has deemed a whole food plant based diet healthy for all stages of life including pregnancy soooooo.🌱
Love you guys! You help me stay motivated! For the past two months i've been doing kind of an Atkins/Keto thing.... No bread/pasta/wheat flour/processed sugars/processed foods etc.. I have definitely lost some weight.....when my joints are in good shape again i'll start light exercise.....hopefully in a month or so. Flex!
just make sure to eat enough protein. On Keto it is more important. Eat 1g per pound of body weight. And don‘t cheat! no snacks. They make the difference
I used a similar form of this when I was lifting regularly. I also used a high protein, high fat, low carb diet. My body responded really well to that. I didn't go as low as you guys did, but went lower then what I was accustomed to. I was the leanest I've ever been and am looking forward to getting back to it.
I have been Ketogenic for the mjority of the last 4 years. The best 6 month stretch of cutting while building muscle was during one of my strictest Keto diets. I also logged the BodPod results monthly that show consistent gain of lean muscle while losing body fat. I started at 199.7 lbs 75.6% lean (151 lbs) and Fat at 24.4% (48.7) lbs. I ended 7 months later at 202.9 lbs, 81.2% Lean (164.9) and 18.8% (38.0 LBs). All together I lost 10.7 lbs of fat and gained 13.9 lbs of muscle in 7 months. I am active duty and obviously cannot take performance enhancers. I also stuck to my normal lifting routine, focusing more on higher intensity full body weigth training 5 days per week and cardio sessions 3 times per week. I still prefer Keto, but I do cycle off to keep my body adapting and increase bulk/feed cycles. I do have more power on carbs... but I get thick quick! I like the lean look.
@@TheChazaqingdude that's not bad info. Ketogenic diets arent really necessary. It's just a fad. I mean it has its uses, (pretty minimal honestly) but being in a caloric deficit and staying within your macros is literally the one answer to staying in your best condition; its literally impossible to lose weight if you're not in a cal def and this video even proves that as them doing OMAD is a form of intermittent fasting which keeps you in a caloric deficit. Now dont get me wrong, there is definitely nothing wrong with the ketogenic diet, but when people actually claim and believe that it is the *sole reason* for their weight loss, then that there my friend is what you call real "bad information".
Down 40lbs in 50 days on keto, and thats because i slacked off for about 10 days, it was hard at first but now i feel better and seeing these results keep me motivated!! Dedicated!!!
You guys 100% correct about the shopping. When I first started the entire store I saw was carbs. When you eat out, menus are 95% carbs. It's very difficult.
My experience with Ketogenic Diets: - I did a 5-shake-a-day "fast" called Optifast. It was a powder that's base was made from egg whites and had tons of vitamins & minerals in it. I lost 108 lbs in 26 weeks. But, the program wasn't so great at transitioning back to solid food so I ended up putting it all back on within 8 months. - I tried the original Atkins (read the whole book and followed it). I lost 80 lbs, kept it off for 6 years until I had some life-events that sent me spiraling into poor eating habits. My goal for my 50th birthday this year is to start back on a Keto diet to lose weight and start running and lifting weights again. I'm 315 lbs and I was feeling and doing my best at 230-250 lbs. (I'm 6'3", btw). Tanks for this episode! It's bringing back som good feelings and motivating me! Stay sexy, guys!
Started on Keto two months ago. I've lost 20lbs and felt great. Workout every other day with weights and some intense cardio. I still have some issues with diarrhea and bloating. Been taking fiber and drinking a lot of water, which I've always done. Used to take Metformin for Insulin Resistance, but now take Berberine BID and can tell I'm much more balanced. Keto has been an interesting journey thus far. The first few weeks are tough. You feel like crap, speed a lot of time in the bathroom, which I think is a combo of converting from carbs to fats and you're body is detoxing. I start each day with a large bottle of water with a fresh lemon. I know, this is citrus, but it honestly helps with detoxing and hasn't affected my ketosis. I'm not a coffee drinker but did a lot of research on fat bombs and found Keto Coffee on Amazon. It's amazing! It's like drinking coffee cocoa. I have one every morning to help me get the fat I need and it gives me some energy. I always keep some almonds or macadamia nuts on hand. I always have fresh spinach, lettuce, cheese, bacon, eggs, cream cheese and butter in my fridge. Once you get into the basics, you can discover all kinds of great foods that are Non GMO like keto peanut butter, grape jelly, pizza crust, cheese snacks, keto peanut butter cups and even keto gum. Someone recommended PUR Gum to me as I love chewing gum, especially during workouts. I get PUR off of Amazon and it tastes great and lasts a long time. I also treat myself to one Zevia daily. This has helped with my Diet Cola cravings. I'm now at the point where I really don't even want one of these. I work M, W and F. I fast until Noon on my days off and honestly, I have to force myself to eat something before I head to the gym. My appetite is about zero and I can eat a small meal and be full all day. It's really insane when you think about how you're always hungry when eating carbs. I highly recommend taking a great supplement as AG1 and Electrolites has your body detoxes and needs these. Also make sure you take Magnesium. I have found that while transitioning into KETO, I'd wake up in the am with cramps in my calves. You're body needs MAG, especially if you're working out. Also if you do weights and workout, take some creatine prior and some Protein Isolate post workout. You're body and muscles will thank you. GREAT VIDEO! I work in healthcare and do tons of Urinalysis and Drug Screens. I had to laugh at your trying to hit the ketosis strip but aiming everywhere else. It's funny because it's true. Men can aim at anything with precision in sports but not when in front of a toilet bowl. 🤣
I did keto for 8 months and my favorite part was being able to eat a huge meal and not getting hungry for hours. It also gave me a great awearness into healthy food.
@Ali N it was difficult to upkeep, especially living in a house where there was a lot of none keto food, also I was working in construction at the time with a lot of physical labor so I felt like I was craving a lot of carbs. Why do you ask?
@Ali N it was a great diet, although I found it very hard to keep on weight that being said I was extremely strict I was eating max 55 grams of carbs a day minus fiber. Now I try very hard to get at least half my calories from fat and I avoid wheat, sugar(including "natural" sugars, there's no difference), vegetable oil, white potatoes and the usual chemicals and what not. Good luck with the diet!
@Ali N yams, quinoa, chick pea pasta and other vegetable pastas and spelt bread(now I also eat white rice it's not the best but....). I'm honestly not sure how to gain weight while on the diet, I know people will go out of ketosis every 7 days or so, so that may help you.
Respect, guys! Takes dedication to do these experiments, I'm really glad I'm subscribed. I took two years off of lifting, and recently did my first workout in a long time. Time to get buff.
For someone who doesn't want to get "buff" I think that it could be sustainable for someone who needs to lose 100 lbs as opposed to someone who doesn't need to lose body fat like these guys.
But the mental clarity and brain function is just ridiculous fast thinking and reasoning. So i would suggest anyone who has a slower brain or brain disorder or ADHD even schizophrenia to do a keto diet it is the best diet to heal the brain.
I’m with you Brandon. Keto is great but very difficult to sustain. However “low carb” works for me as well. I found that < 100g worked great and I even stayed in a light ketosis. The research is very promising for low carb diets + intermittent fasting and it’s positive hormonal effects. (HGH anyone?!) Great video. You guys are hilarious.
@Bandolero 699 depends on the day. I cycle high and low calorie days. Anywhere from 70-100g. I prioritize protein in my meals, monitor carb intake and fill the rest with fat.
I was a really weird version of keto for 2 years and went from 250lbs all the way down to 175lbs (I was a stick at that point). I ate fruit, nuts, dairy, and had the occasional cheat day of french fries, tacos, or pupusas about once a month and still reaped all the benefits. It's not nearly as bad as people say. You just need to find what works for you.
Keto literally is a game-changer. My life changed dramatically thanks to keto and RUclips. I can't believe its a whole community of people interested in Keto now
I've tried keto and intermittent fasting multiple times and I always lose way too much muscle, very quickly. Some men do not have this issue because of very high testosterone levels which has a muscle sparing effect. So it doesn't work for me long term. After about 3 months I have to go back to carbs because I'm just losing too much muscle. Especially in my legs which is a big problem since I have to bicycle to work and back home every night, up some big hills. And ketones only provide steady levels of energy, not the "high octane" energy from glucose that you need for high intensity exercise. I still remember reading years ago in bodybuilding forums about a cyclical ketogenic diet of 5 days of keto than 2 days of carbs. (High glycemic carbs day one, low glycemic carbs day two.) Since it takes me about 10 days to get into keto, that would never work for me. But what I want to try now is something similar but over a larger time frame. 3 months of keto than 1 week of carbs and high protein. After about a week of carbs I start to become insulin resistant so that's really my limit. This way I can help recover lost muscle and still enjoy some of my favorite foods.
How can it take 10 days to get into Keto when it takes only 2 days to get into Lipolysis? You need to read some Dr Atkins books. And re Muscle Sparing: Did you have a lot of muscle to begin with? Maybe weight resistance training can spare your muscles during Keto? Just a thought.
The Dudes this time around seems more happy and energized especially Brandon he looks shinier and just overall mentally better!! he’s living proof on how a woman can make your life better! Stay BUFF BROS
The energy is due to the fats, and probably the loss of excess weight. Mentally is funny, it's the side of effect of the extra fat. Healthy fats improve heart and brain health. The first thing to go for people who go low/no fat is their memory.
Almond flour, hazelnut flour, coconut flour, coconut oil, butter, stevia, monkfruit, chia seeds, protein powder, flax meal, nutritional yeast, cacao powder, ginger, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon. Just mash these together in your favorite ratios and cook it up.
@@lort6022 Then why everyone loses weight on Keto and never gain weight even though fat in more caloric than carbs and protein? It's not all about calories it's about hormones. We all know how hormones are important since everyone talks about testosterone in the bro community yet other hormones like insulin, ghrelin, leptin are as important as testosterone or have at least a direct effect on other hormones but no one's talks about them.
@@soarnex In ketosis you lose some water and glycogen which results in weight loss but no actual fat loss. For fat loss you need to be in a caloric deficit.
@@stockpilegolem7241 So simplified. Of course you'll lose water on keto since glycogen holds water and makes you puffy. And to say that there is no fat loss on keto is crazy haven't you seen all the pictures and comments people about how they lose weight? Of course you can lose weigh with restricting calories but it's horrible for the body and unnatural. Just by looking at how hormones work you would understand that restricting calories is unnatural but then it depends by what you mean by restricting calories? Restricting calories by fasting or by eating smaller meals? Furthermore, on keto you will automatically eat less than on a standard or vegan diet because of how hormones works. On keto you will be more satiated thanks to the fat and protein while others diets with their high carb intake will make you crave more carbs which is a vicious cycle that in the end will make you eat more calories. Since you an advocate of caloric restriction keto should be the obvious answer.
Keto is a great diet for winter when you're not running around as much. In early man, I'm sure there were more ketogenic foods available in winter that stores easily in a cave. By spring you're probably running low on snacks so probably fasting/borderline starving. In summer you're running around more and eating fresh fruits and roots and storing them up in fall. Probably collecting nuts, drying berries, and killing game. Nobody ever talks about the seasonal diet variation though.
I've done keto off and on for several years. I like the way I feel when I'm staying dedicated, but it is difficult to stick to for months on end. These days I usually try to keep my carbs to under 100g a day, but drop back down to 20-30g for a month or 2 about twice a year. I find that to be pretty sustainable. But everyone is different.
I do my carbs 60-80g a day and in between spring & autumn, I go for 20-30g a day and in the winters I do more fat more protein. Keto for me: Staying lean having gained more endurance and strength it's frikkin nice!
Dan, serious question. How were your bowel movements during the keto diet? I have always wanted to give keto a try but don't want to be in the constipation zone. Any tips on maintaining regularity during the diet?
This is the best way to do it, actually. Or you can do a 5 - 2 split between keto and clean carbs. You can actually get back into ketosis pretty quickly with this method.
@@71DSant I've never had any issues. I'm actually more regular on keto. But everyone responds to things differently, so I'd say give it a try and see how your body responds.
I've been on Keto for about 7 months and I've lost more than 20kg's. The first couple of weeks are the hardest (especially for me because my gallbladder was out since I were a teenager), sugar withdrawal symptoms hit you hard and I felt dizzy and light headed whenever I'm hungry. I've been overweight for most of my life and have tried many weight loss diets and plans, but keto was the only way that worked and I was able to stick to. It also fixed many problems I had with congestion, heartburn and general gastric discomfort. So I would recommend it to anybody, especially if you're (like past me) the type that feel hungry all the time. It's a little bit challenging at first, you'll feel depraved and tired a bit, and your family or friends might mock you. But once you hit the breaking point, everything is easy and you'll never want to go back.
@@joversonj Oh hi Jenny, if I remember correctly it got better after the second week but it takes a while for the body to adjust to the new diet/energy source. Good luck or your journey and feel free in you have any more questions
@@kinnikuzero Hi, thanks for your reply. I've been on 20g carbs on keto for 5 weeks now, energy still hasn't increased so I might have to add a few more carbs in. Maybe 10g more just to see how I go. Do you remember how many grams of carbs you stuck to when you first started keto?
@@joversonj Hello again, I never really wrote down anything but I add things in my mind around the 30ish gram of carbs a day. It's a different experience, when I was on keto the ''energy production'' doesn't seem immediate like when you're used to a carb based diet. It's kind of a slow up slow down wave if you get me, but you never crash after a meal or after intense activity. If you can afford a ketone test, kit I recommend you get one, it's a great tool to know if what you're doing is working or not. Sorry for my grammar English isn't my first language, I'm here again if you got any more to ask!
@@kinnikuzero Thank you so much for replying , yes, I totally get what you mean about the energy thing. I feel I really have to push myself to move whereas before on a carb diet I didn't have to. I was kind of thinking I'd get a rocket fuel feeling on keto, but it's not really like that at all, but I'm going at about 30g of carbs a day instead of 20g. I am producing ketones that I see on my strips so at least that's something, but whether my body is using them for energy I dont know lol. I'm hoping when I get to the 6 week mark, I will be feeling better 😊 Also, your English is perfect!
Can you guys make a video showing some recipes used during the keto? I've been doing keto for a while but I'm getting bored of always eating the same things lol
I wouldn't recommend keto for someone who's already shredded. This is an extreme fat burning diet. Dude was already so shredded the few pounds he lost were negligible. I on the other hand had a lot more boy fat when I started. I lost a little over 25 pounds in a month and the first two weeks I wasn't really working out. One thing though is you absolutely need to have your plan set for what your diet will be post keto. Your body will cling to carbs when you reintroduce them, so make sure you have a proper diet ready to go and don't go into cheat mode for the first two days off of it, you will regret it.
You also probably lost a lot of water. Carbs help create glycogen stores in your muscles. For every gram of glycogen there are three grams of water stored in your muscles. So that’s why people rapidly lose weight on keto initially is because of losing excess water from depleting glycogen stores as your body becomes fat adapted to keto
@@nsvaskepiss69 3 grams of water for every 1 gram of glycogen. Totally possible. You should and can only really lose about 1 pound of fat a week in a healthy way otherwise you risk your health and also muscle loss which will inhibit future fat loss.
@@NosillaWilla i didnt lose muscle, but i lose 1 kg per day, NOT LYING, this is like a fucking magic trick Not everyone has the same body, do what is best for you..
My wife lost 40lbs and I lost 15 keto is a GO for those that need to lose weight and get healthy. We both eat more carbs now and like they said once you go keto you learn how much sugar and carbs are in EVERYTHING. So once you get to a weight that makes you feel good, just eat some carbs that you like and continue fasting and eating keto based meals and you will thrive! God bless everyone.
This is true, very important to have you're salts. After the first couple of days, however, you're body has already adapted and losses are coming from fat or muscle.
Andrew567 you’re body will always burn some of its own muscle when you lose weight... it is impossible to burn 100% fat. Especially in keto, if you are in a deficit and not eating carbs, the body uses proteins (stored and ingested) to create sugar.
@@TripleTapHK ...that causes the opposite affect, big brain over here. Legit just looks like hes doesnt have much subQ water retention from the lack of glucose in his diet.
@@TripleTapHK ....glucose turns into glycogen, glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver. No glucose, little glycogen storage. No glycogen, muscle looks not full. Is that more understandable? That's why bodybuilders refeed carbs a few days out and cut them out to lose all that subq water while holding onto all the glycogen.
I view keto as a short-term tool rather than a long-term lifestyle. Its great for cutting weight and helping to fix metabolic issues, but I find its too restrictive for me to stick with long-term.
Doing Keto years ago really just changed how I looked at all food. Even on a carb heavy diet I look for whole grains and read nutrition labels. Added sugar is everywhere. As for protein on keto, there's no actual ceiling, so there's no reason not to increase your protein intake. I kept my protein macro the same. Some people are scared that it'll break down into sugars but you'd need to consume massive amounts on keto for that to happen. I got by on 200-300g.
As Dr Ken Berry calls Keto/carnivore; the human diet. I'm doing it for the last almost 2 months now, down at least 10kg's. I'm doing IF 16/8 and am finding lately that yea, come dinner time (the end of the 8 hour eat window (6pm-10am fast window)), I'm not really that hungry and am lasting EASILY the 16 hour fast. The animal fat really does activate your "I'm full" center. I have just a cup of black coffee in the morning and that keeps me going. Also I do my exercise in the morning too, bit of weight and cardio. My aim is strength, (not giant muscles but just strength) and weight loss. I am still in a transition phase though and still am putting meal ideas together. It's hard as all my previous meals were rice/pasta based. I still have a bit of cake in the eat window too but am slowly cutting that back same as a sandwich with wholemeal bread, cut that down to sometimes now. Just recently cut liquid dairy and am using pure cream in my coffee in the eat window too. I cut added sugar for at least the last 18 months so that was easy. I find that with any diet transition it's easiest to not just go cold turkey and leave the options open. I feel that's why most diets fail because of strict rules. If you want a pizza or whatever, have it then go another 3 months without. That works for me as otherwise you end up binging.
Dr Sten Ekberg pointed out in a video I just watched that Keto is really for ppl that are insulin resistant, Diabetic and when combined with IF is a great weight loss tool. Seems a lot of ppl miss out on these facts.
He didn’t say ‘only’ for people who are IR. once you are IS and no longer in danger of the risks, maintaining insulin sensitivity and generally improving overall health seems to be Dr Steen’s motivation for keto and IF. Autophagy features heavily in his goals, but that is more related to easier fasting when in ketosis.
So you two got trough an a tiny bit elongated Atkins first phase and progressed to reintroduction of healthy carb choices/maintenence... Sounds you re on track. Good. Thanks for the video. 🙋🏻♀️

Keto crowd: Carbs are bad.
Vegan crowd: Meat is bad
Carnivore crowd: Vegetables are bad
High carb/low fat crowd: Fat is bad
Avacado and Greens lol
Saying carbs and vegetables are bad is simply ignoring science...

3 Card Monty how much cardio were you doing in a week?

Keto with intermittion fasting, next level, rice was my weakness.

I've been Keto and OMAD for over two years now. My health has improved radically as a result.
This is pretty informational. Thanks for experiencing the keto diet for us and letting us know what it's like.
wtf are you doing here
I'm doing IF 16/8, and keto right now.

I don’t want to deal with the loose skin issue that happens when you drop a lot of weight in a short span of time.
well done dudes ✅ the “we’re having a keto” skit was hilarious 😂
yeah it was. what song did you use for that bit?
Keto worked wonders for me, but then I stopped and lost my progress. It's definitely not sustainable for me. I end up missing carbs too much. Intermittent Fasting on the other hand has helped me a ton.
Joshua Woodard exactly the same experience here! Keto does work very well and you feel great on the whole, however it can not be sustained. IF every day and eating a big balanced meal is the way forward for me :)
Yeah same.
Not to mention the increase risk of sudden death associated with Keto 🤷🏼♂️

And don‘t cheat! no snacks. They make the difference
About to start a 45 day keto diet myself. Not planning on long term, but using as a cut. This video was helpful. Thanks, dudes.
I used a similar form of this when I was lifting regularly. I also used a high protein, high fat, low carb diet. My body responded really well to that. @@karimrahim9205 yes^^^^^^
Love you guys! I lost 70 pounds doing keto + intermittent fasting...so obviously, I'm a believer.

How long did it take?
You lost 70lbs by being in a calorie deficit, keto and fasting did nothing magic for you.
@@DrewLSsix You are brainwashed by years of bad information. But thanks for the unsolicited advice.

My experience with Ketogenic Diets:
- I did a 5-shake-a-day "fast" called Optifast.
I still have some issues with
diarrhea and bloating. Been taking fiber and drinking a lot of water, which I've always done.
Used to take Metformin for Insulin Resistance, but now take Berberine BID and can tell I'm much more balanced. Keto has been an interesting journey thus far.
The first few weeks are tough. You feel like crap, speed a lot of time in the bathroom, which I think is a combo of converting from carbs to fats and you're
body is detoxing.
I have one
every morning to help me get the fat I need and it gives me some energy.
I always keep some almonds or macadamia nuts on hand. I always have fresh spinach, lettuce, cheese, bacon, eggs, cream cheese and butter in my fridge.
Once you get into the basics, you can discover all kinds of great foods that are Non GMO like keto peanut butter, grape jelly, pizza crust, cheese snacks,
keto peanut butter cups and even keto gum. Someone recommended PUR Gum to me as I love chewing gum, especially during workouts. I get PUR
off of Amazon and it tastes great and lasts a long time. I also treat myself to one Zevia daily. This has helped with my Diet Cola cravings. I'm now at the
point where I really don't even want one of these.
I work M, W and F. I fast until Noon on my days off and honestly, I have to force myself to eat something before I head to the gym. My appetite is about
zero and I can eat a small meal and be full all day.

Not really keto is really starting to be that lifestyle changer.
For someone who doesn't want to get "buff" I think that it could be sustainable for someone who needs to lose 100 lbs as opposed to someone who doesn't need to lose body fat like these guys.
I'm sure it would work but someone who is that overweight wouldn't need to do a diet that is so extreme.

(HGH anyone?!)

Amazing work guys. Good old buff dudes. I enjoyed the video and the review, thanks!
What about carnivore diet where its super high protein and medium fat, 0 carbs. Would that have the same muscle loss effect?
i think u need to watch Dr. Bergs videos he explains all these and how to counter them
How can it take 10 days to get into Keto when it takes only 2 days to get into Lipolysis? You need to read some Dr Atkins books. And re Muscle Sparing: Did you have a lot of muscle to begin with? Maybe weight resistance training can spare your muscles during Keto? Just a thought.
Been on keto for 4 months now and lost about 30lbs. It's helped me curb my cravings and I'm more focused.
The Dudes this time around seems more happy and energized especially Brandon he looks shinier and just overall mentally better!! he’s living proof on how a woman can make your life better! Stay BUFF BROS
Lol yea keep thinking that.
The energy is due to the fats, and probably the loss of excess weight. Mentally is funny, it's the side of effect of the extra fat. Healthy fats improve heart and brain health. The first thing to go for people who go low/no fat is their memory.

@@NosillaWilla but not 25lbs of water tho 😳

“Honey, it’s a KETO” 💀💀😭
Most of the weight in the beginning is water weight, on keto, you don't retain as much water. So water and electrolytes are a must.
This.
This is where "keto flu" comes from, not enough sodium.
This is true, very important to have you're salts. After the first couple of days, however, you're body has already adapted and losses are coming from fat or muscle.
mikeyd7733 why would your body ever resort to muscle instead of fat which is specifically for rainy days where carbs aren’t present?
Andrew567 you’re body will always burn some of its own muscle when you lose weight... it is impossible to burn 100% fat. Especially in keto, if you are in a deficit and not eating carbs, the body uses proteins (stored and ingested) to create sugar.
mikeyd7733 That's only if you're consuming excess protein will it covert to sugar.
@10:16 day 1 / day 45 comparison isn't fair--he's holding dumbells on day 45, so is flexed.

Keto makes you look fuller anyways. You shed a bunch of water weight.
@@TripleTapHK ...that causes the opposite affect, big brain over here. Legit just looks like hes doesnt have much subQ water retention from the lack of glucose in his diet.
@@davidwitt3547 Which makes your muscles look fuller.......
“We’re having a Keto” 🤣
Doing Keto years ago really just changed how I looked at all food. Even on a carb heavy diet I look for whole grains and read nutrition labels. Added sugar is everywhere. As for protein on keto, there's no actual ceiling, so there's no reason not to increase your protein intake. I kept my protein macro the same. Some people are scared that it'll break down into sugars but you'd need to consume massive amounts on keto for that to happen. I got by on 200-300g.
Connor Lipke wait what were your macros on Keto ?
Guys your videos are funny and educational 😄 I have been following you for a couple of years now and you guys just keep getting better and better!
Ha! Loved this vid more than I should.
Appreciate the work u put into this.
This kind of experience/challange content is great
