      @@americankid7782that’s wrong. You sign in your employee contract that it can be paid out as compensation time or time off. It depends on your companies budget. Companies aren’t required to pay out over time they can give you time off work or comp time if they want to instead.

      They talk shit, but don't do shit. Case in point a driver we have that they cater too. What would take 6 hours to do he makes last all day so that he gets his 12 hours, and even then still brings shit back. Guy brags about making a day of it and getting his hours, even rejects orders in his handheld before he pulls off the dock and picks and chooses what stops he wants to hit, which ones he doesn't. Guy basically gets 60+ hours everyday to fuck off.

      I'm not management but oversee a couple people. If I have a guy disappear because it's end of shift when we were in the middle of a problem that more hands could have gotten everyone home faster, yeah I'll look down on that. But pointing out it's almost end of shift when I'm talking about things to do or managing their own tasks so they can leave on time without starting work they can't finish...well that's just healthy boundaries have a good evening see you tomorrow.

      And usually in construction you shift ends at 3 or 4. A lot of sites get locked up for the night at 5 on the dot so you better be packed up and done by then or you might not be able to drive out.

      And let's face it if you work for that kind of company that would ask you to falsify your time card , well you should probably stop working for them.
      Now I have worked for places that have said we're not going to pay overtime but that just means you start packing up your stuff 20 minutes before your shift ends so you can be out of there and not incur any overtime that's different

    I always tell my guys that after a certain time they are free to leave at any point but are more than welcome to stay as long as they want and get paid for all the overtime they want with no limits as long as there is work to be done.

      What kind of crack are you smoking? Overtime and 10-12 hour shifts are very common in the US. Unpaid overtime and double time is illegal in the US. Massive fines from the IRS, labor board, and tons of back pay plus interest to the effected parties.

    Retired from the Army, where you didn't go home until everything was done and cleaned and accounted for. Went to work for the Federal Government, 1st day on the job at quitting time, I stopped working and got my butt chewed for not quitting 15 minutes early so everyone was punched out by the end of shift. Should of retired and transferred a long time ago.

    Young American here; my first job was for a highly exploitative FedEx warehouse where the supervisors pressured you into overtime which went unpaid.
    My attitude ever since has been; arrive and punch in on the dot, put in 100%, and punch out on the dot. I have left projects unfinished when the clock ticked past time, and I feel zero shame for it. A schedule is an agreement and a contract; I will be there and working for the times listed, no more, no less. If the company wants me to work more, to alter the contract, they can ask me, but to force it or expect it is an abuse of power.

      @@robertw1800 That's factory work. Where in America are you still finding factories? I work at an engineering firm. There is no second shift. If you don't finish and you have a deadline, you are the second shift, and the third shift if need be. Recently I did a 50 hour week, followed by a 70 hour week followed by an 85 hour week. I was the only person assigned but for those 3 weeks I lead a team of 5 just to keep a project from being more than 1 week late. We all put in 12 hour days minimum. This is what happens when half your team goes on vacation right before a due date.

    A huge culture shock to me, military, is when you work with National Guard
    Military active duty: 12 hour duty day, work till the last minute, 7am to 7pm
    National Guard: the state doesn't pay use after 5, leaves at 2pm

      Try 16 hrs a day.... two days of mandatory overtime per week. Once I made sergeant I don't remember what a 8hr work day was. And I was happy because now I'm 44 and retired!!!

      When I worked in a tank bay a sprocket broke loose 25ft up at the top of the roll-up door as a guy was raising the door and this 13lb gear hits him on the hard-hat and it gets deflected into his collar bone. No serious injury. Lucky guy.

    Me who gets paid a day rate plus my bonuses and doesn't have a lunch for those 6 to 12 hours. I eat on the road or stop for food, then go back to driving and unloading. Some of us grind.
    Yes, I've worked plenty of trades as well. Terrible pay with forced hours and the lack of benefits is why I do not anymore.
