    Thank you for your hidden gems! Exactly what I was looking for. I've got numerous guide books which basically tell me the same things over & over. Can't wait to see your beautiful city next May. Bring on more videos :)

    Excellent selection. I used to live behind Circus Lane in Stockbridge. I used to get a real kick just wandering around the area enjoying its beauty. I never took it for granted.

    Really enjoyed that. The various Mews terraces at the Easter Road end of Royal Terrace are really lovely - a lot like Circus Lane.

      I discovered the Royal Terrace mews in lockdown when the place seemed deserted. Magical part of town!

    I love the closes...I explored them a little while some of the family went souvenir shopping. I found a little pub that I took a few family members for lunch, and we all loved it. Halfway House was a tiny little place, but wow it was amazing.

    Enjoyed your videos a lot.
    I was born and raised in Edinburgh. At least until my Three Years in the British Army. Mostly spent in Malta.
    Where I was spoiled by all that sunshine and the Mediterranean Sea.
    I only stayed three years, after leaving the Army
    Then Emigrated to a much warmer climate. Los Angeles, California.
    But I never lost my love for my old City. Seeing it now, takes my breath away. Still the same, but oh, what changes. But it’s been 55 years, so not unexpected. But I love the changes and atmosphere there now.
    So thanks for the trip down memory lane. 🙂

    The ceiling at 1:31 reminds me so much of the Ravenclaw Tower common room from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. "The Ravenclaw common room is one of the airiest rooms at Hogwarts. It is a wide, circular room with arched windows hung with blue and bronze silks and a midnight blue carpet covered in stars, which is reflected onto the domed ceiling". Will definitely have to see this when I'm in Edinburgh!

    The murals in the Portrait gallery are by William Hole who also did the murals in the City Chambers.. another hidden gem! I would also add the Parliament Hall behind St Giles and the Anatomy theatre in the Medical School. Always watch for Open Doors Day in Edinburgh (usually in September) when many amazing buildings are open to the public...

    Cool, was born in Edinburgh and lived most of my life in and around it, and I never knew you could get into the RBS bank building! Cheers for that! And agree with all the others too though would have included Botanics but yeah, I s'pose not exactly hidden.....

    Very nice! I was in Edinburgh in the early 70s, but I was a young man then, and wasn`t really interested in those "gems". It would be nice to see those in person. When I was there, I visited Edinburgh Castle and was amazed to see the life-sized portraits. These were pictures I had seen in my history books.

    You asked for hidden Gems, Edinburgh's most hidden village is at Swanston, near Fairmilehead. After your walk, which you will definitely enjoy, try the Brasserie by the car park for some great food (or drinks) and some of the best views over the city.

    You are so very right. The Water of Leith Walkway ist really a beautiful place. Been there yesterday and enjoyed it a lot! Sad though, that the part between Dean Bank and Dean Village is partly blocked due to landslide. Hope they fix that, though the gate does not give me high hopes...
    Keep up to good work! Was really an inspiration for me!

    Hidden gems.... Loved my visit to Dean Village... If you turn right by the bridge in Dean Village and follow the river for about a few hundred yards you come to the arches of Dean Bridge and there is a low wall there with a beautiful view looking back up the river.

    • @alanco608
      @alanco608 4 года назад

      My second hidden gem would be The Miss Jean Brodie Steps... So many people walk past them heading up towards the castle via Johnstone Terrace that they miss them.. The view of the castle from the top is worth the climb unless you come via The Vennel.

    • @alanco608
      @alanco608 4 года назад

      My third hidden gem is Ramsey Gardens... Just below the Castle, opposite the Witchery you go down Ramsey Lane and its on the left.. Hanging baskets, flower pots there's even black iron stairs too...

    The ceiling inside the Dean well is something to behold...And in the centre of the floor sitting on a pedestal, a Grecian-vase...That's if it's not been nicked by some... CW.

    Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world but one thing most of the buildings lack is colour. Too much white and grey especially when compared to Scandinavia and other parts of Europe.

  • @lg2813

    None of these are “hidden” gems they are all literally within 10 minutes of the city centre, maybe explore beyond the city centre for “hidden” gems such as places like Leith, Newhaven, Granton, Muirhouse in the North or places in the South such as Inch or Gilmerton where real folk from Edinburgh stay
