I’ve been watching this game for a couple months. We need a good Indiana Jones style game (there are very few), and this is one of only two games I have on my buy list for this year. The other is beyond the sun.
Sunniva: "I tend to like this game better and better, mostly because I'm winning." 🤣 Johannes: "...Or play with people who don't get like 86 points" 😂 Love it.. great job!.
I typed in the title of the game to see what it is like to play. This video was the top suggestion. I really liked watching you play it. Subscribed. I like that there is more than a single camera on the board, I like the cuts back and forth between something happening on the board and seeing the players themselves. And of course nothing replaces personality, and I really like yours. Point is I'm glad I found this channel. Thanks.
Hey Richard! Thank you for taking the time to make this comment! :D We are so happy to have you here, and very happy that you like the content! We'll work hard to make sure there is more content for you to like in the future :D
Hey Stacy :D Thank you for the very kind words, that makes me truly happy to hear! If you meet us at a con (when we can go back to those) let's play a game together :D
Hello, I'm from Brazil, unfortunately this game hasn't arrived here yet, but I hope it will arrive soon. I really enjoyed the game and you, congratulations !!
@@BoardGamingRamblings Yes! We will be talking about it tomorrow over on our twitch channel. So I am trying to learn more about it. I already have it in my shelf ;-)
@@BoardGamingRamblings We stream every day on 22.00 Central European Time on twitch.tv/Luzapalooza. Yes. Every day. So this one is up on saturday. Excited for it!
Your format is my favorite style. Playthroughs are my favorite thing to watch, but reviews are just ok to me. So a full playthrough with your thoughts at the end is fantastic. Plus you two are so fun to watch! Assorted thoughts from this video: Love the singing Papyyyyyrus! (Tehkenu was the first time I saw you two so I’m always happy to hear that!) Was that a High School Musical reference I heard? (Bop bop to the top) Scripture may have put Lovecraft to sleep but I love it and live by it! 📖 😉 Thanks for all your amazing content! I watch it all and look forward to it!
Hey Josh 😁 Thank you so much for these kind words! They mean more than you can imagine! Glad to hear you like the format! It makes sense for us, and we’ll probably keep it like this! Sadly no HSM reference from me (never seen it) 😳 See you at the next video 🤩
Looks beautifull and fun. Intrested in buying now. In round five you took an action to get an arrowhead. After that you took back your action, but kept the arrowhead. Which allowed you to defeat that last guardian. ;-)
Great video! How would you compare it with another thematic deck builder like Clank for example? I'm also curious to know how it works at higher player counts... I felt that there was hardly any typical worker placement blocking in that 2P game ("argh you took my spot, where am I gonna go now?!"), so I wonder if that would happen more at higher player counts (4P in particular). Not that I can really play at those higher player counts during those COVID days anyways but you know, for the future! :-)
It was so stupid of us to forget to talk about player count! We have played every player count (except 1) and I like it at all of them! I do think I like 3/4 more, as there are more people to buy cards, and the ones you don’t want might be taken by others more often. It does not feel like a typical deckbuilder or a typical worker placement game. The deckbuilding is very slow, so nothing like Clank, where it’s a «normal» deckbuilder with a board. Here, the deck building is just one piece of a bigger puzzle. Also, the blocking is there, but since everyone just have 2 workers, it’s to a less degree than with a more traditional WP game. When I need compasses, and you take them, it can be hard to get them. It’s like that, but not game changing it feels like. Like everything in this game, the timing is very important! Hope that helps! :D
@@BoardGamingRamblings Thanks for the long response! I just watched a long playthrough of it at 4P count yesterday on another channel and it felt exactly like you said, timing is everything. The game feels opportunistic at times, for example after you take a card a great new card is revealed and the next opponent jumps on it, but that's part of the fun, it makes the game change during a round so it's less rigid, and it's exciting to see new "treasures" revealed! That aspect is similar to Clank i think... What i like about it is that you can have good combos (like "buy a card and immediately take it from under your deck with a special card"), but they are "light" combos: they can't make your turns super long like in Dominion for example, so it's never a pain for your opponents to wait for your turn to finish! I love the resource management aspect and the ability to extend turns with fast cards and assistants. Great game, and i absolutely loooove the artwork... There's even a sense of adventure when a monster is revealed, I love that, another way to make things change during a round and reinforce the feeling that we're in an expedition and unexpected things happen, it's almost like you open a door in a dungeon crawler and you discover the beast that waits for you in the next room, brilliant!
After watching this game, I get a feel similar to Mage Knight. The deck building seems slower and more deliberate than the typical deck builder. I also see a Thunderstone Quest vibe. Neither of these are negative comparisons, as I like both games. I have already committed to Beyond the Sun, so it will probably be.a while before I can consider this game seriously, though I will check out a solo playthrough on another review.
It's a year later, but the solo game is killer. There's a whole free print&play solo campaign, and the expansion gives variable player powers to turn it into a nice, crunchy-but-accessible, solidly middle-weight Euro.
Also are 1:08:51 Johannes went to campsite that provided an arrowhead (which he took), and then decided to retract that placement and go to the level 2 site that provided an arrowhead and gem. He never returned the arrowhead from his first move an ended up with 3 arrowheads and should only have had 2. The extra arrowhead allowed him to overcome the guardian for 5 points. So unfortunately Johannes., you actually would have only scored 60! Sorry for the bad news 😉😢
It’s a very different game, besides the theme! Quest for El Dorado (I have only played once, and might misremember something) is more of a mix between a race and a deck-builder. It’s also a lot lighter than this. Lost Ruins of Arnak is a medium euro with a lot more moving parts. I guess if you love the theme of El Dorado, and you’d be up to playing something some steps more complicated, it might work, but they are not alike :) Hope that helps!
Hey Jacky! Welcome :D We are glad to have you here! I just speak, and if I mispronounce a word here or there, I just don't care! I've always done that, and I find that it makes it easier to speak a foreign language for me!
Haha, those things happen from time to time in playthroughs! Not the first time we did a mistake, and it won’t be the last! It’s easy to forget these things when you are focused on filming and doing rules right! Good catch 🥳 Hope you liked the video!
Hey Thiva! Thank you for the feedback! I personally don’t feel like we talk more over each other than in any «normal» situation like this. Without a script (which would be impossible in a playthrough) I don’t think it’s a chance to never interrupt, but we can probably always be better, so thank you for the feedback!
@@BoardGamingRamblings Haha noice! I did get to play it a couple times and really like the discovery feeling when exploring new dig sites. I like how your turns get more and more complex as you add cards. Took a little longer than I would have liked but I think it was just the first time playing and having new people each time I played.

"This is sad face" - LOL nice job you two!
Haha, thank you :D Yeah, I am often sad face when playing...I’m not into winning!
Thanks for the review. Really looking forward to this one. Good job as always!

Funny you should ask, hehe! We just filmed a review for that, which will be up next week if I remember our schedule correctly! :)
At 10:20 Sunniva placed her worker to gain an arrowhead but didn't play a card for movement. 😉😄
